LONDON — A Dutch court found anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders guilty Friday of insulting an ethnic group and inciting discrimination after he led chants against Moroccans, a conviction he promptly denounced as “madness.”

Wilders, the controversial leader of the Netherlands’ far-right Freedom Party (PVV), said he plans to appeal the verdict delivered by a panel of three “hating” judges. His party is leading in polls ahead of the country’s upcoming general election in March.

“Three PVV hating judges declare that Moroccans are a race and convict me and half of the Netherlands. Madness,” he wrote in a Twitter message after the verdict.

In March 2014, Wilders sparked outrage at a rally in The Hague after asking supporters whether they wanted more or fewer Moroccan immigrants in the Netherlands.

After the crowd chanted, “Fewer! Fewer!” Wilders responded: “We’re going to organize that.” More than 6,400 people filed official complaints to the police, a sampling of which were read out in court.

The court imposed no punishment on Wilders, saying the conviction was punishment enough. The prosecution wanted to impose a fine of 5,000 euros ($5,28.

The “inflammatory” way statements were made at the rally encouraged others to discriminate against Moroccans, the court said, but they found there was “insufficient evidence” to convict Wilders of a separate charge of inciting hatred.

Wilders, 53, is one of a number of populist politicians across Europe who are riding a tide of anti-establishment anger, fueled in part by concerns over immigration and sluggish economies. The flamboyant Dutch politician has been compared to Donald Trump, and sometimes uses the hashtag #MakeTheNetherlandsGreatAgain. On election night in the United States, he wrote on Twitter: “The people are taking their country back, so will we.”

If he becomes the next Dutch prime minister, Wilders has vowed to ban the Koran, close mosques and Islamic schools and stop immigration from Muslim countries. He has also said would support a “Nexit” referendum, with the hopes that the Netherlands would follow Britain’s example and vote to leave the European Union.

Wilders boycotted much of the trial, but during a court appearance Nov. 23, he said that he had a right to free speech and accused rival politicians of conducting a “witch hunt.”

Wilders has also said the conviction would do little to silence him.

“Millions of Dutch are sick and tired of political correctness,” he said with his usual rhetorical flair in a video posted Friday on YouTube. “You can count on one thing, I will never be silent.”

 

And Europe wonders why it is dying.

 

The anti free speech laws of democrat socialist western European nations reminds one of the Soviet Union in it's hay-day.

Best not tell him his ancestry tracks back to Africa although maybe he'd then sport an afro, which would be an improvement.

National Sovereignty/Safe-spaces aren't the same thing. I'm all for LEGAL immigration(and especially as pointed out, in a controlled fashion.) There isn't a country on earth that could take a major flux of immigration without having an eventual economic crunch. Just not enough resources in a world of 7 billion people.

The segregated countries are the best way for all peoples to survive, and thus their best interests.

He dyes his hair, to hide the fact that he's not a 100% Caucasian. The knobhead is a product of the multi-cultural society that he hates, with his Indonesian heritage (the worlds biggest muslim nation, and has a democratically elected government). Hence also his eyes.

 

Judges in the Netherlands aren't part of the liberal establishment. They got nothing to do with politics or politicians. You can't vote on them like in the US. They are an independent institution who judge the law according to what politicians make of it. Wilders has been part of that liberal establishment for decades.

 

Geert is a HUGE fan of Israel.

 

He is a Jewish Zionist operative for Israël who dyed his hair blonde to look more European.

 

I meant politicians - they're the law-makers. And Wilders doesn't strike me as being of the liberal establishment, rather a right wing malcontent.

Maybe you need to read up Wilders political career on wikipedia to realize he is part of the liberal establishment. The guy is a fraud. He hides his multi cultural heritage so he can yap around his white power themed speeches, just like he is neverminding that he was part of the party currently liberal governing from 1989 till 2004... voting in whatever. His wife is a freaking non western immigrant as well.

 

I suspect Geert Wilders represents what happens when kids get damaged, the damage goes unacknowledged and unresolved, and suddenly someone who appears to be an adult shows up but still with all the attendant childhood trauma going on in the background. There's no shortage of these damaged adult children, they appeal to other damaged adult children, too.

"Hatred" is the very subjective basis on which free speech is banned
and therefore it isn't all that free.

The Netherlands
literally is a Democratic Socialist nation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_socialism .

And the Soviet Union had stringent censorship laws that made self criticism of it illegal, not unlike the Netherlands when it comes to immigration and the
problems that come from imposing one culture upon another.
