The OT says that the arrival of the messiah will fulfill the law and the old laws will be abolished.

This is not even debatable so I am not sure what you guys are trying to do here.

Of course it's debatable. The OT talks about the Jewish Messianic age, not the Christian age.

    You don't get my point.

Why should anyone engage in apologetics just to keep an obviously false story in a book of mythology? Just drop the story and acknowledge it makes no sense.

If we are talking about the Creation of the universe and Biblical times then I will add this: In the Bible God is considered to be Omnipotent, which means he has unlimited power...NO LIMITS. To say he "can't" do something would mean the opposite. He very well could have created everything in a blink of an eye if he wanted to. When he "rested" that probably wasn't a literal term as we see either...he probably wasn't tired, it probably meant he wanted to enjoy seeing the beauty of his work.

But you are engaging in apologetics that end up completely distorting the theological meaning of the text.

The coming of the messiah is mentioned hundreds of times in the OT, especially Isaiah.

But what about verses like this.......

    https://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/isa/66/23/s_745023

and Zechariah 14 sure seems to indicate the coming of Messiah..... then later....... Gentile nations being led to observe the Jewish Festival of Sukkot - Tabernacles??????

    https://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/zec/14/1/s_925001

    Zec 14:4
    .............
    Zec 14:16
    ΒΆ
Could it be that instead of the old laws being "abolished" that they are thought of differently..... and observed in a more gentle and wiser manner?

(Eph. 2:14-15), "For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one, and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, 15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace."

    Anything else?

But Matthew says that JESUS SAID he was NOT abolishing the Law.

    Which is it?

Matthew said that Jesus was fulfilling the law and the OT tells us that when the law is fulfilled they are done. Jesus did not come to override gods rules but to complete them.

Good quotation but......... are the words of Paul meant to be used to NEGATE the words of Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus?

    http://www.politicalforum.com/relig...eets-apostle-paul-visionary-dream-heaven.html
Pastor Rick Joyner meets Apostle Paul in visionary dream of heaven....
.. that was given to him back in 1995.

I personally thought that this was a brilliant explanation of how the words of a mere man........ should not be used to annul...... the words of Messiah Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus.

Pastor Rick Joyner meets apostle Paul in visionary dream of heaven in 1995!

I believe that this writing can be truly helpful in putting certain statements by Paul into the context of the time and culture in which he lived.
    1Timothy 2:12:
"But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

    Matthew 5:17
"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

But isn't the fourth commandment pretty much the only one that most Christians feel should be totally forgotten about?

Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus did predict that the Sabbath would still have relevance in 66- 70 C. E. at the time of the conquest of Jerusalem by Roman armies!

    Matthew 24:20
"But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:"

Isn't the metaphorical fulfillment of the Sabbath a one thousand year period of genuine peace on earth?????

If you study the OT and Judaism you will realise that is not true. There is no mention of Jesus the messiah but throughout the OT we have the Jewish Messianic age. The passages in Isaiah that Christianity tears out of context have all to do with Israel - the Suffering Servant. You need to read and study the book as a whole. Isaiah 53 is one of 4 Suffering Servant songs from Isaiah. Isaiah is all about Israel. Why would he suddenly plant a chapter about a different person in the middle?

There is nothing in the OT that refers to the Rabbi Jesus as the Messiah. The Messiah will come at the beginning of the Messianic age, according to Jews.

By the way, in case you don't know I was once a Christian - now agnostic.

How do you think those people were able to measure how high the water was above the tallest mountain? Did they ride up on a bird with a measuring tape?

They made it up. They were good at that.

You left out the part where he was speaking only to those in Judea. And although Jesus did away with the old laws you will find that many of them he recreated. 9 out of the 10 commandments are repeated in the NT for example.

    - - - Updated - - -

I guess you missed the parts that predicted his birth and his exact death.

    Lol

And I know you've never studied the OT and Hebrew except in Christian terms. LOL

Everything that Christianity has adopted can be applied to Israel.

Nope but as I stated, 9 out of the original 10 are repeated in the NT. For instance, murder is condemned by Jesus.

What is the difference between the verb phrase...

    "they are done"?

    and "they are abolished"?

They both mean the noun-subject no longer exists.

God had a rule that you aren't supposed to wear clothes made of two different cloths.

    Jesus showed up.

Then, we are told, God's rule about clothes was negated.....aka "abolished".

Jesus (we are told) said he DIDN'T abolish it but "fulfilled" it.

But the rule is still "over-ridden".....aka "abolished".

Murder is condemned by governments throughout history regardless of religion or secular nature of the government.

It makes no sense to use that one as an example of anything related to religion.
