That is an example how your point of live in the county is not a valid one.

People are (*)(*)(*)(*)ed already with the low wages that are around. That low that the government gives them foodstamps. Or in other words: the government helps out companies paying rediculous low wages by giving away hand outs. That communist policy needs to go, hence wages need to go up. That companies end up earning less, and the managers won't be having their bonusses, is just something they need to deal with. In the end, there is plenty of money going around in the US, so it should not be such a problem at all. As an example, the CEO of coca cola rose with 20% last year and got over 25 million, dispite that the company wasn't doing worse. He can do with less. And if you're one of them Alt-right fans: that muslim immigrant can do with less.

Make no mistake about this, I am liberal, especially when it comes to the helping those less fortunate. But I'm also a pragmatist. The real problem is not minimum wage. Most people making the minimum are part-time and would love full-time employment with benefits but they just are deliberately in short supply. We need more full-time jobs available with benefits. Speaking of benefits, the only way employers will be able to meet the $15/hr minimum is to completely cut benefits, especially health. These people want to cut off their nose to spite their face.

We use temps on some of our remote jobs, but they are pretty much useless. They refuse to work hard. I suppose that's why they are temps. They wouldn't work any harder for $15/hr. Usually, I'd rather just do all the work myself instead of dealing with them.

My point is that I made less than $15/hr and worked my butt off, even after finishing college. Of course, that was 20 years ago.

The county is cheaper. It's a fact, deal with it. I didn't say all people needed to move there. Your just putting words in my mouth like a good neoliberal.

Around here people don't need food stamps if they are making less than $15 an hour. Especially if they work full time. If you're older than 18 and not making more than minimum wage it's probably your own fault. $15 hr minimum would cause major problems around here but the neoliberal hubris tells them they know better. Not every business has the money of Coke. Plus Coke will just redesign their systems to do away with low skilled labor even faster with a $15 minimum wage.

As I noted previously. I'm not interested in what applies to the few, but in the bulk. To rant on about moving to the county is simply still not a valid option and so totally irrelevant.

Again. Not intrested in some mythical alleged problem somewhere in the countryside that only might apply for the few ignoring the bulk.

In the US as a whole, there simply is plenty of money that goes around.

I don't live in the country or the county. But keep sticking your fingers in your ears, it's part of the reason the left has lost so big. You guys think you're r so smart you don't need to listen to others. It's why I'm going to enjoy watching Trump rub your nose in it.

As a whole doesn't matter to the guy who just lost his job to a kiosk or an illegal

Sit home and starve? So you are claiming that jobs would not exist without temp agencies? Please, I have heard these same stale justifications for lousy trade deals and illegal aliens. The bottom line is companies do not hire people out of kindness. They hire because they need someone. They hire as low wage as they can. These temp services provide cheap labor while making money off the backs of workers. People take whatever they can get because of a flooded labor market.

We have seen wages stagnant now for decades. The middle class is shrinking and people are leaning more and more toward socialism.

I just want the system to exist as it is for a few more years. Then I will be perfectly setup for socialism. Me and my comrades will usher it in. It will be glorious to drain the wealth while getting a free ride.

So keep on with rooting for a declining middle class. Hope it works out for ya. Perhaps you can find another summer job.

You sticking your fingers in your ears about the bulk of the population.
I'm just sticking my fingers in my ears about the few living in the countryside.
Yeah you say that while support that communist way of supporting hand outs for the working man to make ends meet.

Blame the government and employers for making it possible for illegals to find jobs.

either the people can earn a living or they will have to live off the government.. if the people can't support themselves even while working, they will revolt

Have I ever said the bulk of the population lives in the county? Or are you just making assumptions to argue against? City life here is cheaper than county living in other states. Like I said stick your finbgers in there real tight, wouldn't want anything competing against that liberal dogma. $15 an bar is to high for this area and will cause a major problem for a lot of smaller employers.

Where have I said I support anything communist? Another failed assumption perhaps.

Oh I do blame government and business for the current illegal immigration situation.

Like I said stick your fingers in there real tight and keep ignoring the bulk of the population that has nothing to do with the countryside.

