Who gets to define who is and who is not, a "terrorist"? One person's "terrorist" is another person's "freedom fighter". The nazis called many, if not all occupied Europe's resistance movements "terorists" at one time or other. Interesting Bruce Hoffman quote, "terrorism is a pejorative term. It is a word with intrinsically negative connotations that is generally applied to one's enemies and opponents, or to those with whom one disagrees and would otherwise prefer to ignore. (...) Hence the decision to call someone or label some organization 'terrorist' becomes almost unavoidably subjective, depending largely on whether one sympathizes with or opposes the person/group/cause concerned. If one identifies with the victim of the violence, for example, then the act is terrorism. If, however, one identifies with the perpetrator, the violent act is regarded in a more sympathetic, if not positive (or, at the worst, an ambivalent) light; and it is not terrorism."

The State Department, of course. Anyone who supports a terrorist organisation that is listed on the 'Foreign Terrorist Organizations List' should be deemed to have forfeited their rights to US citizenship.

So when the U.S. State Department changes it's mind or U.S. policy shifts, do all those "terrorist supporters" get their citizenship back?

No. They would still be aliens because of the fact that they supported an organisation whilst it was on the list. That itself is the crime. The merits or demerits of including an organisation on the list are irrelevant.

    Does that help?

The State Department should have all been jailed when they and Obama allowed the Muslim Brotherhood to come to the White House for dinner.

So this would also apply to all Jewish Americans who support or have supported Kach and it's military wing the JDL?

Thank you. I too have acess to a dictionary. By that definituion, the "Patriots" of 1776 were terrorists, The maquis, AK, and other resistance groups in occupied Europe during WW2 were terrorists . Perhaps you are wasted posting here, you should go to all the governments of the world and tell them, they don't seem to be able to arrive at a universally accepted definition.

What an excellent idea. Let us let the state decide what citizens are supporters of terrorism and give them the right to take away the citizenship of any citizen they deem dangerous to the state.
I cannot in any way imagine how that would somehow create a tyrannical state where the rule of law and respect for the individual is worthless.

Ahhh. Imagine the day that a Carson or Huckabee becomes president and takes away the citizenship of people with the wrong religion.
I am sure they from the rhetoric I have heard believe, that people who support abortion are terrorists too.
I have also heard many talk quite negatively about blacks and latinos. Maybe they will lose their citizenship too.

Excellent idea! I can see how you spent a long time thinking this through.

Whoa pal. Don't get all whiney. You literally asked to define terrorism. I did that. I answered your question.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

I cannot support the poll as written; it's unrealistic to answer such a complex issue in a simplistic way. I cannot support the passport removal because of a belief - only an action. Hamas is a terrorist organization - if a person breaks the law by supporting Hamas in an actionable way (not just belief) then yes, they are a terrorist and should not have a valid passport the US recognizes.

On the other hand, if someone has NOT broken the law and simply in their mind, thoughts and words supports Hamas, no --- they do not deserve to have their passports taken away. If I said the contrary --- it becomes a slippery slope. That opens the door to people having their guns taken away because they believe in small government, or others having their passports revoked and barred from entering the US because they believe in marxism, or conservativism, or believe in God or DON'T believe in God.

Either we're a country of laws or we are not. Either we live by those laws or we do not. Because a scenario is distasteful does not mean the laws are thrown out of the window.

First, there is no definite way to judge their support, they could simply say "I don't" even if they did. Second, I cannot answer the poll because it is worded to incriminate me no matter what I choose. One way I would be supporting the removal of many's freedoms under pretenses that cannot be proven, and another way I support terrorism. Think about that before voting.

I clearly voted with "No" now.
Sure, this is a question about US citizens who do so and not from Germany / Europe, but the question is a general one and valid for all countries.

Not that I support any form of terrorism, no matter from which religion or from which political reasons, but there are some points people have to think about too.
First of all the same question was done in the past about PLO, as well IRA too, because here Palestinians and Irish people in the USA supported them too as some do for Hamas now! So let me ask you all who voted with Yes, should all Irish citizens who supported IRA in their terror fought against British in Northern Ireland loose their US passport?
Please don't answer in matter of different issues, because this is not true, because both are terrorists who claim(ed) to be freedom fighters and the difference about reasons (religious / political) and whom they fight / fought does not matter!

Secondly is Israel of course a state and country ... as well more or less democratic and a constitutional state, but if anyone looks closer on it and open minded without prejudice, the "picture" becomes hard scratches!
I will not start here and now any blaming against Israel with all the things they do bad too and which are even by US law and morality a crime, but because Israel is a so close ally, it is not even really reported.
Think only as one example about the settlement policy of Israel in matter of illegal settlements. Look on the US reaction about this and all the other bad things Israel does too ... AND THEN compare this with the US reaction to other, lesser liked countries if they do the same as Israel does!

So, sorry to say, but the Yes in this Poll is only one sided.

...and I merely pointed out that the problem of defining terrorism is far more nuanced than a simplistic definition found in a dictionary. Thanks for attempting to answer my question, a worthy effort.

In my opinion, any Muslim found to be remotely tied to ANY form of extremist thought should have their passport confiscated and refused access to all western countries...right after they are shipped back to whatever ME nation they choose, if there is an airport left to land in. If not, a parachute and a ham sammich.

I didn't attempt. I literally answered it by giving you the very definition you asked for.

This is the problem I have with America, one second they're saying that every time you even talk to somebody, you're being racist, but then they go about trying to deport people because of religion! The terrorist attack on Paris, after that Americans want all of them to die, France is not America's country, it is MY country, it is the country of every French man and woman, so why do you think you can tell us what to do? If we want to deport every Muslim in France, don't get me wrong, that would be incredibly stupid, but it isn't an AMERICAN decision. Did we try and boss you around after 9/11? No, we did not. If we decide to use American ideas for our response, great, but it was our decision, not yours.

The schmucks that made America made this a requirement, everyone is accepted. So no exceptions, suck it up. That's the consequence of living in America.
