"Internet, because who doesn't have it."

"An extra 200 dollars, because who doesn't like to spend money "

    Rolling my eyes.

I earned minimum wage, for 6 months, as a teenager, at a fast food place.

    Here are some options.

    1. Get are roommate
    2. Go to the library for Internet
    3. Ask for a raise, if your labor is validated, you might just get one.
    4. Learn a job skill to make yourself more marketable

I agree, you can't live on minimum wage. Which is exactly why we shouldn't incentivizes it by raising the minimum wage.

    Lol.

No company is going to go bankrupt because of minimum wage.

All they will do is Jack the prices of goods and services to offset the additional operating cost and maintain profit margins.

Trickle up as a result of the minimum wage only causes inflation.

Another government union shill trying to disguise the reason for the push in the minimum wage.

Now let me clarify what this issue is really about. You see it has nothing whatsoever to do with the people who earn the minimum wage because there are so few of them they do not constitute an issue.

Less than 1 in 100 workers actually work for minimum wage so the entire subject is irrelevant until you factor in that many government workers who make multiple times the minimum wage have their pay tied to the minimum wage so a raise in the minimum wage means a raise for the union workers.

Now the issue begins to make sense. You see the miniscule minority of people who make the minimum wage have neither the money nor the clout to mass a movement the size of what you see to make this a national movement. In addition, many will lose their jobs to automation if the new wage takes effect.

The government unions however, have millions and millions to push this issue and to hire shills to constantly push the issue on forums such as this. In addition they have much more to gain than the minimum wage workers. So you see, it is not the issue you are being led to believe.....

The less that one in a hundred minimum wage workers are not the ones leading this fight, it is the well paid government union workers, some of whom will get raises over 10K if the 15hr becomes reality who are pushing this issue.

Lots of companies go broke for lots of reasons.

Do the math. Six years from now, when California's minimum wage increase takes full effect, the burger on the dollar menu will then be $1.14. Oh, the humanity!

Huh? We are living with 5% unemployment (which conservatives tell us is full employment because they want to keep wages low).

You understand that people can't live on minimum wage as it now exists but you don't want to increase it?

    Yea...that makes (conservative) sense.

so a raise in the minimum wage means a raise for the union workers.

yea...middle class workers getting a raise would be horrible huh?

You just validated what I said above

Raising the minimum wage means Person working will need fewer social services.

You can survive on minimum wage. It may not be the lifestyle you feel entitled to, but it certainly possible.

    Smaller government means privatizing costs.

    Yea...if you live in a box...under a bridge

    - - - Updated - - -

And nearly every time...privatizing means crappier services that cost the taxpayer more.

But hey...some rich guy gets richer every time too so...

You can go that route, or you could have a house mate or 2 to share expenses like cable, utilities and rent. Just depends on what you feel entitled to.

So right on! My daughter works at fastfood. This particular restaurant hires a multitude of 16 and 17 year olds that spend a full day at school and are learning a work ethic. They can have control over their hours to a degree.

She wouldn't have a job if the minumum wage was a "living wage". These places offer a starting place for young workers and it hurts our college and high school students to force a higher wage.

This is false. Socialism is the collective ownership of the means of production by the working class. At the moment, the means of production are owned privately by capitalists.

Communism. The solution to the original poster's issue is communism.

How many current illegals, would have been legal, if it was as simple as obtaining a market friendly work visa, for a fee.

Communism is the collective ownership of the means of production. Socialism is what we have in the US simply by delegating the social Power to Tax.

The problem with protectionism isn't putting the policy in place, it's preventing a reciprocal policy in other nations. Voluntary association by definition helps both parties, so such policy is a deadweight loss for both nations. Except, that is, in the rare case where the other nation doesn't close their borders themselves.

Moreover, as far as the outsourcing of jobs goes, protectionism has little effect next to dismantling a lot of the anti-free market policy we already have in place. If an American company were legally permitted to employ someone at Chinese wages, would they not? Are there not people who would work for such a wage if given the opportunity? Presumably some wage is better than living on the streets. Yet such voluntary association is prohibited by law.

You cannot be competitive internationally with a leftist economic policy.

We have "regulations" for a reason. There were not enough social morals for free to go around to stop with just Ten Commandments.

Why not simply hire "illegal" management to lower costs?

And essentially, the higher cost of goods and services is a result of minimum wage.

Which means the purchasing power of minimum wage earners remains stagnant.

Nonsense is believing raising the minimum wage for low income earners will result in more purchasing power

All minimum wage does is makes things more expensive, and power people cry again the need a higher minimum wage.

    Uh huh.

As some as the cost of living raises to compensate, they are right back in the same place.

    Overwhelmingly it is.

Anybody who is trying to make a career on minimum wage needs to evaluate their life choices.

of course, if taxes were lower these costs would go down. I generally agree though, overall it seems that the best federal minimum wage would be about $10 an hour if it's going to stick around, but personally I'm in favor of it being completely abolished and instead instituting a Negative Income Tax.

I'm not going to sponsor green cards when the work is not full time and I doubt a green card applicant will be granted without full time or near full time employment...
