It's like putting the three stooges in charge of the army, navy, and air force with Groucho Marx Commander in Chief.

We should take note that the Command Echelon of the army, navy, and air force are the people who were promoted by Bush after failing to protect USA against 9/11.

Quite so, it's their decision and their self-determination, and nobody else's. I think we've had our fingers burnt often enough by arrogantly believing we know what's best for every other country on the planet, because we bloody don't.

Libyan refugees were pouring into Italy if you recall.

What do you think about the fact that the U.S. military is working alongside ISIS in Syria?

Is that some justification for our intervention? Just leave them alone, let them have their civil war, and repatriate the refugees when the war is over.

You do know that we are a member of NATO... an Italy is an ally.

There was considerable hope that Libya would reinstate the Libyan Constitution post Gadaffi.

Then we should have used all of our combined Western diplomatic power to pressure Libya in that direction. But we should not have bombed the government out of existence and left it as a lawless hellhole, a breeding ground for ISIS and AQ.

The notion that we have that sort of control over the Libyan population isn't realistic... We couldn't pressure Gaddafi.. He had vowed a blood bath and the Tribal militias had NO central leadership at all..

Gaddafi's military and police were all foreign mercenaries. They threw down their weapons and ran.

I'm not defending Gaddafi. It was simply not our business. Same with Syria's civil war.

Those refugees fled the war that we helped fuel, Margot.

My stance is that we should defend ourselves and our allies, and stay out of other country's civil wars.

They fled before we got involved. The Assad regime has a long, long history of brutality. I am not much of an ideologue.. and I certainly understand the desire to mind one's own business. Perhaps its a moral issue.

Da, Tovarish! Putin will be pleased. Let the extermination of all Jews in Syria begin under his leadership. /sarcasm

I have a son on his 4th deployment to the Middle East right now. He was severely wounded 10 years ago over there. When I get into these debates about getting involved in other country's civil wars, and they bring up our moral obligation to get into it, I often ask if they're willing to give up one of their own children to fulfill that moral obligation.

That's usually a conversation ender. How about you?

Trump has not put any of his children on the line.

No, but his Chief of Staff, Gen. John Kelly, lost his son, 1st Lt Robert Kelly, in combat in Afghanistan in 2010. This is a man who is close to the president who knows what it means to go to war.

    That doesn't excuse Donald Trump.

Trump's grandfather was a German draft evader. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
