Well you are in the minority, if you like taking the train. We need to update the railroad infrastructure to move freight.

I like how Yahoo talks about the California Zephyr daily run to Chicago that takes 52 hours?, I could use some 52 hour days, NOT. 52 hours on a train when I can be on a plane for 4 hours.

If that is a picture of passengers disembarking that train on its "daily" run as the caption states. That route is very unpopular.

I send trucks to California from Detroit in about 52 hours with team drivers.

Unless trains turn into cruise ships, no one wants to spend that much time sitting on a fracking train, when you can fly in a fraction of the time.

Trains are so vastly preferable to cars, so much better in every way.

A chunk of our humanity dies if passenger trains do.

Another area where most of the rest of the developed world has us beaten.

Why we can't have incredibly sensible things like a functioning national rail system, affordable Medicare for all, and a multi-party political system is beyond me. :(

The United States is not Europe, where a one or two hour train trip can take you to multiple countries.

It is foolish to think about building and expanding cross country rail service, when the real and most impactful need is regional and local.

People need to stop pointing elsewhere and grasp the geography and scope that is the US.

Great point about local rail - it must come first!

But rebuilding and expanding our national rail system, and moving beyond our deadly enslavement to the automobile, is a future we can dream on. :)

Ever tried to ride the East/West route? Had a 9 hour layover in Chicago. What the hell, going to to sleep in the Train station? Probably the nicest part of town? Clearly it's a boon doggle that serves some folks well, and they are welcome to pay the freight for their own benefit.

    Too long neglected.

If lavished with the care it deserves, we could have a system the envy of the world. :)

Ironic and funny considering the Dems are now the party of "NO" for all things Trump. Trump could cure cancer, and the Dems would claim its racist to cure cancer because Trump did it.

The overall fatality rate for long-haul train service is 0.43 per billion passenger miles. Now let's compare that to airlines........Excluding acts of suicide and terrorism, commercial aviation was the safest mode of travel in the United States, with 0.07 fatalities per billion passenger miles. Air travel is cheaper and faster than trains. Why are we wasting money on them?

removing the smoking car was a mistake, as many that smoked preferred to take the train than a airline so they could smoke, now they just drive

when you start alienating customers for no reason... your gonna fail

    No.

Trains are VASTLY safer than cars by any legitimate measure, including the fact that THIRTY times the number of people die by car vs by train in this country every year.

And if you subtract the number of train accidents caused by cars - many are - it's even safer in trains.

AND nearly half of all train fatalities are caused by trespass on the rails - with possible suicidal intent - so they shouldn't even be counted.

If you subtract JUST the trespass accidents above, cars account for SIXTY times the number of deaths that trains do!

Cars are a disaster in every way; rail is the way to go! :)
