Trump's heavy handed approach to governing, from publicly attacking/promoting specific companies to expressing hostility toward international trade, has undoubtedly created a new set of winners and losers in an economy that was already, and continues, to do well. It should come as no surprise that Americans reliant on foreign tourism are one of those losers. In fact, the Trump slump was predicted back in Feburary and March when Trump was first pushing for his Muslim travel ban, but the good news is that the Trump Slump has only resulted in a 4.4 billion dollar and 40,000 job loss. Initial studies predicted the losses could have been significantly higher.

But considering that Trump has shown no willingness to alter his hostility or stance towards international communities, there is little hope for that decline to reverse itself anytime soon.

    Those aren't tourists staying home.

    They're illegals.

Is doesn't take a genius to figure out that foreigners will stop traveling to the US when they feel they are not welcome here.

Are we tired of winning yet?

Perhaps you should consider that the actual heading of "To OR From" the US doesn't match your misstatement of "To AND From" the US... subtle but meaningful difference. Not to mention this is overall air traffic, not limited to tourism (I.E. Business travel)

If you are trying to debunk the OP, you didn't succeed, but it is a much better try than I normally see out here...A for effort..

Your chart could easily show an increase of American tourists heading OUT of the US for their vacations or business. Local and state travel boards would give you a better idea than this chart.

"No they're not" is not a proper response to, "Nailed it".

    It's incoherent babbling.

How serious do I take "nailed it" when it complete BS. The numbers are coming from state travel boards - the "illegal" component, especially coming in on airlines, is negligible. Ignorant answers deserve indifferent responses.

The op's info is partial, quarters one and two. DHS has a 6 month lag in the availability of the data so it's hard to compare 2017 data until July 2018.

Fake news NBC News don't mention actually how many foreigners stayed home.

But during Obama's last year in the White House (2016) 629,000 foreign tourist visiting America didn't go back home when their tourist visas expired.

Actually we need more winning...If I were president, I would use executive privilege to go after all the sanctuary cities. Handcuff the lawbreakers in offices that are harboring criminals here illegally just so they can harvest their votes. Drag all those asses into FEDERAL court so they can be sent to prison where they belong.

They still have to spend money - illegal or not. And those who overstayed their visas equals 1.2% of the visitors who came to the country.

Not saying it's right for them to overstay their visas - just pointing out that this thread is about number of tourists and dollars they put into the economy. If that drops, especially in heavy tourist states like Florida, it makes an impact.

I remember during the early 1970's when the Vietnam War was still going on when Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin was whining and complaining that British subject visiting Thailand tourist visas were only good for something like 30 days while Americans visiting Thailand visas were valid indefinitely as long as the war in Vietnam was still going on.

Tourism is a big industry in America but sure don't want to see America becoming a third world country that is dependent on tourism like Mexico and other shitholes in the world.

Ever been to Death Valley during July or August when it's 120 degrees in the shade ? Guess who you see there ? Mostly German tourist.

My guess the foreigners who are staying away from America are wannabe illegal aliens who were planning to not to go home after their visas expired.

I also bet since Trump has become President, American Embassies and consulates around the world are taking vetting of foreigners more seriously who are applying for a tourist visa.

...what are you talking about? Even if your simplistic view were correct, you would be saying that illegals staying home resulted in 4.4 billion fewer economic activity and 40,00p fewer jobs for US citizens.

Why would that even come remotely close to making this article fake?

And unless you have the numbers for how many overstayed their VISA in 2017, your statistic is useless. Add to that the fact that those people who overstay still contribute economically to the US.

And all of that still ignores the fact from the OP that the Trump effect is resulting in 40,000 fewer US jobs in the tourism industry and a loss of 4.4 billion in economic activity.

The US has been reduced to a joke and a highly divided nation, with the nut in the WH doing his best to drive the nation into a civil war. Anymore winning like this and the US won't exist.
