    Corrections

A new physical imprisonment structure that is more humane for those that have committed felonies should be an outdoor facility in the fashion of having a large electrified fence with motion detection systems throughout the grounds. This along with GPS monitored bracelets and guards who are armed with lethal and non lethal weapons to use at their disgression. That including prisoner specific drop boxes that provide medications and food stipends in a monthly drop by helicopter at certain waypoints. This large area shall only have one entrance and exit where prisoners are notified of their time of release on their bracelets and if they are summoned to a waypoint or exit. The closing of private for profit prisons should be enacted and enforced because I personally deem them to be slave labor and a partial violation of the thirteenth amendment of the United States Constitution. Only the most violent criminals should be given the punishment of a current super maximum twenty four hour lockdown facility.

    Law Enforcement

It should be mandatory policy that within police departments throughout the United States (as specially cities), that all beat officers and above them in their hierarchy be involved in the creation and daily process of the local neighborhood watch community programs to prevent illegal activities and crime. This along with the ability to have transparency within local law enforcement collectives.

I think your system will lead to the inmates running the prison. What function do the prison guards perform? What happens when the wrong prisoners get hold of the food or medicine drops?

Maybe I'm not seeing it correctly, but your plan seems like it would introduce "Escape From New York" or "No Escape" or some other island prison movie. The prison from "The Running Man" sounds similar to your description. Anybody who tried to escape would trigger their collar to explode.

I have ideas for prison reform, but I'll wait until your idea runs it's course in this thread. Maybe you could clarify it for me.

On your law enforcement side, you may be onto something. Cities in high crime areas should encourage neighborhood watch programs and have regularly scheduled "ride alongs" almost daily to keep the neighborhood informed and involved in cleaning up where they live.

The idea is to get the prisoners to become more independent. They will have to fend for themselves. There will be less room for gangs in that they will be to busy surviving to care. The other idea is I think it will cost much less for taxpayers. I haven't done any estimates but it currently cost around fourty thousand dollars to house someone per year. In this system it should cost much less leaving a prisoner at the end of their sentance having learned how hard it is to survive. And no explosive collars. Each prisoner will be assigned a small compartment in the drop that only they can open. So I Invision that certain prisoners will be notified at a time to control the amount of people coming to the drop point. I say if your things get stolen it's your own fault after that and you need to figure out how to survive. Also if you are hurt or killed that's apart of the harshness of this punishment system.

A better solution to deal with prisoners is to simply set up forced labour camps to ensure that each and every inmate there will work to pay for his own stay in prison. There should of course be different levels of severity to the camps, much like the existing differences in prisons. If you cannot behave like a normal Human being then you will not be considered Human anymore and therefor "Human Rights" should not apply to you anymore, in my opinion anyway. I think that if you can rape several childern you are nothing less of a monster, you are no longer Human. You should be send to a forced labour camp and be forced to work hard and live in miserable conditions for the rest of your life. Not a simple execution, no. This person should be beaten on a regular basis, live in miserable conditions and know nothing but hard work. If such an individual refuses to work he can be subjected to beatings by the guards. These people would exist to be worked to death over the years all the while paying for their own imprisonment and possibly even making a profit.

You would have less severe labour camps of course, if you've stolen something or gotten into a fight, or if you have been arrested for carrying drugs, car theft. Whatever, those milder offenses would be send to less severe camps in which they would still be forced to work but under less miserable conditions and with a focus on rehabilitation.

Prison sentences should also be much, much longer. The existence of a minimum of zero years in some countries is an absolute disgrace. There should be say an minimum of fifteen years for rape and with no given maximum. This way no matter how good your connections are (Like the rapist Brock Turner, I believe that was his name, whom only got a few months.) he would at best get fifteen years in prison.

This would serve as a good reminder to not break the law and to behave like a proper Human Being. It may not decrease crime by that much but that is not its prupose. The purpose of a punishment system like this is to ensure that proper justice is delivered. If you want to break the law then you are going to life the rest of your life wishing that you were dead. There are plenty of people that deserve to be rounded up and send of to work camps. If those people happen to die whilst there, all the better. They may even do your country a great service, providing very cheap labour. In a country like America with plenty of criminals, this would allow for large work projects. (Think of how Stalin used prisoners to build roads throughout Russia, amongst other projects.)

I'm sorry but i loled at most of that post, on that note i agree with you in most cases. The only thing i will add is that there should be life imprisonment for rape along with the possibility of execution. My construct could possibly have them living like feral animals ripping each other apart for all i care you know.

If you liked that you should look at the thread I made in the same sub-section as your thread.

OK. Here are my ideas on prison reform.

    1. Only days worked will count towards a sentence. A work week is 6 days of 8 hours/day.
    2. Prisoners will do their own laundry, grow crops, raise livestock, make their own soap, butter, etc....... Basic needs will be supplemented by the state.
    3. There will be no TV, gyms, etc...... Entertainment will be primarily books and whatever radio that the staff deems educational for the inmates. (classical, audio books, etc....)
    4. Lunch during the work day will be 2 or 3 cold sandwiches. (meat, cheese, mayo or pb&j, etc....)
    5. Prisons can provide labor to fulfill government contracts. They can build government furniture and license plates. (anything that will save the taxpayers money on the cost of government) They could be taught to build wind generators or assemble solar panels for government buildings.
    6. Educated prisoners can teach classes for English, history, math, etc..... Whatever is needed for inmates to get a GED. That can be their job to teach 8 hours/day 6 days/week.

Prison should be all about self sustainability. Those who refuse to work will be "shunned" by those who do work. Those not working will be in the general population. On Sunday, they can tell all of the workers how easy they have it while others work to grow their food. This will encourage lifers to work, since they have no other incentive to work. Prisoners will get work skills and will also want to avoid a return trip to prison. Depending on what jobs prisoners are doing, they could get some serious job skills. (electronics assembly, farm management, carpentry)

    Any comments or suggestions?

So a guy gets out of this prison having learned nothing but how to best survive in a lawless world, and this should prepare him for returning to our lawful one?

The second one sounds like a much better idea, but there is one paradoxical proviso about police work you shouldn't forget. The people who take to it the most enthusiastically are very often the last people you want in it.

I don't believe in parole. And I don't believe in appeals. If a death penalty decision is handed down, they can go right down the hall and do it. No waiting on death row for years while the rest of us support them.

If we are absolutely and totally positive the guy DID the crime I have to agree. However, I do think that detail is all-important, killing just one innocent person makes us as much murderers as the people we kill.

Parole is a necessary, functional and useful part of any prison system, rehabilitated people need to be out in society and taking care of themselves, not taking up our resources. Sentence lengths are necessarily very arbitrary and should be variable. By that same token I think we should be able to extend a sentence if no rehab has taken place, though that does open another whole can of worms.
