    I'll try this again:

Why do you think NASA is trying so hard to find a habitable planet like Earth?

They definitely know something most people don't. I remember reading somewhere that some scientist believe certain key ecosystems are on the verge of collapsing.

    Because science.

We've no way of getting there so we can't take advantage of it if we find one.

Nah, they are looking for a place to send the folks who think you make a successful country in this modern age with limited government, low taxes, and conservative social engineering so they'll have a place to create their imaginary utopia.

Lame poll. Isn't the goal of NASA to like explore space?
Get a piece of card board, write "the end is near", and go stand on the sidewalk of a busy interection

lame... wouldn't it be far easier to "pillage" astroids? Humans are evil and wanna go destroy everything....

LOL so lame... We wanna find a planet with life on it so we can throw away our trash there.

Maybe.... This would be cool. I wouldn't want a 1 way ticket, but if I could go there for a month on a vacation and check out the alian life, that'd be hella cool. GO NASA!!!

To answer one of the biggest questions out there. Are we alone? Also because they can. We can't get there so it's not the conspiracy answer you think.

Lots of people are excited at the prospect of finding other earths, whether that's because of the possibility of alien life being there or because it may be visited and explored by humanity one day in the distant future.

There's no realistic prospect of sending people to another solar system at this point in time. We still can't even be sure of getting to Mars due to radiation and other hazards.

If we lose this planet, we lose, period.

The Greys have given us limited time to find our new home for when they take over. We've broken our lease and are being evicted

That the powers that are currently in control are afraid that what happens in one of the movies Antz or Avatar, can happen on this Earth. That they lose their revolutionary war forced upon humanity and humanity breaks free from the 'matrix', and thus they have the need for a second Earth (safe haven) to have the ability to 'run' to.
In the end humanity will figure out what happened to them once again, and will find out how it could happen (the thing that happened before every empire, that control over emotion is key to prevent a revolution, because revolutions are about uncontroled emotion in too many people by chaos in a society or system)

What makes you so sure? In 1915 Einstein's theories were still being debated and Rutherford had just started the Experiments that would lead to Bohr's famous solar system model of the atom. Atomic energy was seen as an interesting theoretical exercise that would never be real and Lee de Forrest had just invented the Vacuum tube, allowing VOICE to be transmitted via radio. Electronic computers hadn't even been conceived of and electronics was still nothing more than an interesting lab curiosity.

In 50 years everything we see as theoretical will probably be reality, and we see interstellar travel as a real but theoretical possibility today.

They still aren't saying what's in Area 51 now

Lol. Posting on my cell phone.

I would suggest you watch the documentary 'Sirius' on Netflix. The government doesn't tell us everything they know.

Quite apart from any stupid scientific objectives, I have it on supreme authority that searching to find life in other parts of the universe is a religious obligation, sorta like "finding waldo" only "finding Jesus". then we can bring him so our ultimate religious destiny can be manifest.

Not necessarily. So long as the planet stays in one piece and the magnetic field surrounding it remains intact - we could live in orbit. If all the Earth's production was put into this endeavor we could probably have a sizable population up there, even if the planet itself was made eventually barren. From there it's just a matter of time until we find a way to travel to a new planet.

I thought maybe it was the Vogons preparing to demolish the planet to make way for a hyperspatial express route.

Fortunately in this reality the proper paper work never did come across the desk of their fleet headquarters.

Because that is what we created NASA for in the first place.....you know, exploration and discovery.

It is quite likely that everyone at NASA is bright enough to know that there is absolutely no possibility that we humans could get to any extrasolar planet without unbelievable advances beyond anything we can manage for the foreseeable future.

At least they claim they have no way to reach it.
