I know how the millenials feel, because I used to be where they are now. You're 25 years old living with your parents working at a dead end job that pays just enough to make the ends meet for three weeks out of the month. You want to have a nice house, a nice job, and that white picket fence with a sheep dog in the back, but there's no way you're going to get that. You get in your rust bucket car and drive past all of these nice houses and see the owners waxing their expensive cars while the automatic sprinklers water the lawn.

They desire what they see. And what they see is the life they should have had, except it was stolen by the people who own those houses and drive those cars. Insurmountable debt wracked up by the old people, and they are being told that they have to pay for it.

Then along comes Bernie the Socialist. He says "I'll give you all of these things. You'll get a free college education, and you're going to get that house you want to live in, and you're going to get that escalade with the 35 inch rims, and it's all going to be paid for by somebody else. You're going to have a good job, and that will attract that hot cheerleader you fantasize about. Everything you want, and those rich people who have way more than you do are going to pay for it!

The worst thing that can happen is that he is lying. The guy telling the truth isn't promising anything except to pull on your bootstraps and quit dreaming.

LoL nah...In my area It is more like they gladly pay the 2k a month for a one bedroom to live the social life. Young whipper snappers.
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...one-bedroom-d-c-apartment-is-2000-study-says/

"The number of apartments renting for less than $800, according to the study, fell about 42 percent, from more than 57,700 in 2002 to 33,400 in 2013. DCFPI concluded that there are almost no more apartments in D.C.’s open market that rent for less than $800 a month.

So if you’re still not convinced that D.C. housing costs are objectively exorbitant, here’s one more report to send the message home: Zumper, a national rental search site, says that D.C. is the fourth most expensive rental market among the 50 largest cities in the country, behind — surprise, surprise — New York, San Francisco and Boston."

Oh I cant imagine what them young whipper snappers are like in NY or san fran...

    http://sf.curbed.com/archives/2014/...nt_for_rent_in_sf_is_just_216_square_feet.php

"What appears to be the smallest apartment for rent in San Francisco right now is in Noe Valley, and it is a mere 216 square feet. The diminutive dwelling is being called a "mini-studio" and is asking $1,425 a month".

Seems like they got too much money to blow.

I was a Single father at 18 an out by 21 Year 2004...yea couldn't find nothing even down in Stafford VA for less then 1.2k a month no utility's.
So I joined the military :) Good thing we didnt break up on bad terms.

Yeah, when I was young I could at least afford the $200 a month for rent, and 500 would get you a damn good beater to drive. The problem was that those nice houses in the hills were 100 grand and up!

Things haven't gotten any better. Now they have to live at home, and 500 isn't enough to pay for the car insurance I didn't have to pay. What they don't realize is that even that guy in the nice house is wondering how he's going to make it. He's got a mortgage that would choke a rhino on a mcmansion that isn't worth what he owes on it, kids from hell that think turning 18 means you can stay home all day long, instead of going to school. And Bernie is threatening to take everything that the bank owns and give it to his kids...

How many old farts would do anything to hand the keys of his beige volvo estate to his son, the house keys, that pile of bills in his desk drawer, his wedding ring to a woman that hasn't put out since Clinton was president and then jump in his son's rust bucket and drive off towards the setting sun.

    You're welcome to it, Bernie!

Yeah, I know. In fact, I sort of mention that in my quote. The problem is that there is no real way of judging a country's economy, but I think it does refute the idea that western Europe has a stagnant or declining economy.

The fact that a senile old fool commie is getting so much democrat support proves how flawed Hillary is.

You talk about people wanting "free stuff" last time I checked everyone who has a job pays taxes so essentially it is not asking for "free stuff" it is asking for better use of the money they pay in. I for one would be happy for Universal healthcare and free college. I would rather see my tax dollars spent here at home than sending support over seas to countries with their hands out. Plus paying for endless wars Since World War 2 our military has been treated like mercenaries than actually what they were intended for the cost is shocking both monetarily and mentally. Plus the fact that I believe Bernie is the only candidate that will actually address the needs of our servicemen and women after they come home from one of these needless wars started by both Republicans and Democrats. Spending our tax dollars on education, infrastructure, and the betterment of our country is by far and way better than sending billions if not trillions abroad only to go clean up a mess a few years later that we financed when we have issues at home. I still hold that Washington said it best avoid foreign entanglements. Conservative always crow about the founding fathers but they some how have ignored their advice, the same can be said about some Democrats. I know in my lifetime since the mid 's there hasn't been a war fought that defended any of my freedoms. Simply put I would rather invest in our younger generations then maybe they can fix the sins of the past generation.

Lol...Hey, why should Trump get all the brain-dead support?
Bernie has as much right to plumb that gutter as the cons do.

the greed from the corps selling America out will cause socialism to be more popular....

crack down on foreign outsourcing, bring the jobs back home, tax foreign imports, ect... a society has to be able to make money and if they can't, they will turn to socialism... common sense

Who said that the US has the best secondary education system in the world?
According to several studies, Harvard, Yale or MIT belong to the best unis in the world, so do Oxford and Cambridge, but that doesn't make the US system the best in the world.

I've seen many yankee folks on this forum claiming the US has the best health care system, best prisons (whatever that was supposed to mean), best school system, best legal system, best secondary education system, best this and best that.
Is there anything you people are not the best at?
When asked for reliable sources for these claims, the basic answer i got, very often, was not particulary convincing; most of the time I didn't get an answer at all.
Needless to say that using an assumption as the basis for one's argument doesn't look very convincing either.
I'm always willing to learn new things though; so, where are the sources?

Agreed that Sanders supporters are generally clueless. On about the same level as Trump supporters.

You know the amount of bernie supporters really makes me think Trump may be viable in the general. Given that Hillary will be running as the corporate/bank bought candidate a lot of thier support may transfer to trump as a lot of their economic suggestions are similar.

Of course, "free" government services are never free. For example, K-12 schooling is not "free" education. Actually, it is pretty darn expensive, and it is paid for by the property taxes you pay, or, indirectly, by the rent you pay. But, this is a spending choice that we as a society have made, and we pay for it. And, although we may grouse about the pay and benefits of teachers and so on, generally speaking, our society supports this spending choice.

The fact that we pay for K-12 for our children does beg the question: Would it not be possible to pay for K-4 years of college?

First of all, we should almost never deficit spend for things we want. But, if we are willing to pay for things we want, what's wrong with that? The answer, really, is nothing is wrong with that. If we are willing to pay for something, we deserve to have it, don't we?

There are some good ideas floating around out there about tax-paid college.

First of all, base the amount of money the state (that's means us) pays on the cost of state-run colleges. If a student wants to go to an expensive private college, the student owes the difference.

Second, do not pay for any class a student flunks or doesn't complete. That is billed to the student.

Third, only pay for the credit hour equivalent of up to a 4-year degree.

The idea is not "socialism", unless you consider everything we else we choose to pay for collectively to be "socialism". It's just a spending choice, pure and simple.

The caution I have is this: If we want it, we must be willing to pay for it. We must not enact public-paid college and deficit spend for it. We don't deficit spend for K-12, so there is no reason why we should deficit spend for college.

If present economic growth trumps all other concerns then fine, dont copy them. But in that case, you cant justify the Cuban embargo anymore, you should gut the military and put those funds towards the economy, and throw open the gates and let all the Mexican immigrants in.
