Democrats are going to have a difficult time bashing Trump on this one. It will be interesting to see how they and their media manager to attack Trump and not piss off unions who are their biggest contributor. If they fail Trump could suddenly be the beneficiary of all those coveted union dues that fund political campaigns.

"Labor unions are lauding President Trump's announcement of tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, which have been highly criticized by most businesses, saying the move would help U.S. workers.

"Trump on Thursday announced tariffs of 25 percent on steel imports and 10 percent on aluminum imports."

The United Steel Workers, which has long called for such actions, said "it's about time" and mounted an extended defense of the tariffs from critics. "#Steelworkers have fought for action like this for decades. We want to work with the administration as it finalizes relief to ensure that cheaters are held accountable so we can rebuild our nation’s manufacturing sector & protect national security."

I laud Trump, too. Enough with unfair trade practices and the dumping of steel under the cost of manufacturing it by various nations. I guess we are just supposed to be silent and quit complaining here in the USA because we have it so good already?

Well Trump may be a bull in a china shop but that is exactly what is needed and has been missing in Washington for 30 years or more. Someone who is bold and unafraid to rock the boat and be heavily criticized for it. All these other democrats and republicans are nothing but crooks or cowards or interested only in the preservation of their own careers. They are a pox on the common good.

It will be difficult for the left to bash Trump on this one.

My jon boat is pretty beat up from years of hard use, some from running mild rapids with it. I'm willing to pay more, a lot more, for a new jon boat if it means new jobs for USA citizens working at Alcoa.

I'm willing to pay considerably more for the steel in a vehicle also, if the labor is by USA citizen steelmakers. Take some of the stupid foreign manufactured electronics out of the vehicle that is so expensive to repair to offset the cost, please.

Trump didn't run on cheap consumption but on American jobs and America First, US citizen labor.

To hell with the ivory tower naysayers.

    Support blue collar.

I've heard estimates of anywhere from $50.00 to $175.00 added to the cost of a new car. Not sure about your boat but anywhere in that range seems reasonable to me to save American jobs and help our overall economy.

LOL, no it isn't. Perhaps if there had been any nuance at all to this announcement, sure, but slapping a 25% tariff on any commodity from EVERY country in the world is an easy economic NO NO.

Suddenly you people are union-friendly after more than a century?
Only in the alt-right universe...Watch what our illegitimate Supreme Court
judge, Neil Gorsuch, does to unions next week.

Coming from someone who believes that the DNC hasn't just paid union workers lip service for 2 decades? I don't know how democrats managed to convince union workers that NAFTA, TPP, or the Paris accord would benefit them. Federal and States workers unions I get ... but workers who actually rely on US industry? Trump policies support workers and industry. Gorsuch, like all the justices will rule on the "union case" the same as they do any other. Based on the suits merits, the majority will reach consensus.

Cars are heavy in steel and aluminum so it's a good indication of how this will effect consumers

Unions should easily be able to make their case to workers by persuasion rather than coercion.

No but this tariff puts us on the same side on this issue and drives a wedge between unions and Democrats who will oppose everything Trump does.

So what? The unions are as corrupt as both the democrat and republican parties.

Union workers and many other rank and file Democrats will support the tariffs and the RP on this issue.
Yet another blow to DP hopes for the 2018 elections.

So what is unions are Democrats biggest campaign contribution source and if they fight Trump on this they risk seeing these funds dry up or even switch over to pro Trump candidates

It may bring to light the rift there is between working Democrats and DC Democrats that gets covered up and glossed over as a rule.

Well there were conversations last year within unions to form a 3rd party because the DP has turned its back on unions and working people. If trump begins the industrialization of america, he will win in a landslide for he will get the union vote. Look out!! But this the the fault of the DP. With this idea of tariffs, and industrializing america, to make her great again, it makes trump even more of a target, from both parties who have both sold out the non elites in this nation.

It is the people against the corrupt bipartisan ruling political class and its Fake News MSM.
The push to first rig the election and then to topple Trump has spotlighted America's repulsive political elite for all to see.

It's not about caring it's about politics which is why we are all here supposedly. I don't care about anything I post on really. I'll be checking out within a decade or so and it's up to the coming generations to make decisions that will create the world they live in. I'm here because I have points of view on politics and am interested and enjoy the debate but really at this point in life I don't have a dog in the fight. This subject interest because it will be fun to see how Democrats handle it. Trump has put them in a difficult position here. He knows they have to fight everything he does but if they fight this they run the risk of alienating their single biggest source of campaign funds. Get some popcorn, this will be a good movie!
