Just doing what every rock n roller had to do if he wanted to keep playing rock n roll.

So where were you in 1968 ?

    Did you ever serve ?

If you didn't, you have no right to question any ones military service or lack of.

Here on the left coast during the Vietnam war, most veterans had to hide that they served, many lied about their service for almost twenty years. That's the way it was at the "Hotel California."

Why does the left believe that only left wing cowards have the right not to serve ?

I get a kick out of liberals who weren't old enough to remember how the draft worked from 1950 to 1972. Especially those who attacked Dick Cheney. When Cheney was 18, 19, 20 years old he was to young to be drafted. It was those in their mid and late 20's who were drafted. When they changed the law and started drafting 19 yearolds, Cheney was to old to be drafted. But they accuse him as being a draft dodger.

The uninformed should study the nations draft laws before they start spewing lies and half truths.

It's what they do. They need to stir up outrage in order to justify their leftist propaganda.

Nugent has plead guilty on several poaching charges.

As a hunter, I find poachers to be among the lowest scum of the Earth. That's all I'll say about Nugent.

There's no evidence of that. It's just a liberal rumor. Nugent had a student deferment and then when he was up for duty, he didn't pass the physical exam. Some said he got sick on purpose, but there is no record that shows he did. One thing he certainly did not do is run to Canada like many liberals.

If Ted Nugent was a draft dodger, then Bill Clinton was as well. Yet he served two terms as president of the united states.

From this we can conclude that draft dodging is only bad when conservatives do it.

I agree they do not always go to prison, like this one where a critic of Palin was getting death threats

    http://aksyrin.wordpress.com/2011/01/24/death-threat-for-a-palin-critic/

they had the women's aol account and IP address, but the police suspended the case without even checking it out?

"After suspending the case, the police department sent McLeod an email noting that the emails the suspect had exchanged with the Anchorage Daily News “would lead a person to believe that the poster” was this Anchorage woman, but that “just because we think we know who owns the IP we have not verified who was actually sitting at the computer at that IP address and posted this threatening communication.” The police also informed McLeod that the attorney general’s office had concluded that there “was nothing [Anchorage Police Department] could do at this point unless [the Anchorage woman], or whoever sent the email, took some act of furtherance toward Ms. McLeod.”

that said... anyone that is caught making death threats should go to prison...

depends on the threats and the person making them.

If a four year old kid walks up to a 20 year old college football player and said "I am going to beat your head in" I cannot see that being credible

same if some guy doing LWOP.

and lots of people don't understand what is a prosecutable threat. If you say "I am going to shoot you the next time I see you on my street" that is something the police will look into. If you say, if you molest my 10 year old daughter, I am going to shank your sorry butt, that is a bit different since it requires a condition precedent

I was 3 years old in 1968. I just know that what Nugent did to be classified 4-F was immoral, and as a conservative, I find it despicable that the pro-gun folks are using him as a spokesperson. I think he harms our side. I can say that regardless of my military service or lack of. Also, I can forgive him for that. Outside of the draft-dodging, Nugent is a pretty reprehensible human being, in terms of his admitted actions regarding underaged teenaged girls. He doesn't need to be a spokesman for conservatives or the NRA. HE hurts us.

I am a conservative, and I think outside of the draft-dodging (and yes, Bill Clinton was one as well), Nugent doesn't need to be a spokesman for conservatives.

Not a liberal rumor, it was based on an interview with Nugent in High Times Magazine. He bragged about doing that. If it's true or not, it's still what his public statement was in 1977. I don't care if it was a lie or not, he is on record saying it. He's a reprehensible man, and we as conservatives need to tell him to shut up. It's not like he's really helping us. For the most part, Nugent's statements are embarassing to us.

That's not correct. He said he became ill - he never said whether he purposefully made himself ill. He just told the story of what happened. How that translates into being a draft-dodger is quite a leap.

What constitutes being a draft dodger ? Not registering for the draft at 18 years of age is one.

Not reporting for duty when you received your induction orders like Bill Clinton did so someone else had to take Clinton's place. There's two.

How about applying for a student deferment During the Vietnam War era, are they draft dodgers ? There were 1.7 million men who were drafted during the Vietnam War out of 8.4 million who served on active duty in the military.

Another 2 million served in the reserves and Guard during the Vietnam War, were they draft dodgers ?

15.4 million student deferments were issued out of 27 million American men who were eligible for military service during the Vietnam War. Were they draft dodgers ?

    You don't apply for a 4-F or a 1-Y classification.

what he really SHOULD do is walk up and talk bad about Reid's momma, until Reid either has to swing or show himself to be a complete wuss.

Of course he said he made himself ill. He said he stopped showering for a month, and defecated in his pants. That stuff will make you sick. WHy are you people defending this scum? He's nobody that a conservative should want on our side. He's a has been rock and roller, and the only reason he's been in the spotlight for the last 10 years or so is because conservatives are fawning over him.

