During the campaign Trump promised to protect & defend Gay Rights.

He even waved a Gay Rights flag at a campaign event, to show that he supports Gay Rights.

well today, the Trump Administration just totally BROKE those promises.

the Trump Administration argued in Federal Court today that the Civil Rights Act does not protect Gays against discrimination in housing, education, employment, or public accomodation. They will NOT defend Gays against such discrimination and will not take on any such cases.

So now you can fire Gays for being Gay, not hire Gays for being Gay, not sell gasoline or milk or eggs to a Gay because they are Gay. You can refuse to let them go to your colege because they are Gay. And the Trump Justice Department won't say a thing about it.

Well, Republicans can't be too thrilled about this. Just put the whole gay rights issue back on the table for the 2018 elections. Could have just been an election about the economy, but no ... Trump has to pull this out of his arse.

Its now up to the States to defend Gay Rights, cause Trump could care less.

This means that more than a few Red States will allow Gays to face horrible discrimination.

Just think, if your starving or thirsty a store can refuse to sell you water, if they think you're Gay. And the Trump DOJ will say that's just fine.

    Trump actually has "gay" supporters?

Every LGBT person (that I am acquainted with) voted against him and hates his guts.

People can vote against their best interests. For example, a lot of people support Trump because they care more about racist immigration policies than they do about free healthcare, livable wages and in this case, LGBT issues. I've also noticed that a huge chunk of the African-American community tends to vote for Democrats even though they're socially conservative on a hell of a lot of issues. You have a lot of single-issue voters in America.

How the hell is someone going to know your sexual orientation when you walk into a store?

Actually, the Justice Department is just reading THE LAW AS WRITTEN:

the Justice Department said in a friend-of-the-court brief, citing the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which bars discrimination in the workplace based on “race, color, religion, sex or national origin.” “It does not, as has been settled for decades. Any efforts to amend Title VII’s scope should be directed to Congress rather than the courts.”

Sometimes you just have to wonder if the posters here actually read. If anyone had actually read the article, the friend of the court brief expresses a simple separation of powers assertion. Congress is the appropriate place to make changes to legal standards like title VII. The courts are not legislators, not should they. This doesn't mean that the administration itself has either betrayed the LGBT community or not. The brief addresses an obvious overreach from the previous administration. If congress takes up the title VII definition, they should do so. So buck up liberals, and stitch up an amendment to do that. We'll wait.

There's no law that protects heterosexual rights either, so the gays can get in the back of the bus with us.

Is anyone actually shocked by this? I just assumed that everyone by now knows that Trump is a liar. Sad thing is that I am getting use to the lies as they have become commonplace in the Trump administration.

Perhaps Trump needs to put down The Prince by Machiavelli and pick up and read the story about the kid who cried wolf!

oh, so the DOJ will still fight to protect Gay Rights?

bs. this memo makes it clear they will not.

it will be left to the States cause Trump doesn't care.
