Really? Maybe and I will not start any cleaned statistic dispute, but look on at how many cases was religion a matter of dispute too. The grey area of Political and religious is often large ... one older example is the 30 yeas War in Germany and neighboring areas of other countries of 1618 - 1648 which costs about 8 - 10 million peoples life = 40% of total population! Started as dispute between Protestants and Catholics it changed to be a full political one several countries involved in it!

Today Germany has a population of about 80 million and 40-50% of them are 30-40 million people!
