There is no evidence to the contrary; Is there any evidence that the cop would have used such force if it did not appear the victim was using a gun? Evidence needs to be viewed from both angles. It could be that this cop has a history of aggression, which would certainly add as evidence against the weaver.

Then we have to agree that we must take all potential steps to avoid such situations, and trust such steps (body cams not interfered with, trust a person who has been given a position of power).

Who, me? Heh, not at all; I work in IT. I spend half my time in the US, and other times around the world (actually I usually only have time for PF when I'm out of the US!).

I'm actually in the UK now. And thank you for what I would regard as a compliment. I try to be level headed where possible ;)

If the police chief stated that the guy used the weaver to hold a hose attachment - and it makes no sense to use a double handed grip when one is perfectly adequate, then he is obligated to provide evidence in support of that. Simply stating it doesn't impress a suspicious public. Nor should it.

I think the elephant in the room is that trust has been lost, and will not be returning very soon unless or until cops guilty of abuse of power (and worse) pay the same penalty that ordinary citizens pay for similar offences -- arrest and trial and if convicted a suitable sentence. Anything else falls short of the maxim that the law is for all and not just for some.
I hope you're enjoying the weather here. Cool or what?

Maybe it was the other poster who is a cop because he seems to have seen the cops body cam and reported on it, and says the guy grabbed for the officers holstered pistol. I think it was he (?) who also said the guy with the deadly hose attachment definitely used the weaver stance. All I want is evidence to support those assertions.

I would assume that would be impossible, unless there is some CCTV (dash cam) available. I would assume nothing is available - which is a shame for both parties involved.

Well, I haven't lost trust; perhaps I am in the minority. I think there are a lot who hold onto the small reports and try to apply it to all. The Ferguson issue seems to be very contentious for example - this huge teenager certainly was being threatening by all accounts, but the reports were generally "unarmed kid shot dead" which pulls at heartstrings and sets a first impression.

A bit chilly, compared to my usual climate. Talking of which, the Sharpstown (not where I live, btw) area is an interesting twist on the cop debate.

Evidence is perfect, naturally, but isn't always available. Innocent until proven guilty applies to both sides of the law when they are scrutinized. Although this evidence would "clear" the cop, I'm not sure that lack of it "convicts" him. That's my sticking point. Is there enough of a justified loss of trust for all cops to assume this cop was "bad"? How does one measure the loss of trust, and how widespread it should be? It's a difficult issue.

Actually, I think there is a growing lack of trust in cops and that is something that needs to be addressed.

Witness my distrust of the police chief and his assertion that the hose holder used the weaver stance. Having used a very similar attachment myself, I can say that it suits one-handed use - not a two handed, hands held out in front posture. That's why I find it suspicious and why I remain unconvinced that the chief was telling the whole truth.

With far more people using mobile (cell) phone cameras to film police in action, many more of these suspect cases are coming to light.
