Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign: Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. Butter and honey shall He eat, that He may know to refuse the evil and choose the good. KJV https://www.biblegateway.com/verse/en/Isaiah+7:15 If Jesus God needs to be careful about his food so that he be able to chose the Good.... Are we the weak humans need not to make the same thing too? Even Jesus was tempted by the Devil, so it appears that Jesus lived a full human life and he practiced the laws of spirituality that any normal human being should do to reach enlightenment...
Probably not. They shared the same pantheon of gods early on. The Canaanites were more urban and involved in mining, metallurgy and pottery making,, whereas the Hebrews seem to have been landless Bedouin. - - - Updated - - - The evidence is found in Ras Shamra in Ugarit.
The 'butter and honey' verse is open to various interpretations, for example they were common foods for humans and honey was one of the only sources of sugar in those days, so Isaiah could have been underlining the fact that the Son of God would be in human form and eating the same stuff as everybody else. If eating butter and honey was vital for spiritual enlightenment, why didn't Jesus say so, and why isn't it one of the 10 Commandments? Personally I eat anything I fancy including meat and butter, but I don't really like dollops of honey as I get sugar from other sources.. PS- the Bible okays meat- "And one of the Pharisees asked Jesus if he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat" (Luke 7:36) "Do not eat meat raw or cooked in water, but roast it over the fire-head, legs and inner parts" (Exo 12:9) "Moses then said to Aaron and his sons, "Cook the meat at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and eat it there with the bread from the basket of ordination offerings, as I commanded." (Lev 8:31) "You may slaughter your animals in any of your towns and eat as much of the meat as you want, as if it were gazelle or deer, according to the blessing the Lord your God gives you" (Deut 12:15) "He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his attendant" (1 Kings 19:21) "On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine- the best of meats and the finest of wines" (Isaiah 25:6)
QUOTE BY ASUKIA Those supposed experts knew about the prophets mentioned. The writer has written a load of nonsense, and this shows his lack of understanding. The Pharisees were not talking about prophets that had been, they are saying that no prophet is prophecied to come from Galilee at that time. The last prophet had been hundreds of years earlier. None were expected - therefore Jesus could not be a prophet. Daniel is not considered a prophet in Judaism. He is considered a 'visionary' (one who received divine inspiration) rather than prophet (one who received prophecy).
We where talking that Isaiah and Jesus could be the only two whom in the bible are Canaanites from Essen sect, that sect is a vegetarian sect. Isaiah not only said that Jesus or Emmanuel will eat butter and honey, please do not ignore the other part of the prediction, but he also said SO THAT HE MAY REFUSE EVIL AND CHOOSE GOOD... Now coming to Isaiah he was a vegetarian and he condemned animal sacrifices or killing and its in the bible... Jesus was a merciful soul, he was enlightenment and all creations are dear to him not only human ego. If you where born as a chicken in this creation, if God chose that I or you be a chicken, our lived would be much more important then of a humans...because every being thinks he is the most important of all especially humans... These have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations;” The statement of Isaiah is backed in the Acts 15:29 from the New Testament.“You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.” Isaiah 1:11 - 16 "The multitude of your sacrifices-- what are they to me?" says the LORD. "I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals; I have no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats. New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations-- I cannot bear your evil assemblies. Your New Moon festivals and your appointed feasts my soul hates. They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood; wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong!.”
No offence mate, but are you a Jehovah's Witness? I know they have dietary fads, for example they won't eat Christmas cakes and birthday cakes because they think they're pagan. This verse clinches the whole "what shall we eat" thing for me- God said- "Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything" (Genesis 9:3) so if you don't agree with God you'd better argue it out with him when you meet him.. However from time to time God had to warn people to lay off certain foodstuffs at certain times, perhaps because livestock disease was going around, but those verses are now well past their sell-by dates and we can tuck into whatever we fancy.. If you think eating butter and honey will give people spiritual enlightenment, where does that leave me? I like butter but I never touch honey..