You wrote "it's part of the reason the left has lost so big" and with that assuming I am left wing. So right back at ya, where did I say I support left wing? So far you're countering the status quo of communist subsidized minimum wage with the argument that this helps a handful of people living in the countryside, ignoring the bulk of the population in the cities.

Well you're still purposely ignoring the bulk of the population. And I time and time again noted that an hypothetical situation of handful of people living in the countryside is rather irrelevant since the bulk live in cities.

Clearly it's on purpose because no where have I argued that a majority doesn't live in an urban setting. Good grief dude learn how to comprehend what people write instead of what you want them too

Oh, you work for a temp agency? That's cool. I've worked through a few, all many moons ago now, doing industrial work of different sorts. The wages you specify, $9.50 and $11.00/hr, are barely above, if at all above, what I got those many years ago, and I'm talking mid 2000s and earlier. It's why I say that wages are stagnant in America while costs of living continue to rise. Given that, I can fully appreciate this "fight for 15". It might lead to some increased automation in some jobs, but overall it would simply mean forcing wages up everywhere. With a $15 minimum wage, other positions would also go up to stay ahead and remain more competitive on the market.

As for companies being able to compete... #1, if this applies to all companies, then competition among companies is not really an issue. All will be forced to raise prices, potentially at least, to cover, and so none will really lose out. #2, if we get Trump's planned massive tax cuts, then companies will actually have more funds available for paying those higher wages in the near future, right?

Here's a fact. If you are paying less than people need to not qualify for food stamps then your business is being subsidized with MY taxes. Why should I be compelled to subsidize your business? And please, no "teary-eyed pathos ridden rhetoric" about small businesses and how "mom and pop" are the "backbone of our country" okay?

One of the reasons I'm going to ignore your replies concerning this is that you do not know how to read. I never said I work for a temp agency. I'm an executive at a company that has a temp division. We also do research. The wages I quoted are above average for temp workers in Southeastern WI. After that, all you are saying is the same emotional diddly-squat I've heard others of your ilk constantly repeat....just opinions. I make decisions based on research, data and FACTS, not political rhetoric or non-verifiable opinions. I've no time for that. Want to make a point? Ditch the pathos and substantiate what you say with facts. The strike by service workers at O'Hare in Chicago hasn't exactly touched off a national concern for a $15/hr minimum wage.

Sorry, it sounded to me like you were placing temps from what you wrote. Please don't get mad at my mistake.

And I'm not speaking from emotion, but from my own experience. Last factory job I quit, I was at $10.20/hr as a full-time employee. It was not a good wage to try and live independently on even then. Now, for me, it wasn't cause to go try and get a higher wage out of the factory, but rather an impetus to return to school and get better work, which is what I did.

LOL! I am like everyone else, just looking out for number 1. For you it is getting a summer job while the middle class takes a dive. For me I just need a few more years of prosperity then I will be ready to mooch off the government while those with summer jobs pay my way. Thanks for all the fish!

If people do not like our terms of employment, they don't have to work for us. Very simple. If no one wants to work for us at the stated wage then the service we provide gets discontinued. We don't do government work ergo you don't have to worry yourself about tax dollars. What employees do outside of their job is none of our business. This is called Free Enterprise. It's an amazing concept.

Good for you. Regardless, robotics is coming. So we are going to see mass uprisings by the dumbest in society who work the most menial jobs. This new cycle is going to be nasty because the dumbest people also tend to be more prone to violence. Think Luddites on steroids.

The first big hit will be driverless trucks. Those who drive trucks make a good wage compared to average workers, and this is a huge segment of the economy. Driverless trucks will replace all of them within 10 years. And those jobs will never come back. People who cannot learn and improve their skills are really going to be in a world of hurt. But that's life. You have to adapt to survive. Robots will eventually make life better for everyone though. You can have your own robot to do gardening for you, cooking, cleaning, medical needs, and so on. But there will be disruption in route to that end.

    Thanks for bringing that up; "driverless vehicles." There are big dollars behind that. Autonomously controlled trains are coming next. People are losing jobs and a mandatory $15/hr minimum wage is a human job killer. Heck, even in Seattle where the city passed a law that by 2021, all city employers must pay $15/hr. Here's an early study on its effects;

July 25, 2016 - Minimum Wage Study: Effects of Seattle wage hike modest, may be overshadowed by strong economy. - This report is incomplete.
