Deleted Facebook account a couple of months ago - do not miss: Images of someone's half eaten breakfast. Invitations to play Lame-O-Crush. Friend requests from those rambunctious ISIS wags. So . . . how is everyone?
I did the same about a year ago although if I had a business that could profit from Facebook I'd probably have my company on it. Otherwise, it's just another inroad into my privacy.
I quit teaching (don't get me started) - my company has a Facebook; pretty much a business necessity these days I suppose. I did use it to keep up with friends abroad, but the drivel factor became too much to bear. "Hi, I'm at the mall!" "Hee, hee -me too!" "OMG, OMG!" Gag me with a dead smurf.
I admire you. I've thought of deleting it but I really like photos of nieces and nephews that I wouldn't otherwise see. I've also reconnected with several old friends, etc. But there is so much junk to wade through. Also, I opt-out of online tracking every couple of days or so and the Facebook tracker reappears at least weekly.
No (*)(*)(*)(*), friend requests from people in high school that I hated? Family members judging every post harshly? Employers demanding facebook access? I deleted it and never looked back.
I just deleted mine right now. Facebook kind of hides the delete option. It wasn't very obvious at first how to delete your account. I have a twitter account, good thing there are no pictures or any personal information there.
I always find it funny when people attack Facebook for all the stupid things their friends choose to post on it. Maybe you just need a better class of friends?
Agreed. I also find it amusing when folks express concern for their privacy on FB while posting on a large political forum. If you were the NSA, which would you be more likely to follow... mommies reporting their baby's latest gurgle or hot political debates?
I've never had one that I used but would like to now, Can anyone tell me of a net site (not therirs, somebody else) that tells you how to use it?
I resisted facebook up until about two years ago, and I've thought about deleting my account several times since then. Facebook, via my friends list, or lack thereof, has really made me question my relationship with many of those whom I'm 'friends' with. It's made me question the nature of some people. It's bizarre that I can post something positive, something free of ego, and get like two or three likes. But then an attention whore can post something stupid and their post blows up with likes and comments. What's more infuriating is when you genuinely and consistently like a friend or family member's posts, but they never reciprocate. If it weren't for the upside of facebook, like seeing pictures of those you care about, or hearing of their good news, there would be no reason to be a part of it.
Good for you. I have never done FB. It's not good to have your whole life plastered all over the internet. Nor do I care to have some people find me. LinkedIn I have found to be far more beneficial.
I'm pretty much with you. It's great for pics of friend and family, and the occasional funny pic. I can see how it could be bad for some people, but I haven't had any problems. Saved me having to go to my last high school reunion.
I am stunned at the number of people who feel it necessary to announce to the world they are leaving facebook because other people post things they don't care about. Irony, you are not dead....thanks for the smile.
Facebook is a lot more tolerable since I switched about a dozen people's settings so they do not appear in my feeds except once a year. I don't post much about my life on there, and I do enjoy seeing other people's family goings on, but I only really keep an open account because it is an easy way to communicate with friends and to see the major news in their lives.
I have found even the most intelligent souls succumb to being human and do not always put their best on the internet - understandable, everyone wants to fit in and be liked to some degree. Except me, of course - I am an old crab, so f&%k the lot of you.
It is my manufactured catch-all title for the thousands of pre-school caliber games that make the rounds on Facebook. Although there probably IS an actual Lame-O-Crush game - prob. to do with injuring handicapped people or something equally terrible.
Believe it or not, I've never had a Facebook account. I heard nothing but bad things about it, and it sounded stupid to me, so I never bothered with Facebook.
I liked being able to keep up with far-off relatives quickly - I am human, however, and the tide of ridiculousness eventually wore on me, so I made for shore and resolved to keep dry.
A slight exaggeration for effect - if one of those throwbacks ever pops up on my server I will have the FBI in here before you can say "Allahu Akbar."
Lol just making sure. I once got a friend request from "Mark Johnson", however "Mark" was from Russia and spoke no English. I messaged him to ask how I knew him, and he started asking me about my job...After a few google translations I blocked him. lol
Roger that. I spent 20 years fighting the Soviets. Love the Russians - Soviets were just another thugocracy with efficient propaganda. Russian my second language - my wife is from Bulgaria - she grew up in the communist system - we have a place there and she still won't go back. She still has nightmares. Maybe I will learn Urdu, Pashto, and Farsi so I can go help put the latest pack of wild dogs back in their cages.
