Don't have time to dig into this right now, but this should give the board's members something to look at and discuss until I get back in a few hours.

I'm curious to read up on this as well, but that will have to wait a bit, safe to assume its not a 2 minute project.

Also safe to assume that the lefties will check onto msnbc, get a talking point or two then declare it an immediate failure. Probably some more rape victim talk too.

The second link brought up a pdf file for me.

Edit: Just double checked, the second link brings up a .pdf file. Not sure how big it is but on a 150mb connection it opened pretty fast. If it's large then someone on their phone might see it take longer to open.

You can find some analysis and the bill here as well as find live analysis.

    Some key highlights (so far):
Medical Groups (American Psychiatric Association) still don't like the plan
The plans gives huge tax cuts to businesses and the highest income earners
CBO will score early next week
Senate GOP bill would end Obamacare tax penalties

    Summary:
Medicaid: The plan would roll back the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion more gradually than the House version would, but would ultimately make deeper cuts to the program. While states' funding from Washington would be capped for the first time in the history of the Medicaid program, states would be given a choice of the formula used -- 'block grants' or 'per capita caps' -- to curb it under the bill.

Penalties: The bill would end the ACA’s much-debated requirement that most Americans pay a penalty if they don’t have insurance. The bill also suspends the so-called Cadillac tax on generous employer health benefits through 2025.

Subsidies: The bill would keep Obamacare's current tax credits to provide subsidies to people who don’t get health insurance on the job, but the bill would lower income eligibility for the assistance, meaning fewer people would be able to get the subsidies. The credits would also be less robust than under the ACA.

Planned Parenthood: The bill would strip federal funding from Planned Parenthood Federation of America for one year. It also prohibits tax credits from being used to purchase plans that offer abortion coverage.

ACA Taxes: Like the House bill, the Senate bill would repeal a 3.8% tax on investment income retroactively to January 2017 and delay the repeal of a 0.9% payroll tax until 2023. Both of those taxes only apply to individuals making more than $200,000 and married couples making more than $250,000.

Good thing is the bill is 142 pages vs 2700 page Obamacare most can read 142 pages for themselves.

Because it's not a repeal and replace. It just amends Obamacare.

Similar to legislation that passed the House earlier this year, the Senate bill would repeal Obamacare’s individual and employer mandates, as well as most of the new taxes imposed under that law. It would also scale back the ACA’s Medicaid expansion, though on a slower timeline than the House bill prescribes, by beginning to curtail federal funds for the program in 2021 and returning them to pre-Obamacare levels by 2024.

The legislation would also overhaul Medicaid, capping federal spending at a per-person allotment rather than the open-ended funding currently allowed under the program.

Though the broad structure was similar to that of the House measure, there were key differences. The House version provided tax credits based on age to help people afford health insurance; the Senate version would tie those credits to age, income and geography, similar to how they were structured under Obamacare, though they would cover a smaller portion of the population and would cover slightly more generous plans.

Instead, the Senate bill would provide funds to help states seek waivers already in the Affordable Care Act allowing them to make changes to essential health benefits, though they would not be able to waive community rating (the Obamcare regulation preventing insurers from charging higher prices based on health status) under that process.

Minority Leader Chuck Schumer led a group of Democrats on the floor to raise procedural objections to the Republicans’ legislation and to criticize their expedited process for pushing it through the chamber.

Schumer called the bill “every bit as bad” as the House counterpart. “The Senate Republican health-care bill is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Only this wolf has sharper teeth than the House bill,” he said on the Senate floor.....snip~

Chucky Cheese Schumer is mad that the Repubs did to the Demos what was done to them, and because the wolf takes a bite out of their crime.

That's because it's only 142 pages of amendments to the ACA. Most of Obamacare, as you called it, is staying exactly as it is.

What an idiotic measure of value.

It is also a terribly incompetent comparison because Obamacare tried to amend the entire healthcare system with one law and the GOP, because they can't get TrumpCare passed in one bill, have to work really, really ****ing hard just to pass one-third of their plan.

Four GOP senators -- Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Ron Johnson and Mike Lee -- put out a statement saying they aren't ready to vote for health care bill, but left the door open for negotiations.

Here's what we know so far, according to McConnell:

    -Repeals the Obamacare individual mandate

    -Repeals the Obamacare employer mandate

-Improves the affordability of health insurance

-Eliminates costly Obamacare taxes, including the medical device tax

-Expands tax free health savings accounts

-Deploys tax credits to make coverage more affordable

-Shifts power from Washington D.C. to the states

-Stabilizes the health insurance market with a $15 billion, four year fund

-Transitions away from Obamacare entirely, but not right away

    -Protects coverage of preexisting conditions

-Allows parents to keep their children on their health insurance until they are 26-years-old.....snip~

    No it wasn't.

    1/4/2010

House and Senate Democrats intend to bypass traditional procedures when they negotiate a final compromise on health care legislation, officials said Monday, a move that will exclude Republican lawmakers and reduce their ability to delay or force politically troubling votes in both houses.

The unofficial timetable calls for final passage of the measure to remake the nation's health care system by the time President Barack Obama delivers his State of the Union address, probably in early February.

Democratic aides said the final compromise talks would essentially be a three-way negotiation involving top Democrats in the House and Senate and the White House, a structure that gives unusual latitude to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California.

These officials said there are no plans to appoint a formal House-Senate conference committee, the method Congress most often uses to reconcile differing bills. Under that customary format, a committee chairman is appointed to preside, and other senior lawmakers from both parties and houses participate in typically perfunctory public meetings while the meaningful negotiations occur behind closed doors.

In this case, the plan is to skip the formal meetings, reach an agreement, then have the two houses vote as quickly as possible. A 60-vote Senate majority would be required in advance of final passage.....snip~

    3/22/2010

The Democratic-controlled Congress approved historic legislation Sunday night extending health care to tens of millions of uninsured Americans and cracking down on insurance company abuses, a climactic chapter in the century-long quest for near universal coverage.

On the cusp of succeeding where numerous past congresses and administrations have failed, jubilant House Democrats voted 219-212 late Sunday to send legislation to President Barack Obama. Republicans were unanimous in opposition, joined by 34 dissident Democrats.

The Senate-passed bill was widely viewed as dead two months ago.

"This is what change looks like," Obama said later in televised remarks that stirred memories of his 2008 campaign promise of "change we can believe in."

"We proved that this government — a government of the people and by the people — still works for the people." .....snip~

No, not. The Democrats pulled the same thing as the Republicans did here. They did most of their work in the shadows and behind closed doors so nobody knew what was going on. Just exactly what the Republicans pulled.

I doubt the Republicans will admit their hypocrisy, which is on them. But there's no question that they replicated the actions of the Democrats when they put together the ACA.
