What's the problem with banning AR-15's, Bump stocks and HIGH capacity magazines. America doesn't have to ban ALL guns entirely, but there are certain weapons that are not acceptable to be owned by private citizens and they don't need to be, while still maintaining their 2nd Amendment rights. If legal Gun owners had taken their right of Gun ownership seriously, locked them up and not allowed criminals access to them over the years, we wouldn't have this problem of all these stolen guns being used to murder people. All Guns I presume at one point were purchased legally when new, but at some point they came into the hands of criminals and murderers, because their owners didn't secure them or sold them to someone who should have been checked out with an extensive background check. America's Mass murder epidemic can be laid right at the feet of those who claim to be law abiding responsible Gun owners, because they haven't done enough to keep this problem from becoming what is has.

Question: Why did you even bother including that link from 2013 when you didn't even reference it?

Go back to the DU please and thanks.

Nearly all mass murderer purchase their guns legally, and most mass shootings are committed with handguns.

No, there is a huge market of private shop manufactured and black market sold firearms, mostly pistols and revolvers - which is what is used for nearly all murders. It is an entire pocket industry in many countries. The clones are so well made it is virtually impossible for anyone to tell the difference down to the manufacturer's name and with a fake serial number. There also is a large pocket industry for black market made AK47s. All such firearms were never stolen. When private sales are added, most guns on the street used in crime were NOT stolen.

As for AR15s, I can not recall any of the few shooting with one that was a stolen firearm. But this is the OPer's claim, so OPer prove your claim.

There are probably over 1 BILLION high capacity magazines already in the USA, converting a shorter magazine to longer is no challenge, and it would be much faster and easier making black market home-shop magazines compared to the enormous manufacturing of black market firearms.

nevertheless. the reason there aren't many legal automatics in circulation is because the average American simply cannot afford them. the federal tax stamp is only $200, but the weapons themselves cost thousands, sometimes tens of thousands of dollars.

the average American can't afford them...

but drug dealers can. those evil rich people can.

And if we had properly locked up our jewels and money and cars, criminals would never have had access to them over the years. Oh, wait, we did.

Liberals should not be allowed to have an opinion until they can prove that they understand reality and human nature.

Many guns, Machine Guns are lost and stolen from Military Armories, the Police, even evidence guns that were supposed to have been destroyed.

California alone has a record number of guns lost and stolen from the Police and F.B.I.

Also, Washington D.C. Police and other Security Agents have lately been forgetting their sidearms in bathrooms.
One gun was found by a child.
    What about them ?

Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles are bearable arms and thus protected by the 2nd.
    That was easy.

Machine guns aren't illegal. They are greatly restricted, but if you have a clean criminal record, $15K+ to spend, and about a year to wait, you can buy one. In the law that greatly restricted machine guns, the technical definition of fully automatic was created. Bump stocks cannot be restricted under that law, as they don't fit the technical definition. They can be banned by a separate law. I would agree with a clean version of that law.

Also, we are currently at a fairly low murder rate historicall. It's at 5.3 per 100,000 people (2016 data). In the wildness of the 1980s/1990s cocaine wars, it was over 10 per 100,000 people. In 1960, when the FBI started systematically measuring crime rates, our murder rate was 5.1 per 100k.

The other thing is that "assault weapons" are rarely used in crimes. Per the FBI, in 2016 (including the Orlando Massacre) there were 11,004 gun murders. Of those gun murders, 374 were done with rifles (of all kinds, not just "assault weapons"). Over 7,000 were with handguns.

It's more than that. The legal supply of full autos is limited to the full autos that were on the civilian market in 1986. The weapons are expensive because of rarity and extremely limited suppy.

There are limited circumstances in which a civilian can own a machine gun manufactured after 1986.

The AR15 was manufactured for the civillian market for hunting and target shooting. It was never intended to be used as as a firearm to kill innocent people.......it does make a great home defense firearm though..

It is no longer the AR-15

The AR platform is a Multicaliber capable rifle, by simply and quickly swapping uppers, fires calibers suitable to specific tasks, from defense to long range targets and varmints making it a most versatile rifle also not requiring a shop full of expensive or bench mounted tools to repair or upgrade.

Yup, and that's why it has become popular. I'm kind of regretting not having bought one already.

    Don't fire one !
You will really fall in love with an AR !
You deserve a free basic AR Rifle.....
AR of the Month club.... Giggle.....

    I recommend;
Flat top, 18 inch barrel, cal 6.5 Grendel, fold down sights, detachable scope, stock options, fixed and collapsing, suppressor.
Bayonet mount and Bayonet, convertible flash hider to suppressor mount, to cheese off certain folks.
