Most of the recent mass shooters have gotten their guns using background checks. UBC is not going to stop mass shooters, and criminals tend to buy their guns from other criminals, who won't be doing background checks. All background checks do is make it harder for law abiding people to buy guns, with almost no effect on criminals. They are a nice 'showy' type of law, but have no practical effect.

I like the spirit of your post, but by no means are there very many registered firearms at all in the U.S. It's required for machine guns, and some localities have gone that far down the Orwellian path, but the vast majority of firearms in America are NOT registered. Nor should they ever be.
