President Trump still hasn't made one consequential deal. Not one.

It also makes it extremely difficult to reach a consequential deal on tax reform because the ACA is massively intertwined with the tax code. You can't reform the tax code without addressing the ACA. That's why Paul Ryan wanted to do it first.

At this point you might be thinking (because Trump told you what to think), "But isn't China helping us with North Korea?" And I would ask you to consider the fact that China has not only engaged in a much more aggressive stance to North Korea over the past several years, but that China reported that it's trade with North Korea was up 40% in the first quarter of this year.

And all of this failure occurred during the time period when Presidents are supposed to have the most political capital and the greatest ability to accomplish a campaign goal.

    http://theweek.com/articles/692146/president-trump-still-hasnt-made-consequential-deal-not

And now I invite you to tell me what you believe is a consequential deal that was actually enacted by Trump. For this challenge, I ask that you keep in mind that Trump claiming credit for something that was put into place months or years before he took office do not count. I also ask that you tell me how Trump made the deal (for example, Trump hasn't made a deal to cause the stock market to rise).

Or you can just hur dur about Trump still having 7 years to do something.

Has Congress passed ANYTHING to reach his desk? Is the existence of Donald Trump going to negate any blame or accountability whatsoever to CONGRESS? It's their job to write and pass legislation, if they cannot do this, then Americans can experiment with a third party candidate in House/Senate seats.

"President Trump still hasn't made one consequential deal"

Well, Tillerson, I am sure, will work out an oil deal with Putin and the money will flow.

You weren't expecting a deal for America, were you?
    Silly.

Repealing the ACA was Ryan's initiative, not Trump's.
Most polling said it was an unpopular move over large segments of swing state Trump supporters.
Having it die was more beneficial to Trump than having it pass.

The GOP voted to change the senate majority rules and got Niel Gorsuch nominated to the Supreme Court.

I'm British so can somebody tell me if Obamacare is a "disaster" as Don says?
He wanted to scrap it but was overuled by who exactly, members of his own party or the Democrats?
Obviously somebody must think Obamacare is fine and dandy, so who's right, them or Don?

Did you actually just say repealing Obamacare was not one of Trumps initiatives?

Like, with a straight face, did you actually type those words?

Do you believe in the honesty of Trump's words above his following his own self interest?

He's the one who repudiated other GOP candidates in the primary on medical care, saying something along the lines of "we won't let people die on the streets". Ryan and the Republicans in congress made repealing Obamacare their baby long before Trump took the stage. It was never super popular among Trump's own support base.

He didn't have to force the "repeal and replace" line, which by in large sank efforts in congress. If it had just been "repeal" the freedom lobby would've backed it.

Trump campaigns on the ability to make a deal. The individuals with whom he is required to reach a deal are unable to make a deal.

I don't make the argument that Congress is blameless. I make the argument that Trump is also to blame.

Are you trying to say that Trump (and his supporters) wanted to keep the ACA?

If this were a discussion of Trump's accomplishments, I'd give you the point. It's his lone accomplishment. But I don't see how Donnie made any type of deal in order for the Senate to change its rules.

Trump's own support base supports Trump above all else. Trump himself said that he was going to repeal and replace the ACA on day 1. That was a promise which, like the overwhelming majority of his "day one" promises got pushed to the wayside because he was too busy lying about the size of the crowds of the national lawn. And his support base loved him for that promise. But I guess when Trump made a new promise, his support base had to support his new promise?

If you paid a hefty fine, it's because you earn enough money to afford health insurance without a tax subsidy and chose not to purchase it. That's not you refusing free ****. That's you refusing to spend money and contributing to the system in another manner.

It's falling apart. The establishment republicans tried to pull a fast one, but the tea partier base didn't feel it went far enough.

I didn't see an answer to your post so I'll provide you one.

Yes, Obamacare is a disaster. It was a poorly written law that none of the legislators read before passing and it took every political trick in the books to pass. Insurance cost went up for everyone other than the very poor, and every year it gets more expensive with less coverage. My cost has risen 120% and I have the less coverage than I have ever had. Insurers are pulling out and some people have just one choice for coverage. It is imploding.

Republicans have been winning power since Obamacare was passed. They have won by promising a repeal of the law. They now have full power and failed to agree on a solution in this past session. Democrats are non supportive of repeal.

Yes some like Obamacare. These people primarily consist of those getting free or near free health insurance, people that could not get insurance due to health conditions or people that are less affected or not affected by it all and put the welfare of the poor over the welfare of the middle class. And of course the politicians that use free stuff for votes support it as well.

This simply isn't true. His support based love him for the wall, for calling the media liars, and for MAGA. Fiscal conservatism was never Trump's core message.

I'm saying that many people in swing states that caused Trump to win the election were going to be directly hurt by repealing the ACA, that Trump was never a fiscal conservative hardliner. He always said it had to be "repealed and replaced", never simply repealed.

What benefit is there in dealing out in the public? It was under his leadership and as attributable to him as the failures in his administration.

Big test for Trump is coming up soon - can he help to hammer out a deal to keep the government open with Congress. If he can't, that Trump Rally is going to become a Trump Slump and he probably loses control of The Senate in 2018.
Trump can drop all the bombs he wants, build his wall, whatever - if the economy goes south, the Republicans suffer.

Lol...Since he's so good at making deals that lead to bankruptcy, that's probably a good thing.
The great orange hope is easy to understand.
He's really only interested in rigging the tax, regulatory and ethics watchdog systems to benefit and protect himself.
The rest is pure bullshit or petulant vendettas against anyone who is mean to him.
