The Dallas Morning News’ Endorsement of Hillary Clinton is a Damning Indictment of the GOP

The Dallas Morning News's endorsement of Hillary Clinton is a big deal - not just because it is in and of itself, but because of the reasons they gave. The grown-ups are leaving the GOP tent. …………..

    http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/editorials/20160907-we-recommend-hillary-clinton-for-president.ece
Oh, it’s only been since before World War II that the Dallas Morning News recommended a Democrat for president, but this fine Wednesday morning that is exactly what happened, in spite of the paper’s obvious Republican leanings. Yes, that’s 75 years. It’s been 75 years since they recommended a Democrat for president.

The Dallas Morning News announced this morning that there is only one serious candidate and because of that, they recommend Hillary Clinton for president…………..

Keep up the good work Donald………

Please. Bear in mind that the endorsement of a newspaper editor is only one opinion and no more important that your own.

I especially liked the way they took the PARTY to task, rather than just Trump. In the 1980s Reagan was a man frequently in over his depth according to most experts who knew the situation both then and now. But he had been selected by a party that valued integrity and good will and so had plenty of both those characteristics both in himself and in the talents of people he could call on. He became, IMO, one of our best Presidents this way.

The Republican party of today is interested in one thing only, ideological purity, and if it must lie, cheat and appeal to the lowest human qualities of bigotry and xenophobia, along with the use of so much blatant slander as to appear ridiculous, it is more than willing to do so to promote that. This has now come to the point where it seems now to actually prefer those methods rather than appeals to our better natures and these methods are now backfiring on them rather badly. It will hopefully result in their well-deserved end as a viable political entity very soon.

I'm sure they got together with the whole entire crew from the paper printers to the editors and said "Hey guys, who wants to endorse Hillary, say aye!" And I bet it has nothing to do with the democratic affiliate station that bought The Dallas Morning News. YOU keep up the good work, Professor imyoda.

Dramatic Irony - a literary technique, originally used in Greek tragedy, by which the full significance of a character's words or actions are clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the character.

Meanwhile, the Huffington Post (thought it was left-leaning?) ran an article titled A Vote For Hillary Clinton Is A Vote For Wars Against Russia, China, Others

An editorial endorsement of a candidate IS NOT the work of one person. The editorial staff makes decisions like this. And anyone who does not see the endorsement of Hillary Clinton by a newspaper like the Dallas Morning News as very big news...is missing something imp;ortant.

It is about like the New York Times or the Washington Post endorsing Donald Trump.

No it's not. It's about like The Shreveport Times endorsing a candidate.

What then? The collective opinion of a handful of newspaper men or maybe the owner of the paper. They are the opinions of a few that carry no more weight than what you hear in the barber shop.

You don't think at least a good part of the readers will follow the opinion? Isn't that usually how people are influenced in democracies?
You think that barbers manage to reach as many people as newspaper editorials? That's a bit silly.
You can of course always discuss the individual merits behind the editorials... That's been part of the cultural sphere for as long as newspapers have existed.

Only in the mind of people who do not know newspapers.

The Dallas Morning News is one of Americas largest newspapers...probably rated in the top ten in circulation....certainly within the top twenty.

And considering its history of endorsements...it is mind-boggling that it endorsed Hillary Clinton and said what it did about the Republican candidate.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Yeah, sure.

In your mind the opinions of the editorial staffs of America's largest newspapers carry no more weight than what one hears in a barber shop.

    You must be a conservative.

Do you think that endorsements amount to a wheel barrow of spit ?

Please understand the implications and impact of a devoutly Republican newspaper breaking its traditional direction to go the polar opposite. This has a reason behind it.

I think it amounts to a damning amount of damage to Donald Trump...who so richly deserves it.

I dont care who put it in the paper, it is a big deal.

It wont make anyone vote for Hillary, but you can bet your arse there are righties in Dallas who will stay home because of articles like this.

In politics, everything matters .... sady

    Truer words were never spoken:

I'll leave the "sadly" part aside.

Both Dallas and Dallas County has shifted in elections from Republican to Democrat. The Dallas newspaper equally shifted to basically endorse the majority of their subscribers. No surprises there.

Dallas is like many American major metro areas. Democrat core city with large Republican suburbs. The Republican suburbs around Dallas have their own newspapers.

No one will stay home because of this. Rather, a few people will cancel their subscriptions, nothing else. The DMN is now a money loser like most major newspapers.http://bizbeatblog.dallasnews.com/2...enue-stabilize-as-digital-revenue-grows.html/

I explained the reason. The DMN is a dying newspaper for which Dallas and Dallas County has gone Democrats in elections. However, all population growth is in the huge Republican suburbs. They all have their own newspapers.

Would an endorsement for Trump by a newspaper change your vote?

A few people will cancel there subscriptions, a few people will call in to yell at the editor, a few people will agree and vote for Hillary and yes, A FEW people will stay home.

I agree with your last statement, papers have a fraction of the influence they used to and thats a good thing in most cases.

That was one of the low points...in a campaign that had lots of 'em.

I am enjoying this election more than I imagined...but I will be delighted when it is a part of history.

    Me? No.

But if my mothers local newspaper went against her ideals I know she would think carefully on her next move. Older people have a lot of influence from their paper, I have been shocked bt my mother as she proudly parades all the editors remarks here in So Cal that bash Hillary, there are quite a few actually.

Do I think it will change the outcome? No, CA will go left and TX will go right. But it definitely matters

The print media is almost out of business. I agree.

But the editorial opinions of major newspapers, of which the Dallas Morning News is one, MATTERS.
