I remember stopping in at a dinky Police Equipment store in Bensonhurst Brooklyn to replace a pair of handcuffs lost in the shuffle, and Frank had something he wanted me to see, a Remington 1100, a plain parkerized version nobody would buy, and a Ruger Mini 14 stainless Ranch Rifle, and he offered them to me at a loss, if I bought them both, the price was so low, I pulled out an AMEX and bought them straightaway.

Then the 30 round magazines were LE only, so I purchased a bunch of them, it was not very accurate, so I pulled it apart and reassembled it and accuracy improved greatly, got a great scope for it and was soon shooting ragged holes, it shot well oddly enough with SS109 MIL SPEC ammo.

I enjoyed the Mini 14 having seen them on the campy television show: "The A Team"
However, I had it working so well, I was offered stupid money for it, way more than I had paid for it, partly because I had so many OEM magazines for it, plus two Original 5 round flush magazines and a folding stock and numerous accesories.

At that time the AR-15 replaced My Mini 14 as My go to gun.
An Original vintage Colt, I had obtained in a trade.

Why did no one at an outdoor country music festival need a gun?? The only people armed were the police

But this is Australia and that is typical. Go to a large venue - no one armed. Go to the city centre - no one armed except police and security and not all of them.

Is it possible that a society can exist without guns?

We have all of the above - except the total population but we do have dense population centres which are same same to your dense population centres

You have opiates WE have 'chroming"

So, why is it that America has a higher murder rate?

I have seen the case for it, many people anywhere and everywhere are often not Armed, sometimes, in Police Headquarters, I would put up my sidearm.

Why being Armed has suddenly become an issue is beyond me.
Nobody is forced to be Armed.

Simple answer, America has more Criminals and Criminal activity than any other Nation on the Planet, and it cannot be denied, ever since the roaring 20s and the infamous Gangster bank robbers, Prohibition, then the War on Drugs, and Gangs as well as huge amounts of money involved, Guns are tools of the trade for Gangs and over 90% of those murders are Gang & Drug related.

You seem to ignore My time as a Police Officer, I spent enough time doing research into these matters, crime, as a Police Officer spends a huge segment of time at a computer terminal looking up information, especially in a special crimes unit.

It's because of liberals and segments of certain minority groups. Just about anybody else not so much.

But would it not be nice to be somewhere where you felt safe enough not to be armed?

And again you are looking at single incidents not trends or overall issues

I am not sure if some of the reason you seem to have a higher criminality rate than us or the UK is not that your police force is fractured. We have state police and Federal police but there is reasonably tight co-operation between the state police forces. No minor "sheriff" type situations. I also wonder about the sheer workload. Where you have a high death and murder rate, that in itself will increase the workload of the police so that more criminals get away with criminal behaviour, which in and of itself can encourage criminal behaviour and so there is a feedback mechanism in play

No, we have Camden, Philly, Gary, Birmingham, St.Louis etc etc etc. What is the common denominator in all of them?

Ok, when I was Constable in the small Nation of San Dorinde, I was sort of on Holiday riding my Motorcycle, and I stopped at a fried food stop, known as Kilometer 9, and as I adjusted the kick stand, I heard a scream, a man with a machete had just slashed a Woman across the shoulder, he was in his 60s, neatly dressed, a farmer, and many farmers would carry a machete in an ornate leather sheath, a permit from the Police was required, a handwritten letter.

I was shocked, and he stuck a young boy as he looked for another victim, I yelled at him to stop, and he turned around and started towards me refusing my pleas for him to drop his machete forcing me to take action sadly enough.

Later, the best explanation was, the old man was "bored" and snapped as his neighbor, an elderly lady explained, he was a widower, and retired from most everything except tending his small farm.

It was not a good and proper explanation, but the only one that made any sense, cause of death,
    extreme boredom....

More likely delirium or dementia or both - happens

Now had he had an AK 47 or similiar weapon how many shots would he have been able to fire before being disarmed?

It certainly doesn't mean getting into a car with Ted Kennedy.

Odd that you mention that in so cavalier fashion, yet if in both circumstances, had not action been taken, likely more victims would have been injured and killed.
I wonder how many had been spared because I decided to stop and have a pepsi and some fried plantains.

As many shots as a bunch of Czechoslovakian nationals we caught, they had hired some Prostitots, and one of them was an informer, and once they were asleep, she nipped off and called in, telling us to come fast, we were let in and grabbed those Men without a shot fired and sans incident, they were heavily Armed and had a vast assortment of firearms including H&K G-3 battle rifles and explosives, RPGs and much ammo and around
    $ 1 Million U.S. cash...

They confessed to planning on taking over the Country.
Drug trade and other crime, they had ties to Mexican and Columbian cartels.
