I can't point to a particular song because every time I hear that female high-pitched country/pop crap I gotta tune in someplace else.

Now I can listen to that stuff if Roy Clark is doing it. His 'Malaguena' version is outstanding. Most mariachi groups play it as a stand-by.

I was stuck at first between two songs: BYOB by SOAD, and Zombie by The Cranberries. What's odd is that I have loved both songs at some point, mostly because these bands just make good sound. The problem is with the lyrics. So here is my choice.

When I first listened to this song, it really touched me. I loved it. To me when I heard it, it talked about war, loss, suffering, the cycle (of war), and PTSD. It seemed to talk particularly of the soldier, and how in so many ways the ones most harmed by war are the ones who fight it, even if their bodies are completely intact.

But then I heard other people talk about the song and the "mindless zombies" that people enlisting were (this was around 2005 or 2006). People viewed it as an anti-war song, as I did, but I viewed it as an anti-war song empathetic to the plight of soldiers, and others viewed and used it as an anti-war song that belittled and despised soldiers. This was years before I enlisted, but even then I told people like that to "(*)(*)(*)(*)" and wanted to slap them silly. These are some of the people most deserving of empathy, PTSD can destroy men. Mocking and despising soldiers who have PTSD like that is like hating people with DOWNS because "they're stupid" and I, likewise, would tell such people to "(*)(*)(*)(*)".

So really, my hate for the song came not from the song itself, but from talking to other people who listened to it and hearing their interpretation and their take on it.

Haven't been here for awhile but I'd like to add Zac Brown Band - Free, they played it at the Concert of Valor for the Veterans and I thought it was disingenuous. These guys are singing about freedom and not having money when their millionaires, and they were trying to relate with real soldiers or average civilians who don't really have the same freedom as the wealthy. It is another example of hypocrisy created and funded by the wealthy to sell to the 99 percent.

It's often very difficult to decipher exact lyrical and meaning intent down to that level, and lyricists often deliberately make them open to personal interpretation, which is fine, of course. How it speaks to you is how it speaks to you, not necessarily how it speaks to someone else, or even how the original songwriter intended it or thought about it. Sometimes that's the beauty of language, especially in such an 'open' form.

Here's another interpretation of the same song (one I prefer, personally, although the original is a great song, and without great songs you don't get great covers!) by Breed 77 (great band with a fascinating mix of stylistic influences). In the video they make it fairly clear what they are aiming it at, I reckon - still very much anti-war, but aimed very much at 'the system' (and, perhaps, people's sleepwalking acceptance of it) rather than at soldiers. There are other 'political' nuances that could be taken (or not taken) from the song and video together, of course, and people may like or not like them (and they may or may not be slightly different from the song's original intent), but that's all up to the individual to decide for themselves.

How the hell does this garbage have more likes than dislikes? Are people really this stupid? I'm not kidding, either. How does anyone with an IQ above 80 like this trash?

But see, the deliberately bad entry above actually makes me laugh, a lot.

This is probably the worst "song" I've ever heard:

I had the unfortunate task of having to listen to that bum at the Sandy Relief Concert at Madison Square Garden. Why anyone invited that piece of (*)(*)(*)(*) along side of Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Eric Clapton, etc. I'll never understand. He yelled for 20 minutes while the recorded bass shook the building for no reason whatsoever. You couldn't hear a word the moron said, even if you were trying to. And the funny thing was the next morning people were complaining how many mistakes he made, as if ignorant gibberish had a purpose.

This is what America has come to. A no talent (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) is considered an untouchable star because he has this miracle protective black coating on.

Not sure it's the worst music, but definitely the worst vocal performance:

Paul McCartney, SNL anniversary show, Maybe I'm Amazed.

It'll probably amaze you that he also has a career as a songwriter, musician, actor, and composer too.

There is only one genre of music I generally cant stand and that is Reggae.

I cant stand Dave Matthews and dislike Nirvana, although I can tolerate it. Dave Matthews makes my head feel like it's going to explode and Nirvana is just way too played out - it's played more than Pink Floyd, I'm a huge fan of Seattle Grunge tho, I think Alice In Chains is one of the best bands of all time, so it's not the genre I dislike. When Nirvana first came out I was like 14 and it's like it's been on a constant loop ever since. Wherever music is played Nirvana always seems to weasel its way in.

I used to really like rap and used to produce a lot of it (I used to make instrumentals) but it all sounds the same now, so I don't listen to that crap anymore or rarely - every artist has the same style and uses similar instrumentals. It's not that the instrumentals or even the styles of the rappers are bad - its just that rappers today make absolutely no sense at all (sometimes their lyrics don't even rhyme at all) not only that but their lyrics aren't even creative - every rap song is about a) getting money, b) molesting woman c) getting high or d) killing people or e) a,b,c and d combined.

Surely it is not humanly possible not to like these songs!

I agree with you about rap. Since when did hip hop rely on just one single beat loop?

Most Nirvana songs are awesome but overplayed. You start to hate Kurt's voice after the 30th time hearing Smells Like Teen Spirit or Lithium in one day.

I didn't say anything all this time it was out and popular, but now that its time has passed I gotta say that "The Fox (What Does The Fox Say?)" by Ylvis used to annoy the crap out of me.

Anything from that ego-filled Kanye West named being. I don't get why he think he is so important...really do not get it.
