From the looks of it on the news, mostly hardcore racists showed up. I admire you doing what you did. So the antifa assumed anyone there was a rabid white supremacist? Was the antifa violent also?
We have one planned here in Seattle tomorrow.

You dont seem to be paying attention.

I was there in counterprotest. I, a local resident, had no permit to assemble. They did. Every brawl that broke out (so many... was nuts) was started by people on my side of the protest (again, that would be against the racists). The cops also determined (because of the violence... again perpitrated by the antifa) that the protest was unlawful, and riot cops forced the protesters away from monument grounds. I actually expected them to resist that more, as I feel the cops were way outta line punishing them for the behavior of the counterprotests .

Have you ever heard the saying, "if you build it, they will come"? Yes of course the white supremacist knew that people would be there to resist their message. But it was the white supremacist that brought the shields, night-sticks, and tear gas, to ensure that they could just bully over any anti-protesters. Conducting a rally requires a permit, but those rallies are public and the public doesn't need a permit to voice objections to rallies they don't agree with. According to the VA Governor, those permits to "White Nationalists" have been revoked as they are no longer welcome in this Commonwealth. They came with the only intent of inciting violence and chaos. The statue was still removed.

No, it was clear I was not with the racists... but they found my presence confusing. Every single conflict I saw was started by antifa.

I am paying attention to your claim of being an eye-witness, but I don't know if you could see the forest for the trees, because what I saw in the live-news coverage was white supremacists pushing threw crowds of anti-demonstrators with shield, night-sticks, and tear gas. Even the police confirmed this.

I'm not sure where you're trying to go with this but if you have a serious rebuttal I'm all ears.

Can you stop imagining things and ask questions?

Yes, the counterprotesters were there w helmets, gear and clubs too.

Here is the main problem. You can say anything you like to me... I will not commit a criminal act against you for it. You believe in the first amendment, but accept that violence is a logical consequence of exercising unpopular speech.

You are wrong, and I'm awesome.

Yes, that did happen. Their movement was blocked, and individual counterprotesters were hitting them with ****. I didnt have an issue with them asserting their freedom of travel under those conditions. It was super tense.

That is what I saw on the news at first. But the reporting suddenly changed. It was the antifascist that were ordered to disperse.. correct?

The police ended up declaring the whole thing an unlawful assembly, despite their having a federal permit. Riot cops then pushed them out of the park, into the streets filled with antifa. Was a bad call imo.

I disagree with anarchist pro-fascism "anti-fascists" and white supremacists. I decry violence full stop. I do not paint with a broad brush.

Both sides is going to spin this to their respective echo chambers, make sure you don't listen to them and instead watch the live video and decide for yourself.

That doesn't really work either and the MSM will be HIGHLY selective in what they show to support their narrative they want to tell.

I mean complete one take live streams from independent reporters. Hard to introduce bias into that format, short of following one group around.

The MSM, Democrat officials and the Democrat police chief did all they could to make the occasion as violent as possible. Accordingly, if you KNOW you are going to be attacked by BOTH the police (the Democrat chief declared free speech and right to assemble for those marchers - but not counter protesters - was illegal basically suspending the Constitution and declaring martial law days before the march - AND seeing the MSM and Democrat officials ginning up as much counter protest as possible, wearing protective gear for those unwilling to give up their free speech and assembly rights made sense.

If you were DETERMINED to NOT abandon your free speech and assembly constitution rights, but also knowing it all but certain you will be attacked by both the police and the Democrats' protesters, would you take steps to protect yourself?

IF the MSM and Democrat officials had not become pathological liars trying to turn it violent - instead just being truthful and reporting it as a protest against removing the statute - and IF the Democrat police chief had not declared protesting the removal literally is criminal - there would have been a march, some counter protesters should insults from the sidewalk - and that would have been the end of the story. But that was NOT acceptable to either the Democratic Party OR the MSM - noting there is a hot governor's race going on so it also entirely politicized.

No, it was deliberate. The Democrat police chief, Democrat officials and the leftwing MSM absolutely wanted to make this a violent and deadly as possible. They were successful in their goal of getting people killed.

Yup. Always blame Democrats just like all those right wingers in the youtube chat did earlier today.

Of course, they all missed this:

    https://twitter.com/search?q=swastika&ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^search

The swastika - symbol which killed Americans, not a symbol of patriotism as those deluded far right extremists and their defenders believe.
