Obama, et al, want to do any number of "common sense" things to prevent mass shootings.

-I have a license to own a gun. To get that license I had to show a need to own a gun.
-I have a license to carry a gun. To get that license I had to undergo training and undergo a fingerprinted background check.
-All of my guns are registered; the state has their make, model, serial number and ballistic fingerprint on record.
-I had to undergo at least one background check before I bought all of my guns, including those I bought in private sales and those I bought from the federal government – which required fingerprints
-All of my guns and their magazines were purchased legally between 1995 and 2003.

How do these things prevent me from shooting up a school or a mall or a movie theater?

I don't think you'll get any useful responses. The only honest opposing responses will be made by people with a "this house is a gun free zone" sign in front of their house.

I also drop off and pick up my kid at school daily with a gun on my hip. Nothing could stop me either, but I am far more likely to protect someone than to go on a mass murder spree.

For purposes of discussion, of course.

Why link two-three year old articles? I actually agree with you on most of the above, except I've never undergone a background check to buy a gun, nor do I have a single registered gun. Does your state have a gun registry, or do you own NFA weapons? YOu do know that besides NFA weapons, there is no federal gun registry.

They were current when I originally wrote the post.
    Besides that why not?

There -are- state and local registries.

Well, on this system, you wrote the post today.

    I prefer current articles.

    Ohio has registries?

I've never lived in a place with a registry, thankfully.

I don't think there is a law out there to stop a mass shooting if someone really wants to do it,even if you couldn't get a legal gun. There would be illegal guns they could get, let's face it if someone wants to do it they aren't going to care where the gun comes from. The only way to stop it would be more protection.

By being able to properly draw, aim, and shoot back.

You hit the nail on the head, and I think that your post demonstrates that Obama and left-wing people like him should refrain from using terms or phrases that they do not comprehend, such as "common sense."

I think that you guys are missing the point. The phrase is common sense gun control.

Common sense gun control is not meant to prevent mass shootings - or any shooting for that matter. Even the most ardent liberal gun hating lefty will admit this. Gun violence only serves as a pretext to control the gun. It has nothing, nothing, zip, zilch, nada to do with reducing deaths.

You should try to read between the lines a little more carefully. Even Barack Obama does not honestly believe that controlling guns will reduce the number of people that are killed.

If we really wanted to reduce the number of people that get shot, we'd keep those with a known propensity to commit the act in protective custody (if mentally disturbed or on SSRIs) and in prison if they are convicted of a crime and no longer to be trusted.
