They're digging up Democrats? Do they need his vote? Forrest was accused of war crimes at the Battle of Fort Pillow for allegedly allowing forces under his command to massacre hundreds of black Union Army and white Southern Unionist prisoners. However, Sherman investigated the allegations and did not charge Forrest with any improprieties. He was a pledged delegate from Tennessee to the New York Democratic national convention of July 4, 1868. Forrest was an early member of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Bedford_Forrest
I thought liberals whom supported tearing down statues said it would never escalate past confederates.... Conservatives saw this coming from a miles away.
What of all those public schools named after Slave Owners or The Honored Dead of the Confederate States of America? Lots to chose from. https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=schools+named+after+slave+owners Imagine all the Harriet Tubman Elementary, Junior High and High Schools.
Also, we need to abandon the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution! Slave owners created those abominations! We should return to British rule or straight up Communism (Authoritarianism). That is the real win for us all!
NPR is laying the groundwork. They talked about how the Jefferson Memorial was just FDR's hastily completed pet project so the Democrats had a monument to match the Republicans' Lincoln Memorial. The inference was that it would be no big deal if it was time to tear down slaveholder monuments.
I wish people would stop putting the Founding Fathers in the same category as the Confederacy. Both had slave but that is about where the similarities end. The Founding Fathers lived in a time when slavery was still legal in the British Empire till 1833 for crying out loud. The Confederates had no such excuse, by the time the Civil War came around most of the world had abolished slavery and the US South was one of the last hold outs. Stop comparing tearing down statues of Robert E Lee....a traitor.....with tearing down monuments to Washington or the others who founded this country. There is no reason to have monuments to traitors and even Robert Lee was against them according to my highly reliable source ..Facebook.
Tubman is supposed to replace Jackson on the $20 bill. Jefferson is on the nickel and the $2 bill. http://mistupid.com/currency/
Great topic Moi. Thanks for the heads up. As I have said, monuments are not racist. Monuments can inspire history lessons. Teacher use them to teach children. Many have yet to see these magnificent monuments. They tower so high they add majesty. Like if Niagara Falls was as wide, but only 5 feet high, nobody would see it. But since it is so much larger, they want to see the falls. Who can imagine at Mt. Rushmore those monuments scaled down to a couple of feet high? We must preserve history as well as tell the story. I enjoyed the national battle fields that told the story. Take Manassas for instance, when you walk about, you are learning history. There is much more at the site than found in books.
Jefferson had slaves? Did they work at his dry cleaning business? No wonder he was able to "Move on up". What did Weezie think of it?
What of Monticello? Can we in good conscience allow this site of plantation slavery to remain? Burn It Down! It's The P.C. thing to do. Something like this
