Motivate me to work, someone, I have a 2.000-word essay/paper for Friday, haven't finished my plan yet and have spent the last half-hour reading old threads about communism.

 

I guess, but I do have an assembly to write, part of a French exam to do and the introduction to prepare for this seminar I'm chairing (it doesn't help that I spend the whole of last week getting ready for this insanely hard physics Olympiad thing and am now behind on everything else). Gahhh so busy you guys are acc so lucky to have finished school

I get that; I feel like nothing's ever enough sometimes. I think part of the problem is how we conceptualise work as something objectively and inevitably separate from, and even antithetical to, leisure and pleasure. The 9-5 culture doesn't help either (though here in Europe that seems to exist to a lesser extent than across the pond, for which I'm grateful). I guess you can start doing more of the stuff that's important to you now, especially if your workday is flexible and you're recognising that you want to do something more meaningful.

Now that your head is back out of the clouds I can see that it is clearly not an "airhead".

 

I'd put my old name in my signature or something. I just don't really like being 'PreteenCommunist' when I'm 15 and goodness knows what political label.

Ughhh talking about it makes me want to pass out from boredom. It's on Northern Ireland (a module in my international GCSE in history) and specifically on the failures to achieve peace during the period from 1969-1985. The actual question is on how far Sinn Fein was responsible for such failures. I don't think the conflict in Northern Ireland was that interesting or complex, as conflicts go; essentially it was a vicious circle of violence and retaliation, with a few deeper cultural and economic problems (as many as any conflict would have) but nothing really ground-breaking. Maybe it's just how it's taught; if there's one thing the education system excels at, it's taking interesting subjects and making them so boring that you want to stick an ice pick in the back of your head.

I just purchased an Animals CD last Saturday.I didn't want to because it
was $ 18.99 Iv'e bought new release CD's at Wal*Mart for $ 5 bucks.
But all I had of Eric Burton was 2 Animals LP's. And they were used.
Was I ever grateful.That - The Animals - CD has 22 selections.And out of the
first 10 they are all really good if not Great.
So I researched Eric Burton.He's Not from New Orleans but a Brit.
He's still alive and kicking and had a Legal battle for decades over the
use of his Bands Name - The Animals -. One of the original members { the drummer }
who left the band when they broke up after 5 years decided that it was He was
gave the band it's name.That started a legal battle that lasted for decades.
Meaning Eric Burton was forced after he got new band members to rename
his band - The New Animals - and - Eric Burton and the Animals - whenever he
cut an album or went on tour.

Peace would have probably been achieved rather quickly if Thatcher had not sent in the UK military to protect the Catholics from the wrath of the low land Scots that had dominated NI for what? 400 years? Of course, that would have involved another kind of bloodbath.

The conflict was ultimately settled when the threat of violence became serious enough to make the British give up. The IRA came very close to assassinating 2 PM's, and blowing up 10 Downing - peace followed. That's my take anyway. Put any of it in your paper and you will probably fail.

You will probably have to review some of the criticism of Sinn Fein from 69-85 and extract something you can run with for 2000 word. I do not envy you, but you always learn something unexpected when you are forced to research any conflict. If you find a few nuggets share them - 100 words or less.
