An Open Letter to Donald Trump (from a Muslim)

Well it's good that the Muslim community is talking to each other and denouncing radicalism in the Mosques, that's an important first step. The best way to stop the anti Muslim rhetoric however is to show complete solidarity in a BIG way and that is why the large, public demonstration such as a million man march is the way to go. I agree with you that the American Muslim's point of view is not being covered by the media but believe me when I say that that would all change if there were thousands of people peacefully marching up to the steps of the capital. EVERY major news network would be there and would be talking to the demonstrators, speaking to the Muslim community leaders and sending out the protester's message to the world that the true followers of Islam will no longer stand by and allow ISIS or any other gang of thugs to hijack their religion and use it for evil purposes. I think that there would be an immediate 180 in the average American's opinion toward's Muslim Americans and it would really bring all Americans, of all colors and creeds together and unify them in the resistance of terrorist organizations. MOST importantly though, I think that it would really open dialog between us all that it will lead to not all but most Americans watching out for each other rather than pointing fingers!

One of my favorite childhood musical artists was Cat Stevens who basically left his career in music behind and immersed himself into his faith. He now goes by the name Yusuf Islam and has begun using his talents in support of humanitarian causes and charities. It's quite clear that several forum members are convinced that if you don't condemn the entirety of Islam it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are also a Muslim-and probably an apologist for terrorism. I find myself humbled to be in the company of such deep and insightful genius' as they.

First, lets dial it down with each other because I'd much rather have a civil conversation with you over this than a shouting match with insults.

If I've said anything in any previous post to offend I apologize.

Now that I'm starting with a clean slate........

This letter was really short & to the point. It wasn't written to bash Mr. Trump, and it wasn't written to put him down or embarrass him.

It was clearly one woman's position / feelings on some of his negative rhetoric about her people. (Muslims)

Look at it from her point of view, here she is an American citizen that lives here, works here, loves this country and wants nothing to do with terrorism. (surely your cool with that) She's listening to this guy rail on negatively speech after speech about Muslims and then he puts the cherry on top by calling for a ban on all Muslims.

All she's thinking is: "hey, we're not all screwed up in the head making bombs in the basement, and this type of dialog is very offensive & negative and it doesn't get to the heart of what the real problems are". (which is all true)

She's not advocating for billions of Muslims to be allowed in the country, she's simply asking him to see this from a different perspective.

Next, she's simply trying to explain to Mr. Trump that alienating Muslims (like her) or creating bans isn't the answer to stopping ISIS. (which it isn't and we both know that)

She clearly states where she is regarding Islam in this one sentence:

"I am what they fear most. Why? Because I don't buy into the convoluted, perverted blasphemy they claim my religion to be. I believe in the Islam that has encouraged me to think for reason, speak for truth and act for humanity."

Where she states: "my religion to be" she's telling him that what ISIS claims they are, and what they claim to practice is not what she, and millions of other "true" Muslims practice.

Jake, seriously, can you just get let go of your negative feelings towards Muslims for just two seconds to see that this woman is a human being, a decent person, and someone who cares about this issues just as much as the rest of us?

Hitler instructed his soldiers to not see Jewish people as humans, and as a result they were able to throw children into furnaces, starve people to death and perpetrate other horrors that even ISIS hasn't dreamed up yet. Slave owners pretty much viewed Africans as animals too, and look where that went.

So how about we stop de-humanizing people, any people, from any part of the world from any religion?

When we as a society get to the point where we have lost our humanity for each other..............we're all doomed, and we're all done!!!

 

I believe Good persons of Religion should "harass the Judicature" before "harassing the People" for any grievances.
