Not all but certainly some.. The issue came into my consciousness about 60 years ago when my parents were on the front page of the Dailey Star (Lebanon) and they wrote my father's name and said with his queen consort...

Queen consort had such a nice ring like Consort Battleship.. a badge of honor for both husband and wife.

    Sweet!

Queen consort has always sounded to me a bit like madonna/whore, and I guess in this context it sort of is. No disrespect to your mother, of course. Meanwhile, is it too much to ask how it is that your dear old dad was lauded thusly? Are we in the presence of sub-royalty?

    you're very lucky :)

mine are fair to middling :p. absolute gems in certain respects, not so much in other respects. but given they're 80, and both fit and well and independent, one can't complain overmuch!

    - - - Updated - - -

Which has me thinking ... what might the offspring of Mr & Mrs Yaz (the legitimate offspring, not the product of Yaz's fling) say about their folks?

My sibs and I are fortunate indeed. They can be hard work sometimes, but I'll wager less work than Mr & Mrs Yaz :p

Rather speculative. It's just as likely they were hidden because of rampaging hoardes of barbarians from the east were raping their way across holy land

you mean like how americans wont even let a woman rule them in times of peace? or you mean that a nation with war on their doorstep finds it hard to elevate women to high ranking powerful positions?

Sounds like someone is using Sumerian mythology to support their claim. I wonder by the way what the hell does nearly dying have to do with actual death?

me too. since they're two entirely different states. ie, one is alive, the other is dead. and what measure is used to decide something qualifies as near death? if you almost get hit by a bus, is that a near death state? I'll wager it isn't, by the NDE standard. it won't qualify because it doesn't produce the right chemicals for hallucination :p

an elderly relative by marriage (deceased) felt that women invited rape via inappropriate clothing. it was never the man's fault. apart from this being a most objectionable and primitive example of sexism, I don't think it ever occurred to him that this was as good as saying men are as feeble and irresponsible as 6 year olds, and that women have absolute control over them. since he believed in male superiority in all areas, the realisation might have given him a very uncomfortable pause :p

We Christians tend to consider Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus to be the incarnation of The Word - Logos..... one of the members of the Elohim.....one of the seven spirits of G-d.

It is interesting that Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus stated that the Father.... The Ancient of Days was so emotional and sentimental that the number of hairs on the head of the disciples was numbered..... and it was impossible for a sparrow to fall - die... without that sparrow being noticed by YHWH!

    http://www.politicalforum.com/relig...most-emotional-being-universe-multiverse.html

Could God the Father be the most emotional being in the universe/ multiverse?

Which type of project will you tend to get more involve in?

A job that you invested fifty hours of your time in over one month or a labour of love where you exerted a great deal of effort for 50,000 hours over forty years?

I have read a powerful case that due to the fact that church...… was in the home of the members of the Messianic Jewish and Messianic Gentile community during the first and second century..... that women came to a place of major power in the first and second century Christian movement.

The guys got together ....... talked it over.... and decided to move church out of the homes of members into a separate building...… and set up a celibate priesthood in order to wrestle the power away from the ladies!

If my wife doesn't like somebody.......... what is the probability that they would be encouraged to visit our home each Sabbath?

    You got it.....close to zero!

That would form an apt analogy -- were religion a science.

If someone is pronounced dead on Wednesday and you see them walking around on Friday the first thing that comes to your mind is that the diagnosis was wrong, not that they died and came back to life. In our heart of hearts we all know there is no coming back, this is why we mourn, the rest is just wish-thinking.

I personally knew virtually nothing about astrology or its possible relevance to each of us until I read chapter 5 of Christian Andreasons' NDE account.

Crank, crank, crank, you kind of hurt my feelings here! After all the discussions you and I had on this board you still mistake me for a US Bible-belt-like ‘bible believing’ Fundie, who visits funny dinosaur-parks?

Do you like to pretend that all Christians are like that, so much, or is it vain of me to expect you to remember me?

However: Of course you can meet loads of Christians who acknowledge that the Bible is indeed not one book, but a compilation of many books with texts from many sources that were redacted many times by human authors and redactors engulfed in the very human world of thought respective times.

All you need to do is visit the department for Old-Testament Studies in any halfway decent Theology Seminary, no matter whether it’s Protestant or Catholic. The Documentary hypothesis is not exactly news to the guys you’ll meet there. Old-Testamentarians have been working with it since the 18th/19th century (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Documentary_hypothesis). Also these Old-Testamentarians just love archaeology! That the ancient Israelites once were polytheists and that this polytheism still shows in the older texts of the OT is hardly news to them either. So if you ask me, one would have to be seriously nerdy or seriously uneducated if one got freaked out by the newsflash that one of these ancient Canaanite Gods (jepp, if I remember right the Israelites were probably Canaanites) was married to another – hence the dismissive tone, probably: Could be that I just kind of envy these OT-study guys for the level of their nerdiness. I’m sure it’s fascinating stuff, but my tiny little brain keeps losing track and dozes off when faced with the knitty-gritty of it.

You may indeed find it a bit harder to find Christians who in the year 2015 still acknowledge Ashera as in worshipping her. There may be some Hippie Feminist Theology gals around who do, because they prefer a slightly more hands on approach than Sophia can offer. But still that would not catapult them back in time into the world of thought that Ashera’s worshippers lived in thousands of years ago.

As for God’s word: IMHO it’s indeed eternal and utterly independent of our human ideas. I believe it’s been with us for the past 2000 years in our darkest and brightest moments and it certainly will be with us until the end of time. But I don’t believe it to be an impressive compilation of ancient texts, however much divinely inspired those texts may be. The Word of God is Jesus Christ!
(Feel free to quote John 1:1-18 next time you want to vex a US Bible-belt-like ‘bible believing’ Fundie, who calls the Bible the word of God. ;-))

JBet, JBet, Jbet ... I wasn't responding to you personally, just using your post to kick start a line of questions.

While I get the idea that Mrs Yaz is a little yesterday, I can't see why that makes her so unimportant as to be technically non-existent. After all, Yaz is pretty old, himself. And since she is mentioned in the bible, either the majority of Christians haven't read their bibles, or for some reason don't like the idea of a Mrs God, so have elected to pretend she never existed. Which is it? It can't be that they think her utterly unimportant ... I mean she's MRS GOD, for god's sake :p Or perhaps they do? Perhaps they're so inured to the extreme sexism of biblical lore that female characters just don't register?

Meanwhile, what's John 1:1-18 ? Is it juicy? Do tell!

Did you ever check the mentions of Ashera in the Bible? You wouldn't have guessed that she was the wife of YAHWE once, who by the way almost had as little to do with the Biblical one as the Persian Mithras had with the Roman one.

"The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD; they forgot the LORD their God and served the Baals and the Asherahs." Judges 3:7

"That same night the LORD said to him, "Take the second bull from your father's herd, the one seven years old. Tear down your father's altar to Baal and cut down the Asherah pole beside it." Judges 6:25

"Ahab also made an Asherah pole and did more to arouse the anger of the LORD, the God of Israel, than did all the kings of Israel before " 1 Kings 16:33

"Josiah smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles and covered the sites with human bones." 2 Kings 23:14

    ...

Nothing to do with misogyny. Just with a change of religious ideas, mostly due to the experiences of Babylonian exile, which gave the final nodge to monotheism.

I'm surprised you can't google a Bible-quote. Here you go, it may not be juicy but it gives you a good idea what or who the Word of God is:

    "John 1:1-18New International Version (NIV)
    The Word Became Flesh

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.

6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known."
