Yes, that would be really cool. If we were to ever find signs of intelligent life on one of those planets I have often speculated that it would be smarter to try and communicate via lazars instead of radio waves. It would also mean that we focus our SETI searches more accurately.

Be nice to live long enough to establish that kind of communication but I doubt that I would ever see that in my lifetime.

No that's 'technology' which enables me to do that? Nowt to do with the universe.

Well after all these years and money spent, I'd expect something to have been discovered by now. But that's basic knowledge which has been gained by observing through the ever-increasing power of telescopes.

I can tell when I'm being asked to believe what others want me to believe; in other words I know when they're fooling and manipulating me.

I'm not at all threatened by it. It's just that I'm not gullible or naive enough to believe something if there is not a shred of tangible evidence to substantiate it. Why can you not understand that?

No, I sleep very well as a matter of fact. I certainly don't lie awake all night thinking about things which are totally irrelevant to me.

Your ignorance of how much better your life is because of NASA technology could be easily alleviated by just reading this link

    https://spinoff.nasa.gov/Spinoff2008/tech_benefits.html

As far are your conspiracy beliefs go that is your problem, not mine.

There isn't much point in my reading spiel from a source in which I have no belief nor confidence. I suggest it's time we left each other to our differing viewpoints because I don't think there's ever going to be a meeting of minds? Not in a million light years??

Bit fearful these days about communicating with an alien race. Still would be difficult not to. Lasers give your position away.

So you won't read it because it exposes you as being wrong?

    :roflol:

Not in the least bit surprised. In fact par for the course as I have come to expect.

We are broadcasting our position to the universe anyway so it isn't as though we would be able to magically "cloak" the entire planet.

And if they have the power to attack us from who knows how many light years away we wouldn't stand a chance so no point worrying about something there is absolutely nothing we can do about.

I would take the risk because the potential knowledge gained far outweighs the risk IMO.

It is worth noting that all explorers risked their lives and while many perished we are the beneficiaries of those that survived.

One other thing to consider is that if we were to land on an alien planet we would probably have to deal with various unknown biological threats from an environment for which we would have zero immunities. That exact same situation would face any alien life that tried to land here on earth. It is a double edged sword.

To my way of thinking being able to communicate across those distances is better than none at all and for all we know there might already be a universe sized internet that we just need to learn how to access. That would be the ultimate in cool.

If you have ever driven or been driven in a car with radial tires you have probably benefited from this NASA technology even if you don't believe it.

Be impossible to communicate with lasers unless contact and position had already been established. Much too narrow a method. Electromagnetic emanations is a) far more efficient and greater reach in searching and b) command of the spectrum is a necessary intermediate technological development step in any advanced civilization capable of communicating with us.

I put it to you that NASA didn't have to venture into deep space in order to discover that prosaic innovation? Stop digging, Derideo_Te? It's becoming embarrassing.

Are you using a laptop to type up your denials?

Because you can thank NASA for that too.

There are people with artificial limbs that can thank NASA and people whose lives were saved in cars with greater structural integrity thanks to NASA.

Do you ever eat any foods that have been freeze dried thanks to NASA?

Only person who is digging a hole here is you so as to have a safe space where you can hide away from reality.

From the way you keep hyping up NASA anyone would think that if it weren't for them we'd all still be living in the dark ages? Did NASA invent tin-foil milk bottle tops too? :roflol:

From the way you keep on denying the contributions of NASA you must need all of those milk bottle tops to reinforce your headgear.

He's using the word loosely! He doesn't know the difference betwixt real science and fake science. I do though.

Is "fake science" the same as "alt facts" which is really just a synonym for "ignorant BS"? :roflol:

Alright I'm 'ignorant' and you're 'gullible', how about we leave it at that?

I wasn't accusing you of being ignorant. I was just trying to clarify all these new terms so that we are both on the same page.

And we already figured out the link between gullibility and BLOTUS supporters, right?

    Microwave
Old person moment but those black strips that stick together
Bigger better more reliable rockets to insert satellites
Space shuttle for ISS used for more basic science....discovery that dust sticks together via static electricity......voila the building of a solar system

Basic science almost always generates revenue via new products and spin offs.

People, do NOT go up against cerberus. Just listen, and learn. Got that? I know it's hard when all you want to do is reiterate Talking Points
