I don't know that McDonalds or Burger King are going to allow you to come and sit in their dinning rooms and not order food. And how the restrooms are accessed is up the individual business. It's their discretion.

 

The real issue is that the police arrested two guys for waiting for their friend to show up.

At least they didn't shoot them!

 

They market themselves as your 3rd place - not work and not home.

I've never seen a Starbucks employee demand that someone buy a product before they sit down.

This was just a lone employee who clearly had no clue about ... well ... a lot of things.

Then, the cops got involved - as if THAT was going to make it better!!

That's news to me. According to the news I read, the Manager was carrying out store policy. It is also common knowledge that businesses are not hangouts for other than paying customers. They exist to sell a product. Expecting them to provide pleasant surroundings without something in return is impolite, presumptuous and rude. So what you just said doesn't make any sense at all except in a feel good fantasy. I personally think that Starbucks is spineless. They threw their Manager under the bus for good press and the almighty dollar.

I can't say that I've got the remedy but I think it's time for a staged event. I am white ... anyone black who wants to join me in a zinger? Here's how it will work. We get a whole team of discreet photographers and cameramen. Strictly "impromptu", tee-hee. You play the part of the offended 'negro' and I play the part of the privileged white social justice warrior. We walk in together, make a big commotion about Starbucks' outlandish racist indoctrination and demand free coffee!!!!! The barista (who is equally impromptu, and who we've never seen before in our lives, ho-ho!) hands you a free coffee but denies me the freebie because he (just like me) is a self-hating "white person". Film the whole thing and get it out to YouTube as quickly as possible.

If everything works according to plan, the video will go viral and when it does cafés can begin to display a sign "No Free Coffee Here". Normal Joe will think, "Of course not" and everything will get back to normal.
