Oh... you're right. I forgot. As soon as the civil right act passed, three hundred years of southern attitudes toward blacks just instantaneously evaporated and there IS no racism in the south anymore. Thanks for reminding me. [/sarcasm off]

but to answer your question: here are the names of a few: Michael Hill, Michael Peroutka, Rev. Eugene Cas, Mark Thomey, Mike Tuggle, Mike Crane, Dr. John Cook, [Thomas Fleming, Grady McWhiney and Clyde Wilson. The Leadership of the League of the South.

It was his link and his citation and it was precisely because that article brought up historical references that the Democratic Party began attracting African Americans that I have had to address why, when and how the democrats had been pulling the black vote from the Republican party. Don't accuse me of bringing up "ancient history" when I am only responding to the post, and the articles incomplete historical timelines and facts. I have to also point out the truth about "conservatives" are the racists falsehoods and do so quite extensively by pointing out conservatives for civil rights, and liberals who were against civil rights. None of these facts have ever been questioned or disputed. Liberals might do well to take in these facts and be educated.

Now as far as the "coalition became uncomfortable and eventually untenable", it seemed to have worked in 1960, 1964, 1976, and as late as 1992 and 1996. It was also unsuccessful in 1968, and 1972, when both Northern and Southerners were still trying to elect racist segregationist George Wallace to the presidency. Democrats constantly accuse Nixon of The Myth of the Southern Strategy but fail to acknowledge that in both his presidential campaigns (not to mention his 1960 loss to JFK) those Southern white racist democrat voters voted for George Wallace.

Why haggle over the KKK. Abortion doctors have made the KKK obsolete since they can kill far more blacks thru abortion.

The vast majority of the people who supported integration and Civil Rights were liberals, even Malcolm X admits this although he is still extremely skeptical about liberals true intentions. He admits it was indeed liberals who at least "disguised" themselves as helping black people, whereas at least conservatives were open about the fact they did not want to help black people.

"The white liberal differs from the white conservative only in one way: the liberal is more deceitful than the conservative. The liberal is more hypocritical than the conservative.

Both want power, but the white liberal is the one who has perfected the art of posing as the Negro’s friend and benefactor; and by winning the friendship, allegiance, and support of the Negro, the white liberal is able to use the Negro as a pawn or tool in this political “football game” that is constantly raging between the white liberals and white conservatives.

Politically the American Negro is nothing but a football and the white liberals control this mentally dead ball through tricks of tokenism: false promises of integration and civil rights. In this profitable game of deceiving and exploiting the politics of the American Negro, those white liberals have the willing cooperation of the Negro civil rights leaders. These “leaders” sell out our people for just a few crumbs of token recognition and token gains. These “leaders” are satisfied with token victories and token progress because they themselves are nothing but token leaders….

The white liberals hate The Honorable Elijah Muhammad because they know their present position in the power structure stems form their ability to deceive and to exploit the Negro, politically as well as economically." - Malcolm X

We must keep in mind though eventually even Malcolm X himself began to hate the "honorable" Elijah Muhammad who was the man responsible for his death, and integration DID happen even though Malcolm X did not believe it would. He was right when he said liberals were the friends of black people, he was wrong when he said it was just a disguise to use them as a "political football" although im sure that was indeed the case for many people who called themselves liberal in that time but regardless, it was the liberals who ended segregation and won black people Civil Rights even though Malcolm thought we werent serious about it, we still did it.

The point is, the liberals at the very least "pretended" to help black people whereas the conservatives openly discriminated against them.

Here is James Baldwin, a black liberal, vs William F. Buckley one of the most renown conservative thinkers of his time. The debate is whether the American Dream has been achieved at the expense of black people, the liberal of course says "Yes", the conservative of course says "No".

