FWIW, my wife who is 5' and 120 lbs soaking wet did it for YEARS side by side with her female coworkers. And that was back in the day where she made just a little more than minimum wage, maybe $1 over, she loved her job, still does. Now they separate the customer service people from the ramp so she's off the hook from the real heavy lifting but still lifts bags daily.

So yes, at airports across the USA today, legal immigrants and goold old fashioned citizens are loading and unloading planes rain or shine, and many (the unlucky ones) of them are doing it for wages very close to minimum. we don't need 50K a year to do it, but if it pays 50K nobody is going to complain except corporate america who realized that they can outsource and let a contracting company pay crap wages with LEGAL employees that pass background checks and random drug testing because its a semi-skilled job.

Great. They don't produce anything that can be sold and they don't therefore pay their own way with production. That's probably more than $1billion/year.

 

Illegal workers ARE NOT needed for those jobs. There are Temporary Worker Visas specifically aimed at agricultural jobs. They are not difficult to get and they can actually help the worker onto the path for a greencard. All legal!

In my area it was the resorts and casino industry that went corporate and began using coyotes to bring in workers in front of locals who had always done the work. Actually, some businesses are under contract to "outsoursers" and would not consider an application from a local.

I find it quite odd that the left now thinks that is unacceptable.

I mean, there have to be intellectually honest psychotherapists pondering that dilemma as we speak.

 

If I implied I was for illegals I apologize. I'm for legal MIGRANT workers, that come for a short period for work and then return home.......all legally.

 

Higher wages means more jobs send overseas. The higher the wages are here, the more companies use Chinese sweatshops. The only way this would work is if we broke off free trade with China and banned all US companies from importing sweatshop made products.

 

The wages that will go up will apply only to specific businesses at which the wages are artificially low and will rise naturally back to reasonable capitalistic levels. As opposed to national wage increase which effects all businesses to an artificially high level. So no, prices to consumers won't go up to an unnatural level. But American businessmen will be able to compete on a more equal playing field. And more American citizens will get off welfare, go to work and join the tax base. That's just for starters. Not to mention the burden lifted from schools, hospitals, emergency rooms, law enforcement, and the removal of the general babel effect across the board from businesses that are weary of playing charades and making up sign language just to talk to customers who only know how to smile, shake their heads affirmatively and say jes.

 

Imagine the black unemployed working, more housing for them, lower crime and taxes lowered. Hmm... that wouldn't be bad at that.

 

Not if taxes and regulations are eased and the overall cost of business is reduced.

 

How about a far less expensive and intrusive government. Then it won't need so much money to operate.
