Lets take one agency of the Fed government, the EPA that has 16000 employees. Logic says that now all the rules and regulations are in place that we have now, having that many b'crats are no longer needed. IMO the agency could be cut down to more than a couple thousand to maintain the regulations. That number could easily handle any new regulation that might be needed for new inventions and technology.

This is exactly what is wrong with a huge bureaucracy, if they dont produce new unneeded abusive regulations, it indicates they are not necessary. And they ARE NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The number of federal employees is declining and is at the lowest level since 1966 you are creating a fake problem

    Or...perhaps they ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally think the government should be the employer of last resort. We do not seem to have enough decent paying jobs for everyone who needs and wants one...so even if the jobs are made-work...they are jobs and people are being paid to perform them.

As a general rule, I believe it's a good idea to push government functions down to the lowest level at which it makes sense to have them. Which is why I say education concerns and the like should be pushed to the states. In addition, I think it's a good idea to reduce regulations. The creation and enforcement of regulations has become a self sustaining function of government, and because government doesn't operate within a normal market-driven paradigm, the inefficiencies that become built in to the system are simply staggering. The less government involvement in our lives, the better.

I would generally agree with you but the problem is you have Southerners that want to create a fake world around slavery and Jim Crow

    Quit making things up.

"President Obama will set a record for the size of the basic federal workforce, leaving office with more than 1.4 million people collecting government salaries in the civilian agencies in 2017, according to the budget he delivered to Congress on Tuesday."

Some people do not want to be governed at all.

The comment, "The less government involvement in our lives, the better" is a mantra that essentially embodies that notion...it is the natural progression of it.

    I think it is bunk.

Yes, but fortunately the power of racist Southern Democrat politicians has mostly been eliminated by their election defeats, though racist Democrats do control some Southern cities just like in the North and West Coast.

The goal of every department and agency in government is always to increase their staffing, budget and power.

When I got out of the service in early 70s I got a job planting trees in clearcuts in Oregon. Three pickup loads of Forest service inspectors came out every day to check our work. They would sit around the fire for a couple hours and then all run out and throw a plot.(dig up a few trees and see if they were properly planted). Then they would go back to their fire a couple more hours. One or two men could have worked steady and arrived in one pickup but that's not the government way. Yes we need to drastically reduce the government work force.

More fake news. Show us the real number of EPA employees. Including meat inspectors, which we could use more of. How many Americans die every year from tainted food? Do some research.

It wasn't a comment it was fact from a reliable source. Quit making things up.

America really only needs Trump instead of the media and Trump to oversee the rest, and maybe a toilet licker, like Bannon, and that's it.

Your point apparently is that government is inefficient in some areas.

Walmart, Exxon Mobile, Apple, General Motors, Ford, and AT&T...are all inefficient in some areas.

Replace as many humans with machines is the best way to deal with that.

    But there are consequences.

In any case, since there is so much opposition to the notion of seeing that everyone has enough of the necessities of life without having to work for it, the government should be the employer of last resort.

Yeah, you will get a lot of waste.

My point is as a rule government hires two or three times the people needed to do the job and there's plenty of room to cut the payroll

It's an article from the Washington times and it proves you are making things up or just horribly misinformed, which is it?

    Well...I suggest that is hyperbole.

But even if they did...since we want everyone to "work" in order to live...and since the private sector is not producing enough jobs paying a living wage...why not allow the government to do it?

Inefficiency is never efficient and jobs where you just basically show up are welfare in disguise and reminiscent of mafia-union tactics. It's also a way for the DNC to fund itself by creating an entire class of people dependent on bloated government for their jobs so of course they vote appropriately.

    Oh, my..."inefficiency is never efficient!"

    An observation for the ages!

Ahhh...those guys you encountered out in the forest were just welfare recipients...in disguise.

Tell us, where those three truckloads of "inspectors" disguised as white guys...maybe even educated white guys?

Why does it prove hes making things up?

Why is your source better than his?

Are you sure you want to go down this road? It may entail extra work for you.

My favorite part of shutdowns, only "non-essential" employees are sent home. My question, "why do we even have 'non-essential' employees?

No it is still a problem. Trump could cut 25% of Fed employees, and they wouldnt be missed at all.
