I grew up here in the USA with plenty of others who think this country is a democracy, while still others think it is a socialist country.

None of them are socialist as far as I know. I know my country (Sweden) is mostly capitalist.

Read what I wrote not what you want to argue with.

The video. It said socialism requires a government to take over production or something similar. The guy talked so fast it was hard to follow.

You are telling him what I (we) call myself and what I (we) ought to call myself? I assume that you've lived a great number of years in Scandinavia and are an expert on the subject? No, I'm not going to get petty and nit-picky I just don't like what you said. Or maybe it's the tone? But you probably didn't mean for it to come out that way.

I was trying to follow you. And according to what you said, all the little European countries are socialist. Now, if that wasn't what you meant, then what you meant is still a mystery.

Maybe my use of tense is the issue.

If I said instead "socialism would work in little European countries..." would that be clearer?

I assumed everyone knew that there are no socialist countries in Europe so I didn't think my possible misuse of tense would matter.

No one person is solely responsible for the success of any large company and therefore to argue that a select few should earn millions while the vast majority earn little is a ridiculous argument to make.

Yeah, but the general points about the ideologies are correct.

Yes, that would be clearer. And I know there has not yet been a successful, settled socialist country anywhere. Many have attempted to establish socialism but were unable to work out the effective methods. It's still "experimental" but good progress is being made by analyzing the failures and their errors in light of Marxist theory.

The issue of government's role is very important it turns out because that is what led to the failure of the effort in Russia and China.

What I am saying is no matter what they are called or what they call themselves; their policies reflect the ideology of social democracy rather than socialism.

If someone wants to have a conversation on a topic and not have me get all petty and nit-picky then maybe they should learn something about the subject themselves first.

I can't imagine pure socialism could ever exist in the foreseeable future without it being backed up by a capitalistic ally. Pure socialism doesn't mesh with human nature at this time.

Is Bernie Sanders the one who told Americans we were socialist in Sweden? I know nothing of him as he was gone from the presidential race by the time I moved to America and started really following your politics. He didn't get much media coverage in Sweden. Trump was like a wormhole. He sucked up all the foreign coverage.

I wanted a quick video about the topic; azureScapegoat has a better video but it is over ten minutes long.

That's where you're mistaken. You're drawing premature conclusions. All these years Cuba has not made much progress due to being isolated, but it didn't revert to capitalism in the absence of support by a capitalist country either.

Do you know about Germany, the USA, France, and Italy I believe, who united to attack Russia after WWII? As a capitalist country, the US has no interest in any socialist effort other than to undermine and destroy it.

I bet you meant a black hole. But about Bernie, ... he said he wanted to govern in the manner of FDR and his New Deal. He also said many European countries, like the Scandinavian countries, are Social Democratic countries.

That's possible. I'm just getting started with my college education.

I know nothing of Cuba other than its where the Cuban missile crisis was located so I won't get into a debate with you there.

Socialism doesn't need help. It can undermine and destroy itself. It's an ideal that doesn't mesh with human nature. Parts of the ideal are doable as long as capitalism is there to make it work.

That's not true. Capitalists want you to believe that, but socialism is more consistent with human nature than capitalism is.

I grew up watching American science fiction shows and I learned a lot of my English from them. Spaceships were always getting sucked into wormholes. I've always used "wormhole" but if you say it's "black hole" then you're probably right. I'm still using wormhole though :)

We will have to disagree then.
America is very successful and it's a capitalistic country so for now I feel my position is stronger.

I don't think capitalists want to start comparing kill counts with socialists.

    Capitalists will lose that argument.
