What exactly does the GOP do if Trump (or another "outsider" type candidate) wins the nomination and then goes on to lose the 2016 general election with worse numbers than McCain v Obama in 2008 and Romney v Obama in 2012?
Remember Hillary Clinton will have two of the smartest politicians to ever become president One a Rhodes scholar The other one became president against all odds And won reelection when the economy was not doing great Right now the democrats are doing their homework and devising the strategy to win against Donald trump Remember most republicans are fearful of Donald trump, And do not strongly attack him
They freak out and gin up the hate. There, issue solved and conservatives figured out with alarming accuracy.
... along with the Washington Beltway Republican Establishment. "Senator, we are all a part of the same hypocrisy." - Michael Corleone
More depends on what happens down-ticket. I think they are taking a calculated risk on presidential races, but if it trump drags down legislative and gubernatorial candidates, there will be a serious bloodletting and split in the party.
After the 1980, 1984, and 1988 elections, the Democrats were probably asking themselves why they couldn't possibly win an election. Times change, the pendulum swings, and candidates change. When the Republicans figure out who they are, when a principled and charismatic leader emerges, their time will come. I sure wish we could resurrect Ike ......
Not sure how this is supposed to be any worse for the GOP than an establishment candidate losing in the general election.
Neither political party has a principled and a charismatic candidate this cycle. Bernie the socialist may be principled but charismatic ? No Hillary well lose /lose. Trump - lol do I need to say anymore. Trump - compare with say Satan he could come across as principled. Even charismatic in sort of a sick despicable way.
I think your comparison to Satan applies to Hillary better. Not sure who I'd liken Trump to. I'll have to think about that.
It depends more on the outcome of the Congressional elections. For example, if she wins & Democrats take back the Senate there will be gridlock as they can't win the House of Rep. If she wins & Republicans control all of Congress there will be gridlock AND if that witch does what she has promised in issuing Exec. Orders like crazy then it will go to the SCOTUS. If it upholds her orders then there will be civil war the results of which the Democrats will lose as they have no guns.
` ` I'm voting for Sanders. However, if he loses, we will arguably have the two worst presidential candidates in US history. The Republicrat party has dug to the very bottom of their individual cesspools to drag out these two corrupt mutations; Trump and Clinton. In that case, I'm voting Jill Stein and the Green Party.
Convinced that the media celebrity is befouling their brand, the Republican Party bosses are now unleashing the vanguard of Operation Dumptrump: Disgruntled hardcore trumpies will be very upset.
It is highly unlikely, since McCain and Romney were a part of the establishment of which Obama is as well. Establishment "selects" Presidents. Hence McCain and Romney "lost" by stepping back. Today we have 2 non-Establishment candidates, Trump and Sanders. Sanders cannot beat Hillary. I think Trump will route Hillary unless the cross-party Establishment starts their dirty tricks. But I do not think they would be that arrogant, since American people already speaking openly against their tricks. Also, Bush family became really, really weak. Father Bush is too old, George W is more afraid of 911 than anything and Jeb wants out and be left alone. (Jeb really does look like a nice guy). This should be really interesting year. In my opinion, of course. Thanks, Ed
continue on until the next election. This is America and here we can act in a civilised manner even when our guy or gal does not win.
There already is a serious split in the GOP. They aren't taking calculated risks on the Presidential race because the GOP has lost control of its nominating process. They are stuck with a short list of very unpalatable choices. There is Donald Trump, who is pandering to the Sarah Palin set with bigotry, ignorance, fear, xenophobia and jingoism. There is Ted Cruz, trying to lock up the Bible Thumpers There is Marco Rubio, hoping that he'll be the last man standing. He knows that the GOP establishment won't even fake holding their noses and supporting the other two. None of them are electable. Meanwhile, experienced, seasoned, GOP leaders are left on the sideline, in favor of the carnival barkers, and the con men. The GOP deserves what it's getting. Sarah Palin begat the wanna be celebrity as Presidential candidate. Until Carson imploded, we had three (or is it four) of them running this year. Trump and Cruz will no doubt drag down the GOP's Senate and House numbers.
One would have to only assume Trump would lose in a general election, right now Trump and Hillary are in a dead heat. What would the DNC do if Hillary is not crowned? http://www.rasmussenreports.com/pub...ction_2016/clinton_vs_trump_still_a_dead_heat
Hillary wins, the GOP loses the senate but retains the House. Polarized government continues. Both parties continue to lose members and those who identify themselves as independent crosses the 50% line of the total electorate.
What happens if Hillary loses the election and Democrats again lose both Houses of Congress? The OP is fairly pointless. Losing is losing with the results of losing.
Trump will almost certainly not be the GOP nominee, and if he is, he will certainly lose the election badly. The GOP lost control of its nominating process in 2008 (without knowing it), when it lowered the gravitas bar to tabloid level by naming Sarah Palin, an unknown on the national stage as their Vice Presidential candidate, based mainly on her looks and her ability to say the same sort of red meat things that are a hallmark of the Trump campaign. Her candidacy opened the field for all manner of charletans and con men, who hopped on the GOP clown car in 2012, and returned in 2016. Perhaps Trump's candidacy will be the thing that finally forces GOP leaders to unite, disavow the lunatic fringe, and regain control of their nominating process. This will be a heavy lift for them. They have been playing to the lunatic fringe to a steadily increasing degree for decades, culminating in the Palin candidacy. - - - Updated - - - Have a huge "smorgasboard" of candidates is not a sign of strength, it's a sign of abject weakness in a national party. - - - Updated - - - If it is finally dawning on the GOP taht right wing media is not it's friend, that might be a step in the right direction.
