    Here's a nice topic:

Kelloggs gave children a ten cent FREE prize

and destroyed the kid's health with 50% sugar in the cereal.
it's candy, not food for kids.

So how do you feel about that? Are the parents dumb?
    Or is Kelloggs crooked?

Should Kelloggs be allowed to trick children like that?

really depends, if you have an active child is not as big a issue

if you have a child that is addicted to food, not a good choice

50% sugar is more like poison.

in fact - it is poison.

and the FREE prize should not be allowed.

I like the free prize. It should be allowed. Maybe your kids were fat and poorly fed where they couldn't handle sweetened cereal. But that is your issue so deal with it by making better choices.

Why not just be a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing parent instead of making the government do it?

For the same reason that Big Government Libs hate the 2nd Amendment. Personal choices take personal involvement and come with personal consequences and rewards. Libs don't want to be responsible for their own health, employment, safety, transportation, etc. They want Big Brother to satisfy all needs, all wants, just like the little children that they still are. "Mommy, make it right for me!" they proclaim.

Wow- good post! You nailed it. Too many kids no longer are out in the sandlot anymore. They'd rather sit their huge buts in front of the TV or PC all day. Damn I remember being so hot outside that the nearest garden hose was my best friend. It's sad how times have changed.

There is no law that says parents have to buy this cereal. There are other choices : Frosted Flakes that Tony the Tiger says are GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAT - jUST LIKE ODL will make America ..

There are Coco Puffs, and Honey Drips, and Sugar Snips, and

good stuff also Wheaties, and CORN FLAKES, and raw unsweetened oat meal and Rice Crispes and other boring stuff that our kids / grandkids need to be eating ...

That stuff certainly isn't good for childhood obesity or diabeetus. We can't wonder about the growing epidemic of obesity and other health issues in this country when many do eat foods of this kind instead of wholesome, natural foods. Foods that busy and lazy parents can't be bothered to prepare, and which never appeal to a child's palate as much as fat, salt and sugar tend to do. Und? As the kids indulge in these bad foods, they develop a habit of eating them that lasts into adulthood. Foods of this kind are probably a major part of why so many have eating disorders today. People wouldn't overindulge in potatoes and steak and greens and fresh fruits. These things are filling and do not trigger the kind of brain response that the processed salt, fat and sugar foods do. Real foods do not become an addiction, but these processed monstrosities are practically formulated specifically to be addictive (without being beneficial).

What can we do? Outlaw processed foods? I don't think that would go over well, so all we can do is raise awareness. Good job doing that, my super friend.

Right-o. The problem is simply one of grrrrrrrreat! advertising plus grrrrrrrrreat! formulation of the product to be very appealing to the palate. Too many of us will fall for that. We're up against a well-financed, well-oiled machine that seeks to overpower us based on our natural weaknesses and vulnerabilities as humans.

I don't know about calling corn flakes something that kids need to eat, however. Corn is really not much of a food. Oat meal, with or without a good sweetener (I recommend honey) is a far, far better option, as it is pretty natural. I wouldn't mix it in with any of the other so-called cereals that you just listed, because those others are all processed.

That's not all there is to it at all. Modern conveniences don't help the situation, but food addiction and a lack of desire to go run around the sand lot are separate issues from having TVs and PCs in the home. Kids still go out and play, and before TV and PC, kids still developed poor eating habits and got fat. In fact, many end up with a weakness to bad foods thanks to their genetics. Experiments have identified different eating habits very early in development, with some eating all they can get while others stop quite naturally when they've had "enough."

They could eat salads for breakfast, but until you take the xbox away, it won't matter.

Ok I hear what you're saying but come on? It's not like these types of cereals have just popped up. I'm 50 yrs old and I remember froot loops as a kid. My Mom was responsible in that regard...I always got my tbsp of cod liver oil and a whole helping full of vitamins once I devoured my morning treat. My point is these cereals are like anything else...nice in moderation. It really boils down to parenting.

Interesting, but breakfast cereals are in a decline of sales. Kellogs is slowly transitioning out of the cereal business.

Sugar is not poison. It's naturally made, and to some degree we need sugar (carbohydrates).

not hardly, I am pro-choice, let the parents decide, not the government

and for adults I am pro-choice too, if you want to own a gun, smoke a cigarette in your own car\home, drink a beer, smoke a joint, have at it... you decide, not the government

too many people want a nanny government to force their beliefs on other people

    OK OK
So no one is going to stop Kelloggs from giving a free prize, and then creating
something that kids crave, even get addicted to - that is poison - that destroys their
health for a lifetime. And it rots the teeth.

Funny how even McDonalds gives free prizes - or it least it did years ago. I haven't
payed attention to McDonalds in the last ten years, since II found out they load on the chemical additives.
they use chemicals to alter the texture of their food - to make it addictive.

No government should ever stop big corporations from destroying people's health.
I get that now. that's what everyone is saying. Maybe these giant corporations
should be taxed to pay the high costs of health care as the population ages.

We should probably start in the schools - teaching people about nutrition and health.

McD puts aluminum into some food.

Anyone know why they put aluminum into people's food?

    Anyone care?

Oh, but there's a free plastic prize for the kids.

    (people are so dumb)

No they don't. They are or were using ammonium hydroxide, not any form of alumin(i)um, for 'washing' their meat.

I got some coupons for good deals on burgers.

Buy one get one free. :rock_slayer:

Sure it has twenty two chemical additives and MSG to make it addictive,
but it's FREEEEEE. Just looking at the coupons makes me hungry.
