We have armed border guards now and no wall. How will the wall make things more deadly at the border?

Once again you show your ignorance of what I do for a living and my experience as a retired military officer.

.....and no NK's have tried to penetrate it with a nuke, so we have that going for us.

I predict the Border Patrol will spend a lot of time covering up graffiti to that effect. On the Mexican side, it should be very colorful. :)

Correct. OTOH, no one has posted any factual evidence how effective this multi-billion dollar wall (not just to build it, but to maintain and staff it) will be in stopping illegal immigration.

Agreed Puerto Rico is mostly a shithole, but let's not forget every Puerto Rican is an American citizen just like those living in shitholes like Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and parts of every Big Blue City in America.

I didn't claim otherwise. I merely correctly pointed out that the reason the people live in a shithole is because the place is beyond corrupt. They couldn't even be bothered to deliver food and supplies that was dropped in their laps.

Straight to the dumpster with it, or in some politicians warehouse somewhere.

I think it's a matter of logistics. We had the same problem wars; troops are one place, the supplies are in another. Getting the supplies to the troops was limited by transportation facilities, terrain, etc.

Yes, Puerto Rico has corruption but their main problem is exactly the same as as California's a few years ago: A liberal government giving away the treasury to the citizens and writing checks they couldn't cash.

No, it's complete corruption and incompetence and little else.

...and anyone who crossed the Berlin Wall was shot on sight, no questions asked, no matter how old or what gender. Is that what people are suggesting the US become? A totalitarian state that shoots anyone crossing a fence? You know, like North Korea?

There are better ways to fix the illegal immigration problem yet all I see are spendthrifts seeking to blow BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars on a White Elephant without a single fact supporting it's effectiveness and what percentage of illegal immigration it would stop.

Little Mexican girls die all the time crossing the miles of desert at our border and many of them are raped before they die. A wall would stop that.

What does that have to do with the remote and rugged regions this wall will be on? I grew up there and know exactly what I'm talking about, you don't.

Scroll down and you will see a comparison of several other ladders. Lightest one is 63 pounds.

Why? Wouldn't the rapists just use it to hold the little Mexican girls up against as they rape them?

YBF wrote how effective the Berlin Wall was. Do you really think it was only the concrete and the broken glass topping that stopped people seeking to cross over into freedom? No, it was the guards willing to shoot mothers holding babies, their husbands and anyone else who dared to run away from their totalitarian society.

    http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/east-germans-kill-man-trying-to-cross-berlin-wall
East German guards gun down a young man trying to escape across the Berlin Wall into West Berlin and leave him to bleed to death. It was one of the ugliest incidents to take place at one of the ugliest symbols of the Cold War.

The 1962 incident occurred almost a year to the day that construction began on the Berlin Wall. In August 1961, East Berlin authorities began stringing barbed wire across the boundary between East and West Berlin. In just a matter of days, a concrete block wall was under construction, complete with guard towers. In the months that followed, more barbed wire, machine guns, searchlights, guard posts, dogs, mines, and concrete barriers were set up, completely separating the two halves of the city. American officials condemned the communist action, but did nothing to halt construction of the wall.

On August 17, 1962, two young men from East Berlin attempted to scramble to freedom across the wall. One was successful in climbing the last barbed wire fence and, though suffering numerous cuts, made it safely to West Berlin. While horrified West German guards watched, the second young man was shot by machine guns on the East Berlin side. He fell but managed to stand up again, reach the wall, and begin to climb over. More shots rang out. The young man was hit in the back, screamed, and fell backwards off of the wall. For nearly an hour, he lay bleeding to death and crying for help. West German guards threw bandages to the man, and an angry crowd of West Berlin citizens screamed at the East German security men who seemed content to let the young man die. He finally did die, and East German guards scurried to where he lay and removed his body.

During the history of the Berlin Wall (1961 to 1989), nearly 80 people were killed trying to cross from East to West Berlin. East German officials always claimed that the wall was erected to protect the communist regime from the pernicious influences of Western capitalism and culture. In the nearly 30 years that the wall existed, however, no one was ever shot trying to enter East Berlin.

You straddle a forty foot wall and pull up an 85 lb ladder hand over hand while keeping your balance. You also keep your balance as twenty feet of that ladder above tries to tip this way and that. Then when you get to the halfway point you use the wall as a fulcrum and tip the ladder to the American side of the wall. The momentum of the falling ladder wants to take you and it over in one sweeping movement but somehow you keep your balance and stop that without falling or just letting go of the ladder. Now you let the rest of the ladder down hand over hand again while balancing precariously on the top of the wall and hope it finds even footing on the rocky uneven ground so it doesn't just slide off the wall as you attempt to climb down. Not saying it couldn't be done but anyone claiming it would be easy is a complete moron that has obviously never done anything in their lives except spout off on their computer.

All of which has nothing to do with the wall Trump wants.

Agreed. Smarter to use a professional like a coyote who has a smaller ladder truck and a rope ladder or cargo net for the US side.

Then why did others bring up how effective the Berlin Wall was as an example of effectiveness?

BTW, I'm still waiting for those figures on how effective Trump's Wall will be and what percentage of illegal immigration will be stopped by spending BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars on this project. If you don't have that information, please be honest enough to admit it.
