This is an idiotic statement. Social mobility is an outcome. You could argue that Americans have equality of opportunity. Of course, we know that the US apes the class ridden limeys. You either have to accept that inequality of opportunity is the norm, or you have to suggest that Americans tend to be more feckless than other nationalities.

 

Here's the best example of a mistaken label I know, "lib/commie" .

Technically that's not possible in economics. Now you should be a pluralist and dip in multiple schools of thought. However, you have to pitch your tent somewhere if you're going to generate sound economic analysis. And when you do, there's a label!
