It is related, I have not played X-Com yet. I have it for PS2, just haven't had a chance.

    IIRC, Xenonauts is a prequel.

Well apparently Assassins Creed Unity runs like absolute garbage even on super high end hardware. There are people with i7's and SLI'd GTX 980's who can't run it on max at 60fps at 1080p which is ridiculous. Assassins Creed IV ran fine for me on my i5 4440 and GTX 760 OC, but after reading the horror stories about ACU I decided to skip it. My PC is last years high end hardware, if a video game can even run on a console such as the Xbox One then my PC should be able to play it much better. I realize that Xbox and PS4 use what is considered to be a mix of medium and low PC settings with a few high textures turned on at different times and they run at 30fps. But even so, if a video game can run on medium/low settings at 30fps on 5 year old Xbox One hardware then it should def be able to run at high settings at 60fps with last years high end PC hardware. Any game that doesn't run on the PC and runs on the consoles is simply poorly optimized.

Far Cry 3 ran just fine on my system with max settings at around 50-55fps. FC4 uses the same engine so I think it will be fine I just wanted to confirm after Ubisoft gave PC gamers the middle finger with AC Unity last month.

Xenonauts is a sort of fan made reimagining of the original and maintains a lot of the originals mechanisms while removing some others as well. First and foremost was the time unit system which I prefer to XCOM's two action system. It was being worked on before Firaxis' XCOM Enemy Unknown was announced but as they were a small team they finished after.

I found Xenonauts to be a much more enjoyable experience to the AAA X-COM remake from Firaxis.

That's what I was referring to "Old School" X-COM from back in the 90s....though there's a new version "X-COM Enemy Unknown" that captures a bit of the feel of the old Microprose game.

There's also "The Bureau".another new version set in the 1960s that went from first person shooter to tactical/3rd PS with basically a "no lose" end-game.

Playing and enjoying Alien Isolation. Fun and scary so far right up there with Amnesia and Outlast. My only complaint is that they script the alien to always be within a certain range of you. After awhile this tends to lessen the fear factor. I wish they would have it disappear entirely once in awhile only to pop in out of nowhere after you have relaxed and let your guard down.

Xenonuats is just mind blowing. My PC crashed when it updated to Win 8.1, so I lost my saved game!

Currently playing Hearts of Iron 3, my god, so epic.

You guys have got to try Prison Architect. It's a "God game" like Sim City or Roller Coaster Tycoon where you build an operate a prison. It's FUN. You manage everything from the power grid to the water system and building cells and feeding the prisoners. The culture of the prison changes with different inmates and higher threat inmates will target and kill other ones etc.

It's like 6 bucks on Steam. Warning it is HIGHLY addictive and you will literally accidentally spend a huge chunk of your day playing it at a time and forget about other things.

Check it out, if you like micromanaging games then you will love it.

    The Fall.

Not seen almost anyone talk about it. It has a cult following on Steam that gives it funding, otherwise it would never have been made because no one knows it exists. It's part 1 of a trilogy of sidescrolling adventure games and has one of the best narratives I've seen for a while (how is it, for example, Bioware has all the cash EA can throw at it but they can't hire writers that can do better than an indie game?) focusing on the thought processes of AIs. The premise is a literal Fall through an atmosphere of a planet which you survive thanks to your awesomely resilient combat spacesuit. The person wearing the suit is rendered comatose from the impact and the suit's AI, A.R.I.D., is given control over the suit's mobility so it can go find medical treatment for its wearer. The original mission of the suit's wearer is unknown, but you find yourself on a planet with other AIs, androids, and hostile wildlife. The player, as ARID has to find their way through the environment, not just trying to save the human wearer of the suit but to find out why you're here and what exactly is going on on this planet.

