I am excited for the experimentation to begin.

the line up will continue to push our understanding of the universe and hopefully will lay the foundations for whole new energy technologies, and the possibility of new classes of materials.

    I think it's important research.

But I don't know if they'll find new things this time around.

With our understanding of science being crap, any experiments are likely to yield crap. For example, apparently if you have a particle heading in one direction at 99% the speed of light, and another particle heading from the other direction at 99% the speed of light toward the other, the two particles aren't heading toward each other at anything over the speed of light. But with cars, trains bullets or any two things heading toward each other at a certain speed, they are closing in toward each other at a combined speed of both. I wonder at what point science believes this simple logic no longer applies and why.

Physicists Find New Particle With a Double Dose of Charm
July 06, 2017 | WASHINGTON — Scientists have found an extra charming new subatomic particle that they hope will help further explain a key force that binds matter together.

Umm, it is you who are misunderstanding the property assignment of velocity. If I am running at you at 10 miles per hour and you are running at me at 10 miles per hour. We are closing the gap between us at 20 miles per hour, but my velocity is still 10 mph. I am not running faster because you are running at me. Yes, we add the two velocities together, they double, but neither object is traveling at that combined velocity. Just because you misunderstood basic science, does not mean that the scientific community does.

Its about collision, right? When a particle impacts a stationary object, half the energy goes into the particle and half the energy goes into the object. So only 49.5% of the energy of a 99% light speed impact is put on either. To get more energy, both objects need to be going as fast as possible, thus shooting them at eachother is the way to go.

No, it's worse than that (at least for very high energy collisions).
When the energy of the particle being accelerated exceeds the rest mass of the target, most of the energy will end up going into the kinetics of the resulting shower of particles, rather than go towards producing any new rest mass.

Example: 50 MeV electron collides with a stationary anti-electron. Since the rest mass of the anti-electron is 0.6 MeV, the collision will effectively only be able to achieve a 1.2 MeV collision, and you're not going to see anything very interesting. The photons resulting from annihilation will go flying backwards, but blue-shifted with 48.8 MeV of extra energy.

Is there anything to shoot it at that doesnt shower particles?

Wish I knew more esp the math. Wonder what particles we will see and what's in store with dark matter. Fascinating that creatures a few hundred years ago managing only fire can achieve such wonders. Marvelous indeed.

Going to the moon, hand held devices allowing instantaneous communications, a global internet with much of human knowledge on it, the sheer volume of knowledge learned to date, the ability to fly halfway across the world in 14 hrs in a plane flying in the stratosphere requiring pressurization allowing for humans to survive in it, and on and on.

Everyone knows humans evolved on Nanu before arriving here via now buried stargates and we have advanced most of our knowledge via alien cultural exchanges. :)
