It was INTERNAL...not public. During WWII because of the threat of German spies and sabotage groups in Britain what became MI6 was allowed to operate anywhere. This became a point of contention after WWII due to the discovery that MI6 had bugged the homes and offices of certain members of the House of Lords and Commons so they basically outlawed the ability of MI6 to run op's in the U.K. But this can be superseded by the Foreign Secretary. The CIA is not supposed to run op's in the U.S. period!! But they do. AboveAlpha
That's paradoxical to the function of parliament. I find it interesting how the word "period" is used instead of full stop. But other than that what you've written is without substance.
There are a lot of things Parliament is involved with that is paradoxical to it's function. AboveAlpha
You have your own version of royalty; the absurdly rich bubble-heads who populate Hollywood and the innumerable TV 'personalities' who are worshipped like royalty and treated with similar obsequiousness and fawning adulation. You even elected one to POTUS.
The U.S. is a nation of 320 million citizens....40 million legal guests....and 38 illegal ones. When your talking about that many people there are bound to be a few idiots. Same think in the U.K. AboveAlpha - - - Updated - - - Try baiting an Eagle. AboveAlpha
I don't think American English actually does that. If anything American English doesn't follow the rules both in pronunciation and structure. Route for example is often pronounced rout despite the fact that rout actually means to retreat. Or caramel which is often pronounced as carmel.
Actually caramel and carmel....are used to describe two different things. Caramel is descriptive of a type of candy. Carmel....is an American English Culinary Techno-word describing the substance created, used, within or a part of various foods. AboveAlpha
I think a lot of Europeans are hesitant to criticize that behavior because the liberal media has deemed any criticism as islamophobia, or God forbid, racist. If those were white supremacists proselytizing their ideology through the streets, preying on the disenfranchised who are easier to radicalize, Europeans would speak OUT. And loudly! That behavior, ignoring/excusing their bigoted ideology (Islamic supremacy) encouraged by the liberal media is in and of itself RACIST. As if the brown skinned fascists are too inadequate to be held accountable.
Are you deciding whether to adopt Sharia next? I guess it will take a few centuries to untangle the language battle you are in though. English is a bastard language anyway. No need to discuss it's purity
As I have posted before there are millions upon millions of both Sunni and Shia Muslim's living very peacefully in the United States. But as far as American's are concerned we don't care if your Muslim or Christian or whatever when any group begins to hold rally's and plans acts of sedition upon the U.S. You do that....our Cop's will have you in prison so fast your head would spin. And if the Cop's were late getting there the U.S. has the most heavily armed population on the face of the planet. Either way....no one in the U.S. get's away with doing what they have been doing in the U.K. AboveAlpha - - - Updated - - - Actually....I have a position available for a Personal Assistant for my Cat. You know every time I go to the U.K.....and I admit it's not as bad as it once was....it takes me about 72 hours to figure out what the HELL some people are actually saying to me!! LOL!!! Mostly the older men....65 and up....I have the hardest time understanding. AboveAlpha
I have always had a healthy dose of British culture and BBC in DK. They were/are quite influenced by British culture. American more and more of course. I had teachers who spoke both British and American. The Irish can be quite hard to understand though.
YES THEY CAN!!!! LOL!!!! There are more Irish living in the U.S. than exist in Ireland!! Thing is when I am in the U.K. EVERYONE understands exactly what I am saying. But I can't say the same. AboveAlpha
Some parts of the US are pretty tough too But it seems like colonies retain a clearer pronunciation. Brazilian Portuguese is much easier to understand than Portuguese and the same goes for English. Just personal speculation based on no research
I speak a number of languages and Portuguese is one of them. There is a Northern and Southern dialect as in the North they use an sh sound for the s and the South uses the basic s sound. Brazil is a bit different as it uses both and they have their own dialect. I can also speak Arabic, Farsi, Pashto including the Wazir dialect and other languages. American English is the most highly technical of languages and is primarily used at world science conferences which the French are still upset about! LOL!! AboveAlpha
