It's common for the media to speculate on these kinds of deaths, whether it be this one, or for example, David Kelly or the TV presenter, Susan Dando. In terms of the latter, the UK media at the time speculated it was a Serb who assassinated her. It turned out that there were no grounds for this but that didn't matter because by then the minds of the British public had been brainwashed into supporting our bombing of Belgrade. It's not that these kinds of murders are analogous, rather it has to be pointed out that it is not uncommon for state media to speculate. This editorial suggests that only Russia engages in this kind of thing which is patently untrue.

I have noticed that the Russians produce a lot of in-your-face nonsense that some folk seem to buy but the quality of the effort is really pretty amateur. Most seems simply silly, of the 'who ya gonna believe, me or your lying eyes' sort. The pretense that there has been no invasion or that the evil Ukrainian's shot down that airliner come to mind. Sort of like 911 truthers the argument is so nonsensical that few pay it any heed. Then add in the astoundingly poor articulation of the fairy story....full of phrases like 'Ukranian Nazi's', simply nonsense....It is as transparent as the German effort in Sept of 1939 to blame their invasion of Poland on the Poles...
I hope you know, that the person in question, had even less political power and popularity than an average mayor. The fact that he was part of the infamous Yeltsin Government, that caused the dissolution of the Soviet union, and bombed its own parliament, only serverd to make him even less popular. By killing off Nemtsov who was by the way in a even more infamous pro Buisness party, the only thing the russian government would gain is a martyr. Therefore would the russian goverment not kill him, because if it were seriosly dumb enough to randomly kill of critics then it would have long lost this Cold War against the USA and would have dissoluted once more a long time ago, western media would have stopped reporting about Russia and Obamas speech about the USA bringing Russia to its knees would be less inacurate.
