This is a different sort of test from the political compass and I quite like it (though I think their weighting of the importance of taxes to the individualism score is bull(*)(*)(*)(*); look at my freedom scores, yet somehow my not wanting to completely bankrupt the country means I don't care about individual people). Sorry for the poor quality, the site seems to convert the image to a JPEG.

    Now, here's what gets me.

There are two issues on that chart that will cause me to be a social pariah (especially in 'polite company' in Canada) if I seriously argue for them:

    I don't want affirmative action.
And I want to be able to mock minorities all I want.

Though I am a social liberal in all areas, the fact that I don't want minorities to get any special treatment will, in the eyes of the perpetually offended brigade, so morally outrage them that my other beliefs are irrelevant. They don't care. I'm dead to them, a racist, bigoted (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) who might as well support Trump for all they care. And since political parties really play up this identity politics bull(*)(*)(*)(*) for score brownie points, I end up alienated from my natural go-to party (the Liberals; granted, their corrupt and manipulative habits are also good reasons not to vote for them regardless) because everyone places an absurd amount of value on this one little issue of the feelings of minorities. So important are they that they would rather lose my vote to the Conservatives (who I don't really want to vote for but basically have to) over this one thing then accept a difference of opinion in this area.

And what's worse is this crap is brewing a right-wing backlash that will be far worse than what currently exists, with ethnocentric and nationalist priorities like we're back in the 30s. And they refuse to stop and moderate themselves, because they're just so (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) offended that I don't care about the feelings of the Muslims I (and others) mock (because their religion is dangerous, farcical nonsense).

I don't like where current politics is heading and I fear for liberalism. Nothing can go well when everyone's decided their moral righteousness is more important than other people's freedoms.

Edit: just realized I forgot to slide the "women's rights" slider to "Equal wage laws and paid maternity leave", which bumps me farther to "modern".

Did you look at the picture?

Does any of that look illiberal to you? Does any of it indicate I'm not liberal?

I mean you can just refuse to believe me but then you're acting just like the people who insist I can't be liberal because I don't want affirmative action, as if that one issue outweighs everything else.

Also if thinking Islam is dangerous and false and Muslims are deluded for believing it is bigoted then yes, I'm a bigot, and I would furthermore not consider bigotry a bad thing if that's how low we're setting the bar for it.

There's no use trying to reason with Lesh, he'll just throw petty personal attacks at you, then report you if you respond. Basically, he's a troll.

Yeah, you got his attention because in your OP you're a liberal that doesn't lock step with him, which then makes you not a liberal at all. He did the same to my threads as well.

Sorry. I don't know many bigoted liberals...and even less who refer to other liberals as corrupt.

Even fewer who advocate bending to conservative BS because they "might get mad at us".

I really shouldn't feed trolls but I'm bored today.

Nothing you said makes any sense. "Might get mad at us" - what? If anything I don't care if people get mad at me, why else would I unapologetically bash Islam, call Muslims deluded and defend the free speech rights of bigots?

You are free to call yourself whatever you want. Liberals are the big tent group ...many are welcome. But if you want to mock minorities we are free to call you an idiot

I don't see what's idiotic about mocking Islam but I suppose I can't control your mind.

What they believe isn't true, they have to deny reality to believe it. That's pretty stupid, so I'm going to mock it, no matter how many people delude themselves into believing it.

If that's bigotry then bigotry is just fine with me.

Wasn't aware the definition had changed. I thought bigotry only applied to irrational prejudice.

Apparently you didn't read your own OP

And what's worse is this crap is brewing a right-wing backlash that will be far worse than what currently exists, with ethnocentric and nationalist priorities like we're back in the 30s. And that OP sounds like something we could have heard on the RNC Convention stage

I thought you were referring to something else when you said that, my mistake.

Yes I am concerned about the backlash. The USSR produced people like Ayn Rand in response, for example - one extreme begets the other. Because the right is going in a perilous direction and as long as people like me get lumped in with them by people like you simply for not agreeing on minor philosophical points you're just feeding them votes.

And yeah it might sound like RNC material, were it not for the policy positions I hold. Looking at those would make my presence at such an event unacceptable - universal basic income? I'd have hammers and sickles painted on my back and be beaten to death.

I wasn't talking about violence, I was talking about them being stupid and deluded.

If you want to talk about their retrograde conservative social mores, that's easy, I just have to whip out the Pew Polls. Violence? Maybe not. But they're worse than the Christians when it comes to social norms and moral commandments, not necessarily in scripture but in practice.

Stupid was conjecture, I'm just assuming that, given that accepting reality and not falling into the religious trap typically, though not always, requires better cognitive functions.

Deluded is a fact though. They believe things that aren't true.

What? I don't believe in Jewish War Gods, angels, flying horses, miracles and talking snakes in magical gardens with knowledge-giving apples, all of which are a-scientific nonsense with no evidence to suggest they existed or indeed could ever exist. How am I as deluded as they?