1960... years before the CRA and the VRA...again, old news
1964... we ran a sitting Vice President and YOU ran a racist wacko who wanted to nuke Vietnam and who was against the CRA.
1976... we ran a southern governor and YOU ran a guy who was the first guy in history to be APPOINTED to the presidency without one popular vote cast for him for that position... and HE had pardoned a crook. We could have won '76 with Jerry Lewis as our candidate.
1992/96... we ran a centrist southern governor who won both sides of the bell curve. To suggest Clinton won election because of white southern racists is an unsupportable pile of feces.

FACT: White racists do not find a home anymore in the democratic party. Now, bluesguy wants everyone to believe that, like magic, when the CRA and the VRA passed, blinding Eureka moments happened for all the white southern racists who had been born and raised thinking that the black man was inferior to them... and in aftermath of those instantaneous conversions, white racism disappeared in the south. I don't believe him, and I don't believe that the south lost its racist core because of a bunch of northerners moving south to get away from the snow. Racism is alive and well in the south. Y'all just don't feel comfortable admitting to it anymore.

and when the white racists come out to vote for president, you know dan well that, for the past two, they haven't voted for the democrat, have they?

Nothing you posted disputes or disproves anything I posted. Nothing you posted has any proof, evidence or links to support your assertions as mine do. You give no examples or evidence that there are no white racists in the democrat party, or that they don't support democrats. We just have your word for it. If the white racists switched parties, how come Al Gore Jr is still a democrat? How come those democrat racists and their families are still democrats? I don't see evidence they switched either. You have no evidence whatsoever. All you have is anecdotal BS and lies.

That is a philosophical question which answered either way cannot be interpreted as racist.

Are you talking Goldwater? The Pheonix AZ businessman who was one of the first to desgregate not only his store for shoppers but for employees and then played a key part in desegregating other businesses and the public schools in Phoenix? The first governor who by executive action desegregated the state National Guard even before Truman desegregated the federal military? That racist wacko?

And Goldwater never advocated nuking anyone.

But then the left only has such myths to try to use to defend the racist past of the Democrat party.

Al Gore Jr. may have been the son of a racist - I understand that... I am the grandson of a racist - but I have never seen anything from him that would suggest he shared his father's sentiments. So, in Gore's case, as, I am sure, in many others, the younger generation had a change in attitude about race that, fortuitously for them, coincided with the democratic party's attitude about race, which allowed them to abandon racism without abandoning the democratic party. Clearly, that wasn't the path taken by all. Trent Lott, for example, chose to leave the democratic party. So did Strom "I like the dark meat" Thurmond. Interesting case, him.... he ran for president on a platform that would have made interracial marriage unconstitutional, yet, in his private life, he liked nothing better than peeling the bark off of a black birch. Your Senior US senator, earlier in this 21st century, said we would be a better country today if we had elected Ol' Strom instead of Harry Truman in 1948. Can you believe that???? That is what the leadership of today's GOP thinks about where America would be today if we had elected a dixiecrat in '48. It boggles the mind.

Yes one who found his home in the Democrat party and even after the failed Dixiecrat movement went right back to being a Democrat and won his elections handily as a Democrat for years.

But then you have no problem painting the entire South as racist based on the fathers do you?
Yes which is why the Republicans gradually gained power, we saw the true colors of the Democrats.

The Democrats attitude about race was that it was no longer politically expedient to support racist policies.

He was first elected as a Republican he was never in the Democrat Party.

Yes after losing the Civil Rights battles to the Republicans and he no longer needed the Democrats to support segregation and admitting he was wrong.

And was welcomed back into the Democrat party afterwards and held high positions in the Democrat party afterwards. It was after he changed his views the Republicans took him in.

A platitude to an only man on his birthday? That's the best you got. Funny how all you on the left have is Thurmond as if he represented the South in toto. Well let's not forget the guy you guys elected President twice lavished similar praise on an actual KKK'er, one who was a very good recruiter for them.

Yes I do, and do you know why he voted the way he did? I do. Did you know that Kennedy and Johnson voted against the 1957 bills?

But the fact is you didn't know that Goldwater fought against segregation and acted to end it both as a private citizen and as Governor long before the Democrats jumped on the bandwagon. Perhaps you should do some fact checking before you try to smear someone.

