I am going to say it so all you fanboys can just pull up your pants and cover your eyes; The Godfather is an awful movie. Criminally overrated. I had never seen it and often people smeared me for it - "Oh mah Gawd, it is like totally the best movie ever made". Imdb rates it at 9, 2, so surely it has to be bloody friggen amazing. Today was the day I watched it and cannot really say I would regret life had I died without seeing it. An awful film. Long, boring, crappy dialogues, no action, confusing as hell and just horrendous. **** The Godfather!
Well it's a specific genre so if you don't like those types of movies then you will likely find it boring. I love the movie but I can certainly see how many folks wouldn't and I can also see how many would find it extremely boring. As far as being confusing....I don't really see how. I can call the movie a lot of things but confusing isn't one of them it's a pretty straight forward plot. New player in the game shows up wanting to start moving drugs but needs the Corleone family's resources to help. Godfather doesn't like drug so he says no. The new guy thinks the Godfathers son who is next in line for the throne would help him out. So he tries to kill the Godfather. That angers the hot headed son who goes after them. He gets killed. So the other son who wasn't a gangster then becomes Godfather instead and kills all of his enemies. The end. It's more in depth than that of course but thats the jist of it. Not too hard to follow.
The problem is exactly that it is not more in depth than that. It completely lacks in depth! Add to this, you do not get much background story to any character and therefore do not really connect to them. The confusing part is that the film just skips a few years "just like that" when he returns home from Sicilly.
Meh, those films had moments, and there were better and there were snooze parts too, I suppose all 4 films could have been edited and made into one film.
No action? Tell that to Luca when he got the knife in the hand, the Turk when he got the bullet in the head, Sonny at the toll booth, Sonny explaining to his brother in law not to hit his wife .... What do you call action? Nukes?
