    Dems give up shutdown fight

Senate Democrats relinquished on the government shutdown Monday, agreeing to vote to reopen the government but insisting they’ll keep fighting for illegal immigrant “Dreamers” over the next weeks, with another shutdown deadline looming Feb. 8.

“I’m glad we’ve gotten past that,” Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said just ahead of a vote.

The vote to end the filibuster was 81-18, clearing the way for passage of the stopgap spending bill.

The House was expected to pass the bill later Monday, which would end the shutdown after three days.

The breakthrough came after Mr. McConnell said he would allow the Senate to conduct a freewheeling immigration debate in February, unless they come to a deal before then on how to handle the Dreamers.

The breakthrough came after Mr. McConnell said he would allow the Senate to conduct a freewheeling immigration debate in February, unless they come to a deal before then on how to handle the Dreamers.

Democrats touted that procedural commitment as a major victory, predicting they’ll emerge victorious from that immigration debate.

But it looks like the Democrats are still putting illegal aliens above America and American citizens. Will see next month what's going to happen.

Maybe we should start deporting illegals before then

We can start with Melania Trump. She moved to the US and started working for Donald Trump BEFORE she had a legal visa to do so.

But Melania Knavs followed the law and in 2001 returned to her home country in Slovenia and went to the U.S. Embassy that the law requires and applied for an immigration visa.

After being vetted by the Bush State Department, Melania was issued an immigration visa in 2001 flew back to America and after being vetted again was issued a permanent residence card (green card) by the DOJ.

She lived in the US for a good 5 years as an illegal with no Visa, and Donald Trump KNEW she was illegal when she was working for him.

According to far righters, she shouldn't have been allowed back into the country, since she knowingly stayed here without a Visa for several years.

I'm glad the Democratic members of this Congress regained some dignity. Frankly, this "open ended debate" would've happened had they passed the spending bill to BEGIN WITH. But hey, sometimes it takes the lesser of us some time to come full circle. I've come to recognize(with 5 bills on the table that'd authorize several scores more of Dreamers than are here) that we're going to get a very liberal compromise on it.

We just need to find a way to limit the damage. This Congress can't really put an effective bipartisan solution that would help on the immigration issue.

Dems are in a tactical retreat.

They think nobody notices, even years after Hillary lost.

The Democrats sodomized illegal aliens again and the Democrats are so cheap they didn't even pass out the KY Jelly to all of the dreamers.

. . . for 3 weeks. Then we are going to be right back where we started. This is going to keep being a problem until the President can get his story straight on DACA and pick a position he's willing to support. One minute he says he wants a DACA bill, then next he calls Dems traitors for illegal immigration when they push for it.

    http://jewishstandard.timesofisrael.com/how-did-melania-trump-get-u-s-citizenship/

"Michael Wildes was not Melania Trump’s original immigration lawyer, but “when a question arose as to whether she had worked without the proper visa, I was brought in to review the documents and clarify that she was in full compliance,” Mr. Wildes said. “She has been beyond reproach.”

As the open letter he wrote detailed, Mr. Wildes said that Ms. Trump first came to the United States on a B-1/B-2 visitor visa in 1996, and obtained the first of a series of yearlong H-1B visas later that year. She was issued a self-sponsored green card “based on her extraordinary ability” in 2001, he continued. (Donald Trump and Melania Knauss were married in 2004.) “There is no doubt that she is highly accomplished,” Mr. Wildes said. “She has been associated with some of the biggest ad campaigns in the world, and she was highly remunerated.”

The people in question are socialist who hold unto their fathers politics wanting government to regulate their lives and supplying them with a whole crap load of free stuff.

These are future agitators and trouble makers. Pawns of the Democratic party.

When will Democrats wake up and discover they have created Frankenstein's ?

    Ha ha.

    Let's break this down.

The government shut down was predicated on two main sticking points.

    1) DACA, and

    2) CHIP

The republicans wanted NEITHER. They refused to fund CHIP because...they hate families?...I don't have a good answer for that. Perhaps the republicans here do. And they want the dreamers deported because white, rural Americans seem to think that foreigners are responsible for all their problems. The root of their problems is a lack of self accountability, but that's another topic.

So let's see who got what.

    Schumer got:

    1) 6 years of CHIP funding
    2) A PUBLIC promise to debate and vote on DACA

    McConnell got:

    1) To not have to do anything with the Dreamers, something he already had
    2) 3 weeks of government funding at which point the dems can force DACA back to the table

So Schumer got 66% of what he wanted and McConnell got...barely 33%. Schumer one his first battle for CHIP, and now has another chance to fight for DACA. McConnell has to figure out a way to renege on his public promise and risk a government shut down that he could have avoided by keeping his promise. In 3 weeks.

The closer this fight gets to November, the better for democrats. They can show that even if you give the GOP all 3 branches, they still can't do anything right.

I think Schumer won this round. We will see in 3 weeks how it goes, but there is no objective win here for the GOP. DACA still haunts them, and as part of the bigger picture, their competence at governing.

Also, there's a "c" in Schumer. And lastly, Dreamers didn't choose to be here. Someone else made that choice for them. We don't legally punish people for other's crimes. That would be like arresting you because your father got drunk and beat your mother. I mean, you didn't stop him? You are his kid and he did something wrong, so we should arrest both of you, right? No, it stands up to no moral or ethical test.

Yes, regulating lives, like telling people who they can and can't marry, who they can and can't sleep with, what they can do with their fetuses, regulations like that. And supplying free crap, like taking money from some people and giving to others, aka residents of New York to give it to the residents of Texas.

I agree, socialists, all of them...

You don't know the meaning of that word, I think. Socialist that is.

Right. So in other words, the Republicans said choose CHIP or DACA.

The dems said, we'll take CHIP now and fight you for DACA later. And McConnell said...OK.

You can tell yourself what you want, but the only reason the republicans put CHIP in there was to try and make DACA go away. And they didn't. What they did was force THEMSELVES to publically vote on immigration bills that will be racist and nationalistic thus forcing them more into Trump's bed in November of 2018.

You are really bad at this politics thing.

McConnell is praying the House drafts a bill so incompatible so he can blame conservative House GOP members when he can't pass something, and that likely will happen. DACA will go away, 800,000 people will start being rounded up...ON CNN, ON FOX, ON MSNBC, on every local nightly news, crying children and families blaming the government's inability to protect people who have been here since children too small to choose to come here illegally or not. And then, we will have an election.

No, McConnell knows something must be done about DACA as does Ryan. The GOP was never going to "win" anything except border wall funding...whoops, Schumer just took that off the table too. So again, what it is you think you know...?

Funding CHIPs is a budget issue. DACA has nothing to do with the budget.

That's really where the Dems are on this. And there will be a fight because McConnell can not be trusted.

One thing this did though was remove the CHIP issue from the Dems that voted with the Republicans. That was their excuse for caving and they don't have that now.

I doubt there are enough Republicans willing to pass a long term debt ceiling increase without any Dems even IF they go nuke...which considering what could happen in 2018 could be a disaster for the GOP

It doesn't have to be. And DACA ENDS in a few weeks so if it's not rushed through between now and the next debt showdown in 17 days...it won't happen unless it's attachechd to it.

Choosing to fund health care is more than a budget issue, it's a political one. So is DACA, and yes, DACA impacts the budget.

But since you brought the GOP sized elephant in the room, why hasn't your precious party passed a budget yet? That would end all these shut down threats. So where is the budget...?