Being that you have to try to misrepresent me at all when the fallacy of your statements is show that says a lot.

So what exactly do you mean by the statement that I am "plugged into the the white racist organizations of the South" and how did you draw that conclusion from the fact I had never heard of the one you mentioned? You seem to be the one who can roll the names and members off your tongue not me.

Or are insults are all you are left with? Perhaps you should do some fact checking before you try to smear me.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to point out Hillary and Bill Clinton celebrated the confederate flag and praised former member Robert Byrd and they are both liberals or so they claim so we don't know how many KKK are conservatives, liberals or independents.

It's funny how people want to say it is us conservatives who support the KKK. I do no such thing and have many black friends. The KKK has no influence on the Republican party.and is estimated as of 2016 to have only 5,000-8,000 members.

So how is it ok to label conservatives as KKK or racist when that number is so small? Liberals want to lie and make it out like we support the KKK and that is not true. There is not even any proof Trump is for the KKK. If there is said evidence where is it?

    https://www.splcenter.org/hate-map?...wr5BdgX5YeTr06YZKtEcbSpbRKmuEBwsQ_GgLspPD_BwE

This site lists all of the hate groups in the country which is almost 1,000 groups. The site shows that the KKK do not even exist anymore in many conservative states and mostly only influence a handful of east coast states and some southern states. So to label conservatives as the KKK is stupid and some people are doing that.

Quality conservatives have nothing to do with the KKK. Obviously the KKK has no good qualities.

The KKK was a caucus of the Democrat run by Grand Cleagle Robert Byrd (D-WVa) --- the same Robert Byrd who filibustered the Civil Rights Act --- and the same Robert Byrd on

    Screenshot-2016-03-02-at-12.03.25-PM.png

whose lips Hillary laid a big wet smack. Yes, this Robert Byrd

All the double talk in the world won't change the party of Robert Byrd, George Wallace and Lester Maddox.

Well said. The left tries to smear Trump with the KKK but Hillary was the one who actually had ties to KKK member Robert Byrd and celebrated the confederate flag which she and her husband Bill owned.

The KKK was and remains the terrorist arm of the Progressive Marxist Democrats. Ever think about why the new terrorist arms of the PMD are now called #OWS, #BLM, and their newest #Antifa. Each a terrorist group. Then there's the big revisionist change from Democrat Marxist Communists that consider themselves the Blue Party when they are the deepest of Reds.

Probably not always liberals, but they sure are racists and that hasn't changed a bit...

The funny thing about the liberal lie, that the KKK folks aren't 'their's' anymore is that there is absolutely no evidence to support that. NONE...

You will be attacked because you are introducing facts.
How very sad that what was the party of Lincoln has become the party for racists.
I am NOT saying all in the GOP are racists, but, if you are a racist, the GOP is your party.
I would also like to point out to the fascists, like Pence, who wrap the cross in the flag, that Christ was a liberal - all for the poor, non-judgmental, peace-loving - all very un-GOP.

Looks like you @Dispondent resurrected it.

How can you call the KKK "liberal" when they go around killing Negroes ??

    Liberal means more not less.

Conservative means conserving things, like power.

Originally conservative meant conserving the power of kings -- both in France and in England.

Now it means conserving riches for the rich, by giving them tax cuts, repealing the inheritance tax, etc.

Now you can go figure, and figure this out on your own.

The KKK was never liberal. They have always been conservative.

    You cannot be serious.
The FACT is that the South "flipped" from being a solidly Democratic block to a solidly GOP block because of Johnson and civil rights legislation - every bigoted white person, formerly in the democratic party, swore off the democratic party as having betrayed them for civil rights, and overnight became republicans.
    YOU CANNOT RE-WRITE HISTORY.
Democratic bigots became GOP bigots, because the democratic party betrayed them by passing civil rights.

"Flipped" is a bit over the top. Either way, since Reagan the demographics switched back to Democrats, how else did Bill Clinton achieve such electoral college numbers? Keep on lying to yourself if you wish, I won't allow you to lie to me...
