A Birmingham mother-to-be sent a would-be intruder to the hospital Friday morning. Officers from Birminghams west precinct were dispatched to a home on Ethel Avenue around 2:20 a.m. Friday. Marquita Turner said she's lived there for seven months, and her house has already been broken into three times. Now five months pregnant, she said she was taking matters into her own hands when she shot a man who police say was trying to break into her house overnight. "I thank God that I had protection 'cause if I didn't, you never know what could have happened, Turner said. This was my first time pointing and shooting. I never been to a gun range. I never went to target practice or anything. I was just, at the time, protecting myself. She said she got the pink Millennium 9 pistol two years ago for protection. Two days ago, Turner said she heard somebody breaking into her house at the same spot. Early Friday morning, she said she heard somebody take the air conditioner out of her window and climb inside. I grabbed my gun when I woke up. And I walked out of the door and I saw them, the guy in the hallway ... he was kind of close to me so I shot and he fell. And from that point, I went and turned on the lights and I called the police, Turner said. She said she shot two or three times, hitting the intruder once. It was immediate. Once I saw him I instantly, it was just fire 'cause it was adrenaline rush, scared, need to protect myself and my child. It was just fire at that time. It wasn't no see who it was. It was pitch black. All the lights was off. So I didn't turn any of the lights on because I know I didn't want if he came in there, he could see me, he could have harmed me before I harmed him, Turner said. She said she's not scared, but she will be moving. You have to protect yourself. Without a doubt. Take matters into your own hands. Get some type of protection. Don't take anything for granted. You got to protect you and your child. Be strong. If it comes down to that, then that's what you have to do. Don't be scared, Turner said. The man was taken to UAB and is expected to recover, according to police. http://m.wvtm13.com/news/birmingham-woman-shoots-burglar-early-friday-morning/40943040
This incident will be counted as just a "gun death" and proof why guns should be outlawed. Anti-gunners count the death of the Orlando shooter as a wrongful gun death.
That is so true, freaking Hillary Klinton would prefer she had died as a Victim rather than be a Victor !
My sister's boyfriend used to be extremely anti gun. They're engaged and serious about being a father figure for her daughter. We were talking earlier. He wants to get a gun for home defense. He uses a baseball bat for now but he knows a gun is better. He's still anti gun. Still doesn't like "assault weapons" and such but at least it's a start.
He indeed did live. Sadly, our justice system will probably fail us and release him all to soon so he can create more victims.
To bad she didn't get im in the head.Somebody ought to tell her to sell that pea shooter and put the money on a 1911 with some good hollowpoints. Im a big believer that self defense guns should start with number 4 and go up from there.
Which was true, back in the day when Nixon was President, However, with today's ammo, the performance gap between 9mm and .45acp has closed sigificantly. A 1911 is a great choice as a sidearm based on merit, However, some do not understand the simple workings of this handgun and want something like a Glock oddly enough, and LE does not always allow choices.
I only have one problem with this story - that there are two rounds unaccounted for. Where did they go? I say this as someone who had plaster sprayed into his face when a domestic squabble turned violent and the husband shot three rounds at his wife - one missed me by less than a foot and I was 50 yards away. I would rather see people protect themselves with shotguns, just to protect other people in the house and neighbors. How would you feel if you shoot an intruder while also shooting your child in the next room? Just a thought.
proof that slow heavy bullets work, love bugs squished on a mini van windshield.yes ammo has come a long way and I suppose , some gun is better than no gun.I read somewhere that 22s kill more people annualy than any other caliber.Didnt verify that though.Heck todays pellet guns will bury up in a phone book 4 inches at close range.
You are correct, My Glock 17 = 17 + 1 = 18 rounds on tap, with 2 extra magazines, I doubt I will quickly run out of ammo. Also, 9mm is easier to shoot accurately, as is a full size handgun, also, a longer barrel when compared to a compact handgun = better velocity and better target acquisition and recovery times.
