    Correct.

    Fantasy.

And don't confuse daydreams with reality.

I grew up in a sundown town -- blacks were told not to let the sun set on them if they valued their safety. I've had the KKK try to recruit me and then threaten me for looking "too jewy." I've worked in real estate in Texas and have heard, first hand, owners and agents admit to racial discrimination -- "I only want white people renting my duplex; don't put a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) in there." I can't visit home without hearing my family complain about "that (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) they put in the White House" and make jokes about lynching. My town didn't desegregate housing until the 90s. I've had security follow my wife and I around the grocery store because they thought an interracial couple looked suspicious. I'm glad you grew up somewhere that allowed you to believe that racism is dead. Unfortunately, it isn't.

Hell, we have peer-reviewed studies that blatantly show racism in business hiring practices. You can have two resumes that are identical in every way except for the name, and the less "ethnic" name will get more calls for interviews. Again, I'm sorry if reality is inconvenient for your political agenda, but it is still reality.

    . . . and?

What are you even talking about at this point?

Sure, why not use a black dude?

It's not that I don't like your answer, but rather it helps people to understand that when you say "racism" it doesn't mean the same thing. You're typing out the same letters as the rest of us, but the definition is different. When I type 'racism' I mean the traditional ugly mississippi burning racism that MLK fought against. When you type 'racism', you mean distinguishing between races.

ski hill? Us white guys call them slopes, but it's all good.

During MLK times, that was the same definition. Whites all over thought they were the superior race to the blacks. That is the very definition of racism.

Yes, ski hill. I bet it depends on where one lives, not the color of one's skin. Or is white superior to you?

And I'm pointing out it may not be racism. Just hate. The stereotype is wrong, unless the hate is because more colored people are getting more populous and the whites feel their superiority slipping. But if they hate because they feel wronged in some fashion, that isn't racism. Just hate, right or wrong.

All right, let's say for the sake of argument that there's racism.

To what extent is it responsible for the social position of poor black Americans today? I mean, really. Is racism so widespread and serious that it's not allowing these drug dealing, gang banging blacks to go to school and make something of themselves?

I think it's racism on their part that does this. They don't want to participate in 'white' society. They view it as WHITE!

Go on. Identify exactly how blacks are oppressed through racism in modern America.

No, we've already discussed this and your definition is not the belief that one race is superior to another race. Your definition is not the same one MLK used, nor the generally agreed upon definition. To you, it's just noticing that there are differences between the races.

Is white superior to me? In some ways, yes. On a scale of 1 to 3, black chicks are a 3. On the other hand, if I'm choosing basketball players for my team, I'm going to be choosing black guys. If it's a swimming team, the same guy is going to be the last guy chosen right before the skinny white kid that looks like he'd drown in a bath tub.

To you, this is racism. To me, it's just playing the odds.

    Full Definition of racism
    1
: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
    2
    : racial prejudice or discrimination

    I go by 1.
Now having looked at the definition of 2, I can see it expands further than my original thinking.

That is not racism to me. But if one says all blacks are better at basketball because they are black and they all are superior to any other color at basketball, then I will say that is racism.
Or if one says all whites are better at math than any other color simply because they are white, that is racism.
But a general statement, blacks don't swim as well as whites on average, that isn't racism, that would seem to be an accurate statement in my limited personal view.
There may be stats that show me wrong, then I would change my opinion.

So then we get back to the black guy that did not get a job because of his race. How is he different from the black guy that got chosen second to last for the swim team, but first for the basketball team?

If I'm trying to sell wonder bread to white people, I'm gonna hire the whitest guy in America to sell my wonder bread. If you're black, I will apologize, but explain that I have to cater to my customers. They're white, and they like wonder bread, and they like their wonder bread sold by white people.

Does that make me a racist, or a race realist? If I was selling rap music, I'd hire the blackest guy with the biggest gold chain and the goldest blingiest grill. I don't care about your race. I care about moolah!

What I'm not going to do is look at people and think "oh, he's (insert color here), so he's obviously inferior to me. We're different, and I admit that you don't want to see me dance. I'm also a fan of cringe, and there is nothing cringier than...

If the sole reason for not giving the guy the ski job was because he was black, then yes, it is racist. If his skills were never given a look.
I think if you told someone they weren't hired specifically because they are black, they may have a discrimination case. For I've never heard only white people want to buy white bread from other white people.

    Ahhh.... retreating to the law?

If that's the case, then let that be the case. Instead of morality, ethics, and common decency, you're retreating to the "they may have a discrimination case".

If you want to go there, then I guess we're going there. The LAW!!!!

Then you give up all that nonsense about slavery because that was the law then, as well.

You sure you want to go there? If so, then you have already lost the debate. You have also lost the debate because you went with the "yeah well it's racist" thang which is quite legal.

    You lose again.

You took it that direction, so don't blame me for following you down that road.

Hmm, never brought up slavery. But it was legal to be racist at that time. And most every slave owner definitely thought whites were superior. So racism was legal. Today, not so much.

I wasn't in this to win anything. So claim anything you wish.

But you win, you will be racist. I guess that is where you were going with this, yes?

If silly games is what you want. Have at it.
We were discussing the term of racist.

Just cutting you off at the "it's the LAW!" path.

I don't want that happening, and I'm guessing you're already thinking up reasons other than pointing at the law as a premise.

Fair enough. I thought you might want to take a different tact, but I guess not.

That's how debate works, though. A thrust is met with a parry.

If your argument is that racism alone cannot hold someone back if they are willing to pay the price to succeed, I agree. But that is a long way from saying there is no racism in America. A man was shot today by police lying in the street trying to protect an autistic patient.

I can find you a half dozen videos of black men being shot in the back running away from police which is murder. How many videos can you find me of white people being murdered by police?

I am not saying that black culture has not contributed to the plight of black people in this country, but they have been under a handicap from day one. Many of the issues of black culture were imposed by the policies of the government who engineered dependency into their social agenda. If you reward people for doing the wrong thing, and penalize them for doing the right thing, they will most often do the wrong thing. If you do not believe that simply look at any unionized employment situation where it takes an act of Congress to fire someone and you will see the biggest bunch of loafers you have ever seen.....

I agreed with everything you said until you went off the rails about unions.

I deal with unions every day and that's just not true.

    racism is not an instinct.

Sure it is, I have worked in both environment's and in any unionized environment where it is difficult to fire employees, they loose their incentive to work. The bad workers get paid the same as the good ones, so there is no incentive to excel.
This is especially true in unions where promotions are based on seniority instead of job performance.

I read a couple of them, that's why I said racism isn't instinctive.

    That would be your opinion.
My opinion is it is not. It is learned.

I don't think there is conclusive evidence one way or the other, but why would one feel instinctively the need to feel superior to another color skin?