    - - - Updated - - -

he didn't shower for a month and defecated in his pants, so that he would be given a 1-y for mental illness. This is documented by his own statements. He should not be the face of conservatives on the gun issue.

He did say he defecated in his pants - he never said it was intentional. Back then, many hippies didn't shower for a month. They all must have smelled pretty rank.

Why don't you post his words saying he purposefully did that to avoid being drafted?

Go ahead. I'd love to see it.

Sounds like Nugent was preparing for what it would be like in Vietnam.

As I mentioned "Hotel California" above in another post on this thread. "Hotel California" isn't that hotel in Riverside, California that you see on an Eagles album cover. "Hotel California" is the Hollywood record business during the 60's and 70's. It was run by Hollywood liberals and if you wanted to make it in the music business, you better have not supported the Vietnam War and at least seem like you were a crazed druggy.

    Draft facts:

Drug use didn't prevent one being drafted. But back during the era there was no test to detect THC but opiates, barbiturates and all forms of amphetamine including meth could be detected. If the induction or classification board sucspected that someone was using some drug that couldn't be dected to raise their blood pressure hoping for a 4-F classification, the person was required to go through three examinations before being classified as 4-F

Smart college kids who didn't want to get drafted would stay up 48 to 72 hours with no sleep while smoking a lot of pot and drinking a lot of coffee. It worked for many. High blood pressure was a sure 4-F.

The easiest way to avoid the draft was just say you didn't like girls. Very few went that far because society hadn't been indoctrinated yet that being gay was cool.

Liberals are so stupid, they don't want to serve during peace time or war time and with the repeal of DADT, they can't use being gay if we went to war and had to use the draft again. :roflol:

I don't know about Nugent but when I received my draft notice and went to the induction center for a 'physical' there were plenty of stinky boys and boys feigning to be gay, deaf, sick, etc.....Yep...all drafted. I remember one guy that said his shoulders hurt when he raised them but, since he could raise them he received no deferment or 4-F. In order to be 4-F one had to be severely handicapped or below the already almost ground-level physical 'bar' the military had at the time.

He traveled to Alaska and was unaware that wounding a bear counted toward his legal bag limit. It was unintentional.

a draft is anathema to a free society and those who resisted it I applaud. Those who prosecuted the war should have been tried for treason since they wasted 55K or more American lives in an incompetent and half-assed attempt to pretend to fight the NVA in a war where we have no business being in the first place. Ho came to us and asked us to persuade the corrupt French government to NOT try to reestablish its colonial empire after WWII and Truman was too paranoid about "Communism" to agree.

Of course it was intentional. He says that he stopped going to the bathroom, and just did it in his pants. I already posted these links. He is not a man that should be representing conservatives. I say this as a conservative. I hate that that buffoon is one of our spokespeople.

I have read that he claims to have lied for the above interview. IMHO, if that is the case, then it is even worse--we don't need him as a conservative pro-gun sportsman. We know he lies when it suits him, and he has done so publicly. In addition, I think his rhetoric like the stupid "I'd shoot Harry Reid" bull(*)(*)(*)(*), just hurts our cause.

Now I have another reason to dislike him. True sportsmen wouldn't stop until they killed the wounded bear. He's not someone I want representing conservatism. I think he hurts the pro-gun cause much more than he helps it. If I were neutral on the subject (I'm not, I'm pro-gun), I would probably head to the pro-control side due to him.

Cheney received 5 or 6 deferments during the Vietnam war. He was a big draft dodger. I wouldn't be so critical of him if he, like Clinton and many others were vehemently against the war. Cheney was a big cheerleader for the war, but when he had the opportunity to serve, he in his own words had other things to do. He then weaseled his way into high positions in the DOD and used them to privatize much of the military then used his influence to enrich himself and his scumbag war profiteering cronies. Cheney is the poster boy for the phrase Chicken Hawk. He is gutless war profiteering slime. Cheers

You don't know what the draft laws were at the time and how they worked.

Dick Cheney was born in January of 1941. America ground combat troops entered the Vietnam War in 1965 when Cheney was 24 years old, by then the draft laws were changed and they were only drafting 19 and 20 year olds. It was the law.

Now anyone who attended college during the 1960's knows you were urged to apply for a student deferment so your education isn't interrupted during mid semester.

In Cheney case when he was in his late teens and early 20's before the Vietnam War he was to young to be drafted because back then they drafted men who were in their mid and late 20's.

When they changed the law and started drafting 19 and 20 year olds, Cheney was to old to be drafted.

BTW: By 1964, before the Viertnam War, Cheney was married exempting him from the draft.

You libs have to stop this cultural Marxism of revisionist history to further a political agenda with lies.