If you wanna take one part and leave the other you are contradicting yourself.. I mean you agree with the Virgin Prediction of Isaiah but not with the Butter and honey he shall eat SO THAT HE MAY REFUSE EVIL and Chose the GOOD... so ?! I believe Jesus is Canaanite and that Isaiah was so too, and I dont believe in the Old Testament book... I am not a Jehovah Witness in fact I Oppose Yahweh Rule... I am with EL.. The Old testament is like ISIS... Jews invaded Canaanite lands and they justified it that GOD asked them to do it...I dont believe in a God that seeks blood.. I am with Mercy love and let us all get along thing... If my God ask me to kill a Jew or any other human or animal I will leave that God... - - - Updated - - - He was a Vegetarian just like Buddha, Pythagoras, Zoroaster and Akhenaton the Sun Worshiping religions...
While Jesus loved to pig out on bread and figs he also chowed down on fish, lamb shanks, and wine to the point that he was known as a wine bibber and glutton. Luke 22:7-9 (CEV) = Jesus Eats with His Disciples 7 The day had come for the Festival of Thin Bread, and it was time to kill the Passover lambs. 8 So Jesus said to Peter and John, “Go and prepare the Passover meal for us to eat.” 9 But they asked, “Where do you want us to prepare it?” Matthew 11:19 (NLT) = The Son of Man, on the other hand, feasts and drinks, and you say, ‘He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!’ But wisdom is shown to be right by its results.”
Then why he fed the 5,000 with fish and bred and ate fish after he rose from the dead? Not only that but he celebrated Passover which requires you to eat lamb (my favorite).
It was a fish weed,.. Not fish some researcher was proving that the miracle was not Fish...and that Palestinians used to eat fish-weed with bread at that time..
Jesus didnt eat lamb....He celebrated by drinking wine and eating bread ... in the bible no mention of Jesus eating an animal... translations took a lot of part in errors...
Palestinians didn't eat fishweed.. They ate yogurt, chic peas, lamb, fish, figs, dates, almonds, olives, pomegranates, onions etc........
Jesus is reckoned to have died at the age of 33. Apart from the early years, during weaning, he will have celebrated MANY passovers at which Lamb was the essential remembrance of their 'supposed' delivery from Egypt. Several Jewish Festivals are based on mythical stories. The Passover (1 day) Feast of unleavened bread (7 days), Sukkot celebrating the supposed wanderings in the desert and Purim concerned with mythical Esther. Other Festivals are adaptations of older festivals before the Hebrews existed. Shavout is Harvest (in modern terms). This was also practise earlier by other nations.
You are ignoring all the facts about Isaiah and only making a guess.. What about the life of Isaiah and John the Baptist he didnt eat meat even James the brother of Jesus (As he is always called so not saying he is biologically related)... Isaiah was vegetarian he said who ever kills an animal is a murderer.. Jesus is of the same line as Isaiah...he was the one Predicted by Isaiah and his diet also was predicted if the diet was not important why would Isaiah relate in one verse the Virgin prediction of the Prince of Peace with what the food does to a man... even Einstein said that meat is destructive for the human mind..
Jesus didn't die.. He was resurrected like the Phoenix... Saying Jesus died is like saying he is not the Prince of Peace. Lord God.
So god suddenly comes along and tells man that killing animals is murder when man has been doing it for at least tens of thousands of years. Isaiah says that killing animals is murder, but God killed many Egyptian animals in a plague at the supposed 'exodus'. What's the difference? The Egyptian animals weren't guilty of anything. God tells the Hebrews to kill lambs, use the blood to mark the doorposts and eat the meat. And then to do it yearly to celebrate Passover. So Jesus would be following Gods commands - not Isaiahs ideas. The Bible is contradictory is so many things. Isaiah does not predict Jesus. Isaiah is all about Israel - referred to as God's servant throughout the OT and Isaiah. It's always been believed that Isaiah was written by one man. More likely 2 far apart in time. We don't know that Isaiah was of any particular line. We are not told. You base your beliefs on a few words from a book. You need to study the whole period of the time and Jewish practices.
I know. I think Jesus was simply a Jewish preacher given divinity by the disciples. If you have proof otherwise many of us would like to see it.
Isaiah is not talking about Jesus.. He's talking about Israel, the suffering servant. John the Baptist didn't eat vegetables.. He lived in the wilderness where there were no vegetables. He ate locust just like Arabs still ear locusts.
Evidence? And you still need to explain the Passover. - - - Updated - - - What are you talking about? - - - Updated - - - He celebrated Passover. The guidelines of celebrating Passover is the consumption of lamb as dictated in the Old Testament.