They must have blown all their money on voice actors, writers and graphic designers instead of buying a 3D engine license, and that's absolutely fine with me. It's 2D, sure, but it has a wonderfully grimdark, hostile, mysterious design to it that keeps everything shrouded in dark and haze and works to create a wonderful atmosphere. As I already stated it has a better narrative and thematic commentary than most games with multi-million dollar budgets, the dialogue itself is well written (and perfectly captures the fact that those speaking are not human) and most surprisingly, acted. Most indie games don't bother with voiceacting because it's better to have none than buy discount, (*)(*)(*)(*)ty voice actors and make all the dialogue painful to listen to. Here, not only is it voiced but it's not half bad either, which is a pleasant surprise.

Only 11 bucks, I heartily recommend for those who like adventure games.

My roommate just got us both the game and subscriptions for Final Fantasy 14. Most MMOs that I've played have been pretty similar but this one is actually a little more involved in my opinion. First Final Fantasy game I've had fun with in years too although it still doesn't rank with the classics. But I've been enjoying it in my free time.

World of Tanks is a massively multiplayer online game, fully dedicated to the armored vehicles the middle of XX century. Players have the opportunity shoulder to shoulder to fight with fans of steel giants from all over the world, defending their claims to world domination tank.

Advanced pumping system and development will allow you to experience any of the cars in the game. Do you like to wear down the opponent on nimble light tanks, make violent outbursts on the universal medium, incinerate enemies gigantic "strands" or you wish to become a first class sniper, driving long-range artillery, machine of any class can be a truly deadly weapon in the hands of a real professional.

However, even the strongest players will not be able to succeed alone. In World of Tanks is all about team, and victory is achieved through well-coordinated work of a team where each player plays their own role.

    Darkest Dungeon.

It's an early access game on Steam, with kind of Lovecraft meets fantasy feel to it. Basically, you are playing as a guy whose rich ancestor found out about a place within his holdings that promised great riches and then he tried to excavate it. There were some warning signs along the way that messing with this place wasn't a great idea, but he was greedy and pressed on, no matter the cost in human lives. And so, as these stories, go, the guy cracked Pandora's Box, unleashed unholy evil onto the land. After many years he went crazy, gave up trying to save the land, put you in his will, and shot himself.

So now you come to town with a couple of mercenaries and you send out letters for more mercs to come to town.

There are no save files to reload. Everything you do, all the time, is saved. If your mercs die, they die. If they get too stressed out, they go insane. They can get some pretty devastating lasting effects from their actions and from the injuries they sustain. You don't get your hands dirty, as you're just coordinating.

So what's interesting to me is that it's perfectly valid as a playstyle to be a total jerk and send them off with no torches, no food, and see how far they get in any given dungeon, then just have the last survivor retreat with whatever they've gained from the trip, and then that guy is probably too badly beaten up and insane to keep, so you can fire him. Unfortunately, since this is a roleplaying game, that would make me feel like a complete jerk, so I don't do that. :) I gear up my guys with the best possible armor and weapons and try to give them treatment for any negative conditions they might acquire.

In so doing, I'm taking a risk though, because everything is very, very expensive, and if the merc dies, you lose all of their gear, all of their skill training, all of the time and money you sunk into them.

I really like the game design.

hire a team of adventurers to go clear out your ancestral holdings; you

Picked up a GTX 720i graphics card, and I am having a blast with DCS: SU-25T. Waiting for the other modules to go on sale...

    Imagine, a consistent frame rate.

Playing Dying Light. Lots of fun and much more polished than Dead Island. I have put it on temp hold though currently as they are releasing a Hardcore Mode this month and want to play the second part of the game that way. Currently sitting at 40% completion. In normal mode once you get to level 14 the game gets easy peasy.

I played through Dying Light with my brother, it was a ton of fun. I hope you have someone to play co-op with, it's much better that way.

Playing it through single player first and I kind of have it on hold now around 40% till the new hardcore mode comes out. Coop games are fun but they also tend to remove any tension from the atmosphere and playing the game at night (in game night) is tons of fun. :)

Lately mostly Eve Online, was getting psyched for GTA 5 but it got delayed again. Played a few hours of Darkest Dungeon, pretty fun so far but it's a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) to manage your stress. Also thinking of reinstalling Kerbal Space Program now that they have offically gone to release and I have to worry less about all my mods breaking from an update.
